Kev..I bought a Porter Cable orbiter from Griot's but have always been afraid to use it for fear of scratching the car.
Could you give us amateurs a step by step lesson as to how you put the wax on then take it off with the orbiter.. I have the tools and the Best Of Show wax, but no knowledge. Thank you VM and your car looks abolutely first class.
I polish a 2'x 2' area at a time.
The most important thing is that you don't do this in direct sun light, that's why I did it in my garage.
Second important is that I clay the car surface before polishing. Then, just before I polish, I use the quick shine spray and wipe the surface down.
Lastly, always start and stop the machine with the applicator foam pad on the surface, never off of it.
1. Put the polish on the applicator foam in circle patterns.
2. W/ the machine turned off, dab the polish across the surface you are polishing.
3. Start at speed 2 (second to the slowest, which is 1). use this speed to spread the polish across the 2' x 2' surface. Move like this:
4. After the polish is spread evenly, move the speed up to 5. HOLD ON TIGHT. Repeat the pattern above until you can see small specks of the polish being flung into the surrounding areas, or you can just feel the polish. Stop right before the polish dries.
5. Wipe clean w/ speedshine again. Check for the swirls. Repeat steps 1 to 5 as needed unti lthe swirls completely disappear.
Wax is about the same ... except:
1. When waxing the car at speed 5 (step 4 above), when the wax dries, just leave it on the pain and go watch TV or something. Wait 45-50 minutes.
2. After 45-50 minutes, come back and you can DIRECTLY put another coat of wax on top. You do not need to remove the original excessive wax w/ quick shine at all.
3. Repeat until you have the number of coat you want. I think anything above 5 coats is just sort've wasting wax.
4. When you are satisfied w/ the number of coats. Wipe the surface down w/ quick shine, and enjoy.
Last advise: If you don't feel comfortable w/ this, do it on a small area first, maybe the rear bumpers. Hope this was helpful.
