Watt, it baffles me, that I don´t think I have even read nor seen any of your posts these past 12 and 14 years respectively that we have been on RT. Clearly I have been missing out; this thread is simply great and heartwarming in so many ways, I got a huge boost from sifting thru your many wonderful pictures and almost poetic captions and narration.
I love the fact that you take a conventional track tool for repeated drives off road, and that both cars and dogs seem to be such sources of joy to your life, and they to each other.
And I really like your "circle of life" philosophy (for lack of a better word) and clear focus on enjoying the moment.
I´m a dog person myself (have a 14.5 year old, stubborn, partially deaf and fully pestering terrier mix), so it tugs at the heartstrings and makes me smile to learn about your dogs. They seem to be amazing.
Thanks a lot for a wonderful read, and please keep´em coming :)

Oh, one thing I don´t quite get:
Do you live in BOTH the US and New Zealand? And do you take your dogs with you back and forth on a plane?..or..?

Hi Phil,
Glad you like it! 911s and GT4's are pretty strong off pavement on gravel, but Porsche SUV's are hopeless for serious 4WD jeep trails - I covered that but we lost about 20 pages and 20,000 page views when we had that system crash and that part may have gone bye bye.
The truism is Dog is God spelled backward. If you saw Ribbon's continuous smile after going through hell in a cage and on the street, it's obviously true
We live both places but so far the US dogs have wonderful dog sitters here, and we make lots of dog friends, like Benson, in NZ. With the likely change in administration in the US, there is some hope the collapse in living conditions will flatten out for a time, but if not, we just move the current three to NZ [Note Bene: this in not a political comment, just a fact for us, so please no political responses]. We have started fostering Labs for IndiLabRescue.Org which saves their lives by getting them off the street, out of high kill shelters and away from families who have lost the wherewithal to support their Labs, until the rescue finds them a permanent home. We also plan to start fostering when in NZ.
And here is Frost, our latest foster, on his first hike -- young and restless Lord of the Canyon
Today I had a walk with Zillah and her dady and mommy . She had lots of fun, specially on the old patch of snow .
Not sure she realized all the mountains in the back were the alps , from the Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn .
She loved being above the fog in the beautiful sun .
She says hi to her friends from CA and NZ

that would definitely be the life. a new ride every few months, hiking, sleeping around and getting pampered. I'd take it.

As long as you're housebroken you can ride in the GT's, Nello had a ways to go - he's settling in with his his permanent family now but he's a cutester
Porker:Facing ice for the first time, hilarious
Brave Umlaut!! Most dogs would freak!!
Porkster aren't you concerned the ice will crack the pool? Or maybe you're in Ascona and it thaws quickly... Maybe it's worth it to keep Umlaut amused
Boy, does he look fast. Built for speed

He wasn't 100% confident, but with a little encouragement he took the gamble. Worst case, he'd have to swim which he does on every walk...
Not really concerned about the pool, the ice rarely gets thick over here. 2-3cm max.
Indeed he's crazy fast, I didn't know before, but apparently Vizsla's are the 2nd fastest type of dog. It's ridiculous when you play fetch with him for example.
Love your chocolate Labradors!
