OMG I'm a little concerned with my readings compared to what you all have posted so far...
Could this be an indication of my break-in style??
My trip computer is reporting avg 12.9-13.9 mpg
Perhaps I should be taking it easier??
Still only 900 miles, but I swear- I mostly keep it under 4200 rpm.... m-o-s-t-l-y
I'm in the same boat. Right now, I'm averaging 13.9MPG with 450 miles and I've been "mostly" keeping it under 4200. But my average speed is only 26MPH so I chalk it up to city driving in traffic.
I wish I could say my mileage info was due to stop-n-go but a high percentage of mine are from wide open freeway driving
I'll attempt to explain why my mileage is as poor as it is:
It's about a 50 mile jaunt from home to work; once the car is fully warmed up I'm pretty firm with the throttle until I arrive at my destination.
On the freeway I'll vary the speeds much as possible; usually Ill stay in lane #4 or #5 (all the way to the right) and let the car slow down in 4th gear to 60mph or below if traffic permits and open up as much space in front of me as possible. If I can drop down to 3rd (or leave in 4th) I'll floor it through 4th and 5th and some of 6th if I can, shifting at 4200-4400rpms. Then immdeiatly release throttle, match revs and downshift back to 5th, then 4th, letting the engine slow the car back down to 60mph so I can rinse and repeat. I'll do this repeatedly until I get off the freeway, trying not to be at a stagnant pace for longer than a minute or two.
On city streets (well, more like suburban areas), I'll just leave a stoplight normally, let the clutch engage fully and give it 80-90% throttle through the gears, and also letting the engine help 'slow' the car as I come to the next light.
So I wasn't expecting any good numbers from the trip computer; but after comparing what others are getting mileage-wise I'm just a little concerned I might be being a little too hard on the car
I'm not over revving; but I am driving the car in spirited fashion 85-90% of the time.
I plan to tone down this style of driving as I get closer to 2K miles. Constant rapid acceleration/deccleration fun as it is, I find myself checking my mirrors all too often for CHP. At that point my mileage should come back up a bit. But probably not much, because I'll be revving much higher! Oh well
Apologies if I sound like I'm jacking the thread; at least part of my post was mostly on topic
