    c4s or c4s?

    P-guys, i am starting to have second thoughts. I have on order a 997 4s (see spec below). I currently own a 996 4s (which Ive enjoyed a lot). I am wondering whether to take the 997 4s (and sell the 996 4s) OR hold on to my 996 4s and later upgrade to a turbo in a 12-18 months time. What do you guys think?

    Sell the 996, get the 997, with the X-51 you may decide you don't want the extra hp at the end of the day (who am I kidding?). From what I've read, and heard, the 997 C4S is quite an improvement over the 996 iteration. You could always sell/trade your 997 for the TT once it comes in, and in the meantime, you'll be having a BLAST in your X-51 equipped C4S!

    BTW, I LOVE your spec. Have you thought about throwing the PCCBs on there (is it too late?)? That would really be spectacular.

    PS: Let us know what you decide. I wouldn't mind taking your 996 off your hands if the timing is right (for me). And then take the 997 off your hands when you pick up the TT. I guess my advice is biased towards my needs, oops.

    Since your in Nor Cal, be careful of the flood warnings just issued (even in SF!!!) Stay dry!

    I agree, go for the PCCB if you can. Also I would sell the 996 unless you have time to drive it. Use the money from the sale of the 996 to pay for the PCCB on your 997.

    Personally, I would keep the 996 C4S and wait for the Turbo.
    But if the Turbo is not a real option (too much money, too aggressive look, etc.), go for the 997 C4S Powerkit (X51), this would be a good choice.

    The 997 Turbo will be the hell of a car, so maybe you want to wait, even if it is going to be tough.
    The 997 Turbo is expected around late summer in the US, a "broader availability" of cars should happen around mid 2007 (it is pretty difficult to get a 997 Turbo in the first couple of months after official introduction).

    chef_jmr, RC and bstew -- thanks for the thoughts. I am really torn. The part of me that loves technology, performance, etc is telling me to go ahead with the 9974s X-51 and enjoy it now. Having said that i am drawn to my 996 4s aesthetically -- I just think its a more beautiful, and in some ways more modern looking car than the rather plain 997 4s.
    (BTW: chef_jmr, i am happy to talk to you about my 9964s, its an 03 with 25k on it. and oh its too late to add the PCCBs to the spec)

    As for the turbo, no offense but i am still a little partial to normaly aspirated engines, and aesthetically it looks a little fussy to me, besides I am not sure i would ever make full use of the 450-500hp it will have. So chances are which ever c4s i go with i'll likely end up keeping that for a long time.

    have any of you faced a similar decision.

    thanks guys. I think i have decided I will keep my order. But unfortunately it is too late to get the PCCBs (I checked again today).

    No worries, Munya. The S (and normal) brakes are magnificent. My reasons for "speccing" the C4S with the PCCBs are: reduced unsprung weight, great for track work, no brake dust, and, at over $115,000, what's another nine grand going to hurt?**

    I think you are going to enjoy your new C4S and when the time comes, make the decision whether to trade "up" to the TT. By that time, I'll just take your 997 off your hands.
