    high oil pressure

    while driving just now my oil pressure started climbing to about 5 and moving very rapidly (with the revs).

    i did an oil check and it said it's low.

    has anybody else seen this occur with low oil?

    just want to make sure that merely topping it off will solve the prob

    to my knowledge ,oil pressure should hit the max with the revs ,the opposite would be wrong .

    If it's within warranty, why not just take it to your dealer... Or call Porsche Assistance for advice...it's an expensive car, why take chances?

    As long as that thing moves up, everything should be fine. And of course check your oil level (do NOT overfill!!!) and the oil temperature.

    When was your car built? My service advisor called to have the following work done:

    Recall W542- Check steering wheel air bag for possible replacement
    Recall W556- Front hood latch replacement
    Recall W530- Has something to do with oil pressure is my understanding
    Recall W533- Door harness replacement?
    Recall W557- Looks like a shift cable

    My car was built in September '04.

    oils pressure is always at max when you rev over 4k. whne the car is cold, the pressure is kept high on purpose, once warm and you are ideling, it should go back to 3 or so. the oild level doesn't seem to change that much as long are you within the min and max bounds of the oild level.

    do not overfill!

    Ossi is right. Just one clarification though. The oil pressure is high when cold not "on purpose", but because the oil is thicker when cold and this naturally causes the high oil pressure.

    Spot on----

    My experience (and GT-purely Porsche) is that it is best to top-up only when it is consistently down 2 divisions.

    If down only one division, a series of readings (car level, really cold engine, warm engine, hot engine just ready to check) can show it to be full, or down one, with almost equal probability.Then it is easy to very modestly overfill the engine ------ the manual should warn us of that --- or the indicator should be re-designed!

    Thanks guys. All great information. I figured it was just one of those gauages that never moved...whereas mine is moving quite a bit.

    I'll put in some oil because it reads a little low.
