this is my new order for 2006 997s. your comments please

    1- x51 power kit
    2- aero kit
    3- -20mm sport suspention
    4- carrera sports wheels (evo)
    5- thicher steering wheel
    6- short shifter
    7- sports seats
8- leather gear nub and hand break
9- seal grey / sands beige

Re: what do you think of this

I think this is one sweet car. X51 power kit!!!!

Re: what do you think of this

Hmm why not electric seats and heated seats, PCM and 6-CD changer? You might as well add creature comfort I think.

Re: what do you think of this

    lighter weight

Re: what do you think of this

Re: what do you think of this

I hope it will look like this
    1

Re: what do you think of this

    needs more work, IMHO

You shhhhhhure about the aero kit? What's your age group? are you tracking the car everyweek?

You forgot TPMS, Sport C., adaptive seats since it seems you will be tracking with aerokit, X51, S.Shifter, etc.

Definitely get heated seats for the girls in your life.

Re: what do you think of this

If you dont want a tan steering wheel that shows every little mark or a tan dashboard top that puts reflections onto the windshield, look at the optional black and sand interior. You can even get black carpeting if you want to.

Delete the tiny sunroof. You save 40lbs of motor, emergency manual mechanism and it also lowers the center of gravity.

Maybe get the no charge black dial faces. IMHO They look more serious and sportier.

Forget adaptive sports seats. Too much added weight for too
little real benefit. The regular sport seats are fine.

Definitely add TPMS and heated seats. You will kick yourself later for not getting them if you dont.

    Good luck with it!

Re: what do you think of this

I was told not to add TPMS it will give you headache ,my dealer's advice

Re: what do you think of this

OH, BTW, good wheel choice. They look really good in person. Pictures don't do them justice.

I have A.S.Seats. And I tend to agree. It's really strange though. The benefit is GT related for the extra comfort features and yet the most comfortable, conveeeenient, and therefore heavy, seats are also designed for track use??!! (because of the deep and adjustable bolsters).

They're definitely nicer, but probably not hugely more confortable than standard. I'd get them if you're over, say, 35 and starting to lose youthful fitness where sitting on a bench all day would still be comfortable for you. You get a few more adjustments and ther're electric (easy to mess with).

Re: what do you think of this

Lose the aerokit and get PCCB instead.

    A) the aerokit looks bad (clearly, this is a matter of taste, but you asked us what we think)

    B) it adds nothing meaningful to performance

    C) if resale is an issue, you'll probably get more bang from your buck for PCCB vs aerokit (though you usually get fleeced with options when it comes to resale anyways).

I'd also not get those wheels. They are wider at the rear and will likely contribute to understeer, plus, they undoubtedly weigh more than Carrera S or Carrera Classic wheels. IMO, they are likely to not enhance performance, and probably reduce it slightly. Wider rears are not what the C2S needs, since it's traction is already spectacular, and it already understeers.

As for the creature comforts that have been recommended - you just have to decide what the purpose of this car is. So far, it looks like you're after performance, so to hell with the creature comforts I'd say! Getting rid of the sunroof is a GREAT idea! In fact, that car, minus the sunroof, aerokit and Sport Wheels, but with PCCB's is my ultimate 997! Tell Porsche that there are customers out there who want to see 911's built for performance, without heavy adaptive sport seats that are just a money grabber, a "Blows" high end stereo, navigation, parking assistance, a coffee maker, and a DVD player.

As for Sport Chrono, I think good arguements can be made either way, but I'd probably get it.

Finally, from what I've been reading lately, the X51 may not add that much to performance, and is probably most exciting b/c of the sport exhaust, which just sounds spectacular. To save some bucks, you might conisder losing the X51 and just getting the sports exhaust. For the money, X51 is probably the least worthwhile option. It does NOT equate the 997 to a 996GT3, even if the hp #'s are similar.

Re: what do you think of this

    how about the GT3???

Re: what do you think of this

    I likey a lot!

I agree with Jim on the two tone interior!
How about PCCB? I much prefer the lighter dials. Also, get the heated seats- a must have, IMO.

Re: what do you think of this

thanks a lot guys for your comments

    1-aerokit for stability
2-PCCB is no good for track use , I think . I will retrofit 8 pistons caliber breacks latter on
3-GT3 is more aggressive than I need
4-I did not like the two tone interior
    5-Wheels !!!! I I

you are right but it will be close to it and better than the normal 997s. Keep in mind that the torque will be about %12 higher than the GT3 . I have now the sports exhaust on my 2005 997s ,which will be part of the x51, and I like it but I need also power.

Re: what do you think of this

self dimming mirrors and don't waste your money on the X51

You're falling for and re-enforcing the stick it up our kisters sales ploy that Porsche has taken on the over priced options that should be part of the car to begin with

Re: what do you think of this

a dealer in switzerland says that the X51 will be standard on all 997s very soon

Re: what do you think of this

get the GT3 or 997 Turbo......

Re: what do you think of this

    Thanks

Re: what do you think of this

dr_sam .. Can you tell me how are you building this car? Are using some kind of software? Or their is some special web site that allows to create your own car?? Waiting for your reply...

    Thanks

Re: what do you think of this

use Porsche car configurator it will do it all for you even the price of each option and the totale cost of the car

Re: what do you think of this

"C) if resale is an issue, you'll probably get more bang from your buck for PCCB vs aerokit (though you usually get fleeced with options when it comes to resale anyways)."

Apparently this is not the case for the UK. My dealer explained to me that he will happily pay a premium for the Aerokit. I am told it will retain over half its value over 3 years (which sounds superb for an 'extra'!

Re: what do you think of this

Read latest Christophorus (or prior month's issue?). It explained that PCCB is much improved and it changed my mind about them. If you can;t find it there's gotta be an equivalent write up about PCCB improvements somewhere.

Re: what do you think of this

About aerokit. How much ACTUAL performance/stability increase does it provide over the standard rear-deck spoiler?

I think most guys buy it for looks.
