    Re: Feedback from AMG owner

It's funny CF, I don't know you, but having seen your previous cars, for a limo, I would seen you more in a S55 or S65 or something like tha, not a Cayenne.
Curious to find out what you think of the Cayenne Turbo.
Where do you live? US or EU? Which country?

Secondly I am not here to defend the Roundel, so don't get personal with it W211. We are just here to have fun. The simple fact that you mentioned my name(here) and BMW over and over again shows that maybe your'e taking things to a more personal level. Take it easy man.

No hard feelings! With your screen name and comments, I would have thought you're here on a mission. Who can resist not teasing you!

BMW's new M5, when it comes out will be an interesting alternative to the W211 E55.

Even though I have a deposit for the new M5, I really find it hard to 'swallow', those headlights and the cheap interior. Let's hope with more napa leather and metallic trim, it will look more expensive and upscale.

As one can guess from my previous note, I like cars with effortless acceleration, endless torque. I worry with the M5, I'll have to rev it up to get the power which will entail a cabin that is too noisy and rough for my liking.

I always like powerful cars and if I were looking for a top end large sedan, I'll also pick the S600 over 760iL. Between the S430 and 745i, probably the BMW; and I would pick the X5 4.4 over the ML500. But now the Porsche Cayenne should be very interesting, can't wait to read on CF's feedback!

Picking up my Turbo any day now in Leipzig.
    I live in Sweden.
I like the AMG models, but I think the Cayenne is better suited for my needs.

That's the exact reason why I bought the Cayenne Turbo

Same with me. And even more: I sold my E55 to get the Cayenne Turbo (which I actually wanted to get in the first place). The E55 is great as long as it doesn't have problems and as long as it is dry outside. Traction is horrible and a SUV is much better for moving the family.
Of course the Cayenne Turbo doesn't have the same straight line performance but on rain or snow, the E55 is a catastrophy.

Hopefully they will produce a new E55 AMG 4 matic as they did in the W210 generation?

    Re: Driving report S65 AMG

How is the E55 dangerous in rain or snow? With a good set of winter tires and using the W switch, you should not have any problems driving the E55. I mean, come on, you should not do some WOT starts in the snow, but driving with care, like you should anyway in snow, you should be alright. You make it sound like you'll crash everytime you go out in snow or rain.

Here is a bit of reality about AWD (former owner), it only works if you have power on the gas. If you are freewheeling or braking, AWD doesn't do anything for you. So during 2/3's of driving, AWD isn't that helpful.

    I'm surprised by your observation.

I've owned AWD cars since the first Audi Quattro coupe. AWD behavior on icy patches and rain puddles is always worth having, in my opinion. In fact, every car I own (with the exception of a huge sedan from Crewe) has AWD.

In every maneuver I can think of for street driving, I'd rather have AWD as a safety interlock on the unexpected. The only caveat I have is during extreme limit maneuvers. If one lights up all four tires, the trajectory becomes ballistic.

Design difference between S55AMG and S65AMG?

Here is a question to CF (or anybody else who can answer it):

Are there any differences in design between S55 and S65?

I had an ancounter with a pretty fast S-Class on the Autobahn today. Up to 240km/h I could only outperform it by a narrow margin, only above 240-250 (speedometer) I was significantly quicker.

If that car was just a S55 the performance was quite impressive...

Only difference is the design of the wheels.

I wish they'd do a tad bit more to make each variant unique. But all AMG models look very very nice in my opinion. Consider me no longer a Benz "hater".

I don't know how it works in other places, but not everyone in the UK can afford a Mercedes Benz. Let alone Porsches and Ferrari's. Car maintenance costs in the UK are amongst the highest in the world.

Lets just say if you drive an AMG car in the UK, you're not exactly scraping a living...

AMG cars are very rare in Manitoba. You're lucky if you see 2 on the road in a year. The town i live in is small...about 10 000 people, and the nicest car i have ever seen is a SL55 AMG...and only once. The nicest car that you can hope to see on a regular basis is a silver WRX STi or a yellow RT-10 Viper owned by a guy in my church.
