    German SPORT AUTO just tested the new Mercedes CLK 55 AMG

    Comparison vs the BMW M3 Coupe (in brackets).

    0-100 kph: 5,3 sec. ( 5,2 sec.)
    0-160 kph: 11,6 sec. (11,6 sec.)
    0-200 kph: 18,7 sec. (18,6 sec.)

    Hockenheim Kleiner Kurs: 1 min. 18,6 sec. (1 min. 17,6 sec.)
    Slalom (18 m): 64,3 km/h (67,8 km/h)

    Conclusion: nice V8 sound, good automatic transmission comfort but the M3 offers at least the same performance for less money.

    How can it be possible the CLK 55 be 4sec slower to reach 200Kph than the Classe E AMG. Auto Motor und Sport tested the new Classe E AMG with 475Hp and times were

    0-100Kph 4,6sec
    0-200Kph 14,6sec

    Seems very strange the CLK 55 AMG being so much slower with the same engine.

    The new classe S AMG has made also bellow 15sec to 200Kph, so something must be wrong here.

    The CLK 55 has not the same engine.
    It has only 354 HP as far as I know.
    They wan't to make a limited edition with the new AMG engine, wich will have 500 HP, as in the S and CL 55.

    Avoe and fanch are right...the CLK 55 does not have the supercharged V8 of the SL55, S55 and E55 AMG.

    And I have to correct Avoe: AMG already dismissed all rumors that they plan a special edition of the CLK 55 with the supercharged V8.

    But if you guys are interested in AMG:
    a few days (or weeks ...I won't give details because I don't want to put some people into trouble) ago, I met several Mercedes engineers on a testdrive on the Autobahn. We talked about 10 minutes at a parking lot and they've been very nice to me because I was in my ML55 AMG.
    To prove that I don't tell stories: the "convoy" of mules included a Maybach (surprisingly camouflaged) with license plate from RT-, a new E-class stationwagon (camouflaged too) and a CL 600 with the new 500 HP V12.
    Well, first at all they told me that AMG plans a AMG version of the V12 engine with 500 HP. Nice suprise.
    The other interesting thing: I told them that I own a 996 Turbo and one of these guys (older one) told me that Porsche has to dress warm in the next few years because AMG plans a few "extreme" cars to cope with ALL available Porsche models.

    Excessive weight has been a problem but AMG already is integrated into new model development to make sure that the base of new AMG models will be good.

    "We have the knowledge, we have the money and we have the best engineers, why shouldn't we be able to build better sportscars than Porsche" one younger guy told me. He seemed very proud of his job.

    I also asked about a new ML 55 AMG with the supercharged V8 but they all just had a big grin on their face and one of them said "well, the Cayenne is nice but Mercedes won't allow Porsche to claim the fastest SUV on earth. We'll surely get this title back, it is just a matter of time".

    Good news for AMG lovers.
    But like you always said.
    The new AMG cars will problably be faster on a straight line but won't handle as good as Porsche cars.
    Plus a sports car with auto box is really sh....
    The Porsche engineers have their little secrets too
