    I wanted to backdated to 73rs,but 3.8 or 4.0

I am considering a large displacement motor for my 73, but while much stronger, the larger motors are not quite as quick to respond with the feeling of a weightless flywheel.  Still trying to decide...

These types of intakes/fuel-injection (6 throttles) help a bunch with making the large motors feel more lively - something that Singer does with their more expensive motor builds:

I used something like that http://www.clewett.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_56&products_id=399&zenid=689d51f16a63349e2a4bc2e1b2d6f9a0 The Clewwtt / Electromotice EFI with individual throttle bodies etc. Changed the stacks to full radius etc. The jump to full slide vales was just a little too much money at the time but it was a great (and very reasonable cost wise) solution. Had little problems (other than longevity) with taking the engine into the 5 figure RPM range. The 3.0 litre made 385hp but it was a real race engine.

A 3.2 Short Stroke is a nice driving engine and I've seen 3.2 super short strokes (77 Turbo case, 100mm pistons, 66mm crank) which looked really fun.

I didn't play with it too much myself, my mechanic is an ex-works team mechanic from the late 935-962 days and he loves it.

Honestly making those engines (and the 2.5ltr SS I"m using now), some of the bigger 'wins' were the little labour intensive things like polishing the inside of the case and the knife edged crank to almost a mirror. These engines get $$$ fast though when you start doing things like that...

I know it's been a bit off topic but I'm enjoying your little chat about the engines, one of the tricks my guy does is to run the crankcase in a vacuum, my engine runs at -0.25bar at full load, this is apparently worth up to 20hp on a big turbo motor Smiley

well, to put it in a right way, you need to add additional piston oilers, additional backward seals and special silicon seals and of course 4 stage pump.theses are what I'm aware of,it maybe whole other things that I don't know. and these are not cheap to do. Your guy ( if he is Reinhold ),is expensive guy.... not in my budget but I always appreciate guys who bring their cars to him, you basically pay the R&D on your car

    Thank you very much

Re: Donor vehicle for Singer Vehicle Design

    Porker:

Brilliant Crayphile! Looking forward to further impressions!

I saw the virtually complete car in California on Friday, and a huge bonus was to be able to spend an hour or so driving it on some magnificent mountain curves in and around Sun Valley. Believe the hype - this is an extraordinary car Smiley and worth every cent of its eye watering price. I'm still smiling and its 48 hours later. This had to be one of the highlights of my motoring  life to date. The throttle response ,  gear change and associated sounds are mesmerising. The steering is exquisitely sensitive and precise to all the inputs one gives it. Despite the light weight and performance the set up is incredibly forgiving. Its no old style 964 pendulum but completely planted to the ground and when the tail does wiggle its really easy to bring it back in to line with steering and throttle inputs. The steel brakes were great. The high biting point on the clutch takes a little getting use to but is easy in the end. Those of you with more  964/ 993 experience  - was this a feature of them? More reports and photos once the car goes live on the internet  - most likely in January. I will have it flown back in mid January to avoid possible hold ups over the Christmas and New Year period  - one can't be too careful with such a jewel.

Re: Donor vehicle for Singer Vehicle Design

First of all , congratulations again crayphile, you are living a dream Smiley

I´m amazed how much impressed you are with your new toy and coming from someone with your stable, I really start to believe these Singer cars are really, really special. We can feel lots of genuine emotions in your words and this is what really matters, the way the car makes us feel. Can´t waite to see the pics and more driving reports.
