    Some Ferrari News

Just had an email from my friend who works for Ferrari France, here are some interesting news:
He said the new Modena is not due for two years mostly because the Spider and the Stradale are doing very well.
All Stradale are sold for 2004.
Six months ago, in France, the waiting list for a 360 was 18 months, it is now 3 to 5 months! and the value of used 360 has dropped considerably, they are over 150 used 360s for sale at official dealers throughout Europe.
Now the big news, in terms of management, Ferrari is doing like Porsche a few years ago, they are buying the biggest Ferrari dealers in each country, including the UK, that means the Maranello Sales will soon belong to Ferrari spa, which could be a good thing in terms of costumer services or better delivery mangement I guess.
    Fanch.

Similar to that I heard. New model will be presented not before autumn next year (Paris motor show or later) and delivery should be due not before spring 2005.

    Re: Some Ferrari News

Yep he confirmed to me again, no new modena for 2 years.
RC, are you sure about your info regarding an imminent replacement for the Modena?
He also said he's not a big fan of the new 612 design but the lucky bastard is going to a VIP presentation in two weeks!
    Hopefully will take some pics.
Car won't be on sale for a another few months.
    Fanch.

No matter if it takes 1 1/2 or 2 years for the new (better: redesigned) Modena, its competitors will give the current Modena a really hard time at the end of his life (especially thinking of the Gallardo...)

    Re: Some Ferrari News

    I don't agree that much.

There's still a huge differnce between a real, grown culture like Ferrari has and Porsche still has quiet a lot and a company like the current version of Lamborghini that sells cars which do have the Audi logo on their ignition keys, which do have their interiour implements and that names it's anniversary modell "40 Jahre Lamborghini".

And as RC wrote a few days ago the Gallardo isn't selling that well.

    best whishes to all!

    well spoken!

and when tiff needell (who's judgement i trust) says that even an ordinary 360 is more fun than a gallardo... well...
    (see this thread http://www.rennteam.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=16755&page=&view=&sb=5&o= )

the 360 is all about emotion. the gallardo might be a nice peace of car engineering, but it's sober, it's clinical, it's no lamborghini.

IMO audi passed up an oppertunity with the gallardo.

a greater peril for the aging modena could be the ford GT... especially in the US. the press does love it.

but to be honest, whatever competitor might come... i have no fear for ferrari sales.

There may be a honeymoon period, but I don't see the Ford GT stealing a lot of sales from Ferrari. F-cars have never been about performance-for-dollar equations, they are about intense driver involvement and the sheer joy of owning a * FERRARI * - something I don't see in the Ford experience.

    Re: Some Ferrari News

The whole 360 successor story is still a big secret (well, not anymore I guess ) because it could hurt current sales.
The source we have should be pretty accurate but I know it is difficult to believe it because the V10 engine doesn't come and we announced it a while ago.
Well, time will tell but right now, it seems the 360 successor isn't far away. One of the next car shows should prove that we're right...or not. I can't say more because we'd unveil our source and I can say only one thing: you'd be amazed if you knew who this source is.

    Re: Some Ferrari News

    RC,
I think I know who the source is. The only German / Italian connection that I can think of is: Michael Schumacher

    Am I right?

Ron, people could actually think you're right because you're a Rennteam.com Moderator too.
But to downplay your post: the Ferrari-Germany connection is much wider than you think.

I absolutely agree with you both. I don't think either, that the Gallardo is at threat to Ferrari sales. All I wanted to say is, that the performance figures of the Gallardo are stunning and today all is about sheer performance. I don't really like the car, especially for its Audiish interior and I also dislike its looks from the outside, viewed from behind (the front is the best).
But if we can trust auto motor und sport, the Gallardo is 1.7 sec quicker to 200 km/h than the Challenge Stradale and that is something Ferrari should think about. Yes, I know, compared on the track the CS most probably will pulverize the Gallardo, but not everyone is taking his baby to to track

So please tell me all the dates of all the car shows in the near future!

    RC, I just can't wait !!!

    Re: Some Ferrari News

As I already mentioned in other posts having driven the Gallardo on the street and on the track I find it a majouur disappointment, especially in the feedback and emotion areas.
Does this mean it won't sell well or that it isn't a threat for Ferrari, I don't know, I think that 80-90% of the target buyers of these kind of cars find other attributes more important, like styling or glamour factor.Time will tell...

The next majour car shows are going to be Detroit and Geneva if my memory is correct.I guess we'll see then.
Given that historically Ferrari replaces the 8 cyl. models every 5 years the timing is correct. And given that historically RC rarely fails when giving this type of info my guess is that we'll see the new 8 cyl. model shortly...

    Too much honor I guess.

Something funny: last time I talked to a Porsche employee, we talked about many things, god and the world and of course cars but nothing special. Suddenly I just asked (out of the blue ): when does the new Cayenne Turbo Powerkit show up? He wanted to answer but his face changed immediately from a relaxed to a pretty annoyed looking one and his short answer was I don't know of anything. I gave him a smile and he looked pretty stressed, mentioning that next time he has to be careful with me.
