    UK Question - Financing your pride and joy

    OK guys, i'm just about to order and am paying for approx. 50% of the car as cash, and looking for finance options on the rest.

    I really like the Porsche Preferences approach (Balanced Payments)...but am keen to know how others have approached it...and cutting to the chase, what was the best option in terms of interest (APR) you got, either through porsche or another finance provider. Understand if you don't want to get too specific on the board, if not would appreciate you PM'ing me.

    I did similar to yourself. Got quotes from OPC and A.N.Other finance company for a balanced payments type deal, and played them against each other. Eventually got OPC down to a reasonable rate - I think it was 2.5% over base rate, but I can't remember precisely. I reckon a better haggler could have got them down more.

    I normally get 2.5% flat rate on a straight forward 2 yr HP through Black Horse Finance via the Porsche Dealer, which is amazingly cheap.

    I don't opt for finance - I prefer to pay in full right on the day - I think it's less hassle.

    I did my deal 6 months ago and got 1.75% above FHBR, he told me they wouldn't make any profit on the deal, but they are looking after me as I am a good customer :-)

    Meaning they would make all the money back when I part ex my next car...

    I put in the minimum 10% deposit on the rational that my money is better invested in shares than a car, but it all depends on your view on risk.

    BMW finance gave me 1.5% above base.

    If you have an offset mortgage with first direct, you can add this onto your mortgage outstandings at 1% over the base rate.

    They did indeed and it was far cheaper than Porsche could do.

    Ash,

    just done a deal with my opc on a balanced payments scheme - 20%deposit and 1.5%over base rate. 10mins to choose the car and 10 mins to haggle over the finance!
