    996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

    Hi,
    I recently bought a 996 Carrera2 Coupe (MY2002) with the 345 hp X51 Powerkit.

What are the performance figures: top speed and 0-100 km/h (0-62mph)?

Here is the information I've got for the 996 Carrera2 Coupe
    996 (MY 1998-2001): 280 km/h - 5.2 s
    996 (MY 2002-2004): 285 km/h - 5.0 s
    996 (MY 2002-2004) X51: 290 km/h - ? s

    Thanks in advance,

    fantasma

Wow you're lucky, I'm at the office right now, and have a couple of old car magazines here. One of them has X51 996Turbo 450Hp and X51 996 Carrera 345Hp test.

    996 Carrera X51 345Hp
    0-100Kph 4,9Sec
    0-160Kph 10,5
    0-1000 Mts 23,5 Sec

Those figures are in pair with thw new 997 Carrera S

    996 Carrera 320Hp
    0-100 Kph 5,2 Sec
    0-160 Kph 11,2 Sec
    0-1000 Mts 24,1 Sec

He's referring to the Carrera powerkit, called the X51.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

Does anyone have #'s to allow a comparison of the 996 X51 with base 997 and 997S?

    Just curious.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

    Well,

curiously all cars you mentioned are pretty close in acc. up to 200 kph.

Beyond that the 997 S is clearly ahead, closer to the 996 Turbo than to the two other N/A cars. Judging by the engine graphs the difference of the X51 to the std. 996 engine should be in the upper rev. range. This won't be too obvious in daily driving but once you push it, resulting in acc. numbers only a couple of tenth better than the std. car.

    don't think so.

Behond 200Kph you need power,996 X51 has 10Hp less than the 997 S while 996 Turbo has 65Hp more than 997S. I'm sure 996 X51 would be much closer to the S, than S to the Turbo.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

    J.,

I have driven the 997S and the power beyond 5000 rpm is clearly beyond the std. 997. If you watch that video of the Italian guy racing the 997 against GT3 and Turbo it becomes pretty obvious that it is not that far behind.

I am a bit surprised regarding the top speed numbers of the 997 S because it seems to be way behind the turbo.

Anyways, between 200 kph up to almost 300 kph the car is fabulous!

cars running on that video are far from being at +200Kph, anyway 16,1Sec to 200Kph is already an amazing accelaration time for the 997S.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

    Zoltan,

the video is somewhere here on the forum. It shows Sergini (?) driving his 997S with 20mm suspension on the track in Magione against a 996 GT3 and 996 Turbo.

The track is pretty short but the fact that the 997 doesn't loose on the Turbo below 200 kph, and gearing and aerodynamics come in favour for the 997 at higher speeds makes me believe that the difference is rather small. I don't want to judge any further since I don't have experienced that by myself.

Other members stated that the difference between the std. 997 and the "S"-model is mainly beyond 200 kph!

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

searching for an hour for this video now without success. I must have missed it on 1st pass.

Anyone know where it is ?

    Here it is, dude!

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=48611&an=0&page=13#48611

In fact the back straight is long enough for the fifth gear, so it should be close to 220 kph at the end. Not sure if the TT was automatic?

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

I have read on other porsche forum that power figures of 3.6 x51 are over 360 hp and the driving feeling is pretty torquier, powerful and noticeablely faster than standard.

    great option.

    greetings

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

I am not of the same opinion: my 996 4s x51 is not particulary poxerful compared with a standard 996 3,6.
I hope my next one 997 4s x51, coming soon, is better....

It takes real horsepower to get higher top speeds!

hi, maybe that is due to the extra weight, viscous differential and wider wheels.
there are a lot of old posts here in rennteam regarding x51 and according to them the feeling of it seems to be more powerful than standard 3.6, even i've read the real life performance is similar to gt3, mkI i'm supossed.
    i'm interested in this option:
how many 3.6 narrow body were produced?is it difficult to find in order to demand in second hand market?wanted option?priced?
any feedback will be apreciated, thanks.
    greets and happy new year.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

The acceleration between my X51 3.6 to a 3.4 996 is starlting. Getting out of my car and into the 3.4 and driving the same track 1 miniute later (at Pocono yesterday), I felt like I went from a race car to a VW bug. First and second lug in the 3.4 compared to the 3.6 X51 and with my cup gearing in 3-6 its not even worth talking about. I have dyno'd the car and 345 seems about right for HP, but it does show about +10 lb-ft more torque than stock.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

hi testdrv321, your experience is interesting but foreseeable, between standard 3.4 and 3.6 powerkit should be a very huge difference, thanks for corroborate it.
what about a 3.4 powerkit and standard 3.6?
it would be interesting chek the difference on the same displacement because it was a 10000 $ option.
I would like purchase a used powerkit unit over any other comfort option but there is not a popular option here and it's difficult find one.

    greets from spain

fyi the 0-60 for the carrera s is more like 3.9 not 4.9.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

I've clocked off 3.8 (GTech) on R compound tires.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

Thats d@mn fast! How accurate is gtech and what was your 1/4 mile and trap speed on that run?

On track or simply driving at very high rpm, there's no doubt that the X51 is a bit faster than the normal 3.6

But during the normal use x51 I'm afraid is slower than the standard 996: I've recently seen on a Porsche leaflet the power and torque diagrams overlapping and, believe me, the extras are all concentrated in the 6.000-7.000 rpm range.

Re: 996 X51 Powerkit performance figures?

The X51 motor really comes on in the last 1000 RPMs. A whole new cam profile comes into play. The exhaust note takes on a much more mechnical sound, and it pulls hard to the redline. That is the seat-of-the-pants analysis.

Interestingly enough, there are 2 cam "switch points". There is a very significant switchover at 3200 RPM as well. I can feel my car practically lurch as the RPMs cross that threshhold.
