E55 AMG High Speed Pic & Videos

My car is still limited to 250 kph (156 mph).
The speedo shows 256 kph, probably due to an accuracy error (Mercedes is well known for a precise 250 kph limit).
Please look at the tach on the right, only 4600 rpm at 250 kph. The engine is set to rev up to 6500 rpm.

Video 1 - Top Speed with a curve at the end (around 2.5 MB)

Video 2 - Acceleration from standstill up to around 240 kph (around 2.5 MB)

Sorry for the bad quality, I took the video one-handed with a tiny Casio Exilim S3 camera.
During acceleration from standstill to 240 kph (2nd video), the ESP was turned on and came on all the time up to around 120 kph. With ESP turned off, the acceleration would have been better but I didn't have the chance to videotape it because of excessive traffic.

Ron, what is more impressive is the acceleration time up to 240 kph. The video has a length of 22 seconds, so this means 22 seconds from 0-240 kph (150 mph). And I bet around 2 seconds less would have been possible if I would have had the chance to turn off the ESP.

0-300 kph should be possible in less than 40 seconds, making the E55 even faster than a GT2.

Next week I'll try again (hopefully with a better pictures/video quality)...

Today it was just a spontaneous action due to the fact that I was alone in the car and I had the digital camera with me.

Cool videos. Now I have to find a road to try my E55 to 155 mph!! I got my BMW 740i sport to 145 mph one day, then caught up to traffic and had to back off--was rock solid. My Carrera got to 135 mph another day, and again caught up to traffic (damn those American roads!!), and--ironically--a few minutes later, a cop had pulled over a M3, so best I had to slow down...

I guess something is messed up with your video codecs on your computer. I'm using Windows XP Pro with the latest Media Player 9. I watched the video on several computers and no problem at all.

Another video with 300 kph top speed is planned, including pictures. Just have to find the right time for doing it, this is much more difficult.

Does somebody else have a problem viewing the video?
Just curious.

it's probably me, I own a dozen Macs. I do have Windows XP in Vitrual PC which may work. I'll give it a try. The one video played perfectly though!!

Fanch, I have a G4 as well. Found the problem - I was using Safari, Apples browser which I quite like. I visited the site with Internet Explorer and can now see the videos!! Hopefully Apple will continue to make their browser more and more compatible as time passes (and engines get larger and more powerful).

Safari was in version Beta until a few days ago, you can now DL the proper safari browser on Apple website or else.
It worked fine with my safari browser.

Great videos and your indepth impressions from the earlier posts are appreciated. My new E55 should arrive in a couple of weeks and now you have me really pumped. If only I had roads without the ever present threat of state troopers nailing me to run the thing up to the speed limiter as often as you get to.

I have one question for you. Have you asked the people at AMG why the car is under-tired? My 1999 E55 has 275s on the rear and the much heavier and more powerful new one comes with wimpier 265s. I assumed they would go the other direction. I can't imagine the minor improvement in aerodynamics means as much as improved traction would with 285s. Any thoughts?

Just a guess: maybe they want to sell the upcoming AMG 19'' Style IV wheels?

I talked to them a lot about the E55, especially why there aren't more sporty options available like for the SL55 (Performance Package).
The answer didn't surprise me: the E55 is a limousine.
However I had the impression that even AMG was surprised with the success of the E55 even among younger people or sports car enthusiasts. So there seems to be a high probability of a E55 Performance Package for next year. Hooray.
