2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

I am so annoyed that the car I am trading in (on a ballon payment with porsche) is on negetive equity so I have to pay them money on the final payment.
I am quite close to canceling the new car, I feel like I have had been had for some reason. I hadnt budgeted for this shirtfall and it makes me value the whole experience of getting the new car as incredibly a waste of money. The shortfall is not a mountain but I am considering if its worth being taken advantage of.

The last time i part ex my old porshce with them i felt they didnt give me a good deal and this time i think they are really trying to make some money of me (again!).

Sorry for the rant but I have been very excited about getting my first 911 and now I am close to getting a golf.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

What are you trading and what is your balloon figure............

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

    Agree with you.
Cancel your 911 and get a Golf.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

The car is a boxster s 2002 model (facelift) with good options on it (plus 19500 miles on clock). The ballon is Pounds23500 and I have been offered Pounds19000.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

That's quite a high balloon........my 2003 S was 47k new and we had an 18000 balloon and only put down 10pc deposit......

Try to sell it privately as the car is appealing with high spec and low miles.........

OPC's are notoriously hard come trade in time......

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

    Thanks for the advice!

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

I was shafted on my Boxster trade in also - and you're right, it does kind of sour the experience. For any other members out there who are trading up to a 911 (or thinking about it), it is worthwhile knowing that Porsche UK will rip you off on the trade in. You can pretty much rely on it.

The excuse that my dealer gave me was that the car wasn't appropriate for them to resell under the "approved user car" banner because of it's condition (paint, tyres, brakes, "oil leakage"). Their assertion was that they would have to spend alot of money bringing the vehicle up to spec in order to put in the showroom, so instead they would just send it to auction.

In the end I accepted their price for many reasons, not least of which was that I would have been left with the old car over the Christmas/january period (when the private sale market is traditionally quiet). The other alternative you have is to contact some of the independent Porsche specialists who might be in need of stock or already have a potential buyer interested in your spec.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

I have seen the same car as I am selling (not as well specced) on the porshce used car website for Pounds29995. It makes me angry that they want to make Pounds10000 profit of my back as well as the new Pounds64000 car I am getting. I have used this garage now for 7 years and with the new one obviously carry on up to 10 years of business with them.
It doesnt seem to carry much weight with them.

I am making inquiries about selling to other companies etc.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

You are being fleeced. Sell privately or to someone else and make sure you let the OPC know what a bunch of tossers you think they are.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

OPC are very bad at taking your old car back.
My suggestion is to do what I've done, sell you old car to a private independant dealer.
Even better would be to sell it to a potential buyer but that involves testdrives etc., a pain.

Exactly JJ , and we are on the same frequency . And the fact remains its only a frigging car and if I dont see fair before non-refundable stage I tell them to shuv it . If you stand to loose money in the way of 10% of the total list really screw your loaf and think how you can make them grind . Also Londondude you are right , Pounds10,000 profit on your part-ex , sure there here to run a fruitful business but they do take the [censored] and it does make it very souring..

Good Luck and if you do cancel you are more than welcome to the " I Didn't Do It " club ..

    throt..

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

I don't think this is exclusive to OPC 's only, Mercedes offered even less for my '01 Boxster when I got a quote for trade in. I ended up trading my Box at OPC as I did not want hassle of strangers test driving my car. Did not get discount on 997s but got a better "deal" from them on trade in.Still a fair hit (ouch).

    Two things to note here:
    1) The approved used business at your OPC isn't necessarily that closely integrated with the new car sales business. The new car guys want their profit from you, and so do the used car guys. I don't think they're even allowed to consider the deal as a whole under the terms of their franchise from Porsche.
    2) Don't forget on your comparison you're crossing the bid offer spread twice. The price they're showing you is their bid. The price on the website is their offer. They won't necessarily sell at Pounds29,995, but you can be pretty sure they won't improve their Pounds19,000 bid!!

My dealer is Porsche East London. I do have to say that the service was much better before when they were Lancaster Bow. Sure - the new "branded" facility is much more modern than the old one, but the sales guys have less freedom. The guy who sold me my old Boxster actually left after the re-branding and went to an independent, allegedly because of the changes in the way the dealership worked once Porsche got more closely involved.

On the subject of the new facility however - shame it'll have to be demolished to make way for the 2012 Olympics!!

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

I agree it isnt nice when they make a low offer, same happened to me.. i also pointed out the price of a similar car on their website was a lot higher, but i think it must be a different condition car as i'm fairly sure they dont look to add on 10k. You also have to take into account they are adding a service/warranty and some other work to car the car up to the standard they want to sell it for.

You are free to try and sell it privately, but the chances are you will find the same as I did (and others here back when i posted about it), you wont get much interest - Not enough people want to part with over 20k on a Porsche on a private sale, they are happy to pay more and get it from a dealer.

It may be hard to take, but the fact is cars depreciate, in the UK the Boxster depreciates a lot less than most cars but that doesnt mean you arent going to lose thousands owning one

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

This problem wouldnt have happened if they had given me a lower ballon at the begining. 55% was obvously too high and they were the ones that picked that figure. I know that the rest of the figures would change with a differnet balloon but at least i would have known before going ahead with the deal.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

Thank your lucky stars you have a Porsche to trade in or sell. I traded in an 18 month old Lexus SC430, with 14,000 miles on it, for my 997S. I'd bought it new for Pounds53K and dropped Pounds20K for the privilege of returning to Porsche.

Couldn't sell it privately and tried several Lexus dealers without success. A big 'hit' but I'm glad to be back in the P club!!

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

It will be no different for the 997 - OPC offered a drop of 14K in 12months, so sold it in the Sunday Times for a drop of only 6K..as you say really soured the experience and so I canceled the 997C4S. But then you see one go past...and you want one again - there is simply nothing like a porsche. Oh well back to the dealership.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

In USA we have most people leasing their cars instead of balloon payments. The advantage of this is if the lease is 55% we do not have to buy it at terms end. Most people just turn the car back to the leasing company and they worry about getting rid of the car.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

Try to sell your car and go in with cash.

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

Gents: Unless you sell privately which has it's own headaches, the dealers will not offer you what the car is worth. Afterall they are in business to make tons of money. Bottom line cars depreciate the minute you drive them off the lot. They are not an investment. No matter what kind of condition your car is in, the dealer will find an excuse. Either the condition is not perfect, the color is not in demand or there is no market for that car. Sad but true.

    Is this a PCP deal?

Am I missing something here? You say you have a balloon payment to make, but aren't there other options available here? I thought with this kind of thing you can either pay the final payment and the car is yours, hand the car back with no payment and walk away, or use the difference in value of the car compared to the balloon payment (assuming the car is worth more which in this case it is not) as a deposit on a new car?

It seems that they are trying to fleece you. I think I'd be tempted to pay for the car then think of what to do with it. If you want another Porsche, just go elsewhere. I presume you'll be in for another wait by doing that though. Or, if you're not so bothered, just buy a Golf.

Re: Is this a PCP deal?

Londondude - if you are thinking of selling to an independant try Mark at http://www.stirlings.co.uk/index.htm. I bought an M3 through a BMW dealer who ended up trading my Boxster to him. I can't say the price was anything to write home about but I had a few conversations with him afterwards and would say he was a good independant. The problem you (we!) have is that there are so many Porsches about nowdays, particularly Boxsters, 996's and increasingly so 997's, they just aren't as "special" as they once were. Anyway, worth a try and good luck.

Oh, just to add to your confusion, the 997 is worth the money you will be paying/losing/burning

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

I have a P on the options balloon payment program....I have the option of returning the car at the very end of the term....

Re: 2 weeks to 997 delivery and I think I might cancel it.

I wish I could just walk away but I have an outstanding balance that has to be settled and the cars value is below this. Other pcp (the next one I am taking) if the cars value is below the ballon then you just walk away.

Is there something i am missing then?
