    slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

Anyone notice the clock on your 997 is slow? It is like a few minutes slow every few weeks... man, reminds me of the posts RC and others make about Porsches are becoming like Rolex in popularity. dude, 997s is definitly not build to keep time

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

very few watches/clocks will keep 100% accurate time. the one in my 997 is slightly fast (but it doesn't bother me).
don't quite understand what this has to do with 'porsches becoming as popular as rolexes' though?!

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

Well a digital clock like the one in a 911 really has no "excuse" to be slow. It should run within a couple of seconds pr month - at least. Now if it was analog/mechanical (which would have been cool), a well-adjusted watch should be within 1-2 seconds pr day.

I would have that looked at..

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

agree with temm.. a digital clock has no excuse...

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

I totaly Agree.. The clock is SLOW!! i hadnt any problems with the clock in my 944, 968, 993, or 996....

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

Scientists say that travelling at extremely high speed causes time to slow down.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

The time is something that GPS systems broadcast. If the nav system is installed Porsche has no excuse for not syncing the time from the nav systems. Does anyone know if this is true?

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

I have the same problem... it seems like it's off a few minutes every week!!!
I'm wondering if I should tell the dealer to check it out!!!

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

On my other cars with GPS, they set themselves on time zone changes and for Daylight Savings Time. My 997 doesn't do that and slows down a couple of minutes every couple of months.

I wonder what the dealer could do. I believe this problem is with all cars. Perhaps a recall is in order?

replace with a newer PCM that can play MP3. Not a bad idea, huh.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

I just use the absolutely correct "atomic" time that shows up on my cell phone when I press any button. All non-atomic clocks are approximations. Thanks to your cell, you can tell which ones are n-a.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

The clock on my 997 is annoyingly slow, I set it and about a week later it's 10 minutes slow again.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

Wonder whether the 2006 has the same porblem????

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

The 2006 is slow too. They must source these from VW, because my Touareg is exactly the same, always 8mins slow. Weird.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

If it makes you feel any better... the clock in my Cayenne S is also way off. It is a couple minutes off every month.

Nice to see Porsche is consistent.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

mine is slow about 10 min a month. Glad to see this post....I thought I was going crazy

He can't do anything, i aked him several times

My car is at the dealer's for the second week following, and theclockproblem is not to be solved.

That's funny. The Cayenne's instrument cluster that in fact shares the same hardware as the VW Touareg is made by Bosch. The 997 instrument cluster is made by Siemens VDO. Seems like they have the same problems
Like someone has said before, I thought that inaccurate clocks are a problem of cars without nav. There should be a synchronization of the clocks between nav (master) and instrument cluster (slave).
Do you guys with inaccurate clocks have nav in your cars? I have nav and I didn't notice the clock being inaccurate. Could it be that your cars sit in their garages a long time without GPS reception. So the clock might be inaccurate before starting but might be synchronized at the end of the next drive?

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

I complained to my dealer and then are replacing the whole cluster tomorrow under warranty. We will see if that fixes it...

    Bob

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

mine is faster in the mornings actually: up to half an hour... it goes forwards and then back:) dealer will change the whole instrument panel and the pcm also maybe...

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

Mine also loses about 10 minutes a month.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

wait, there's a clock on the car?

    Porsche needs a watch partner

    Bentley has Breitling
    Aston Martin has JLC
    Ferrari has Girard Perregaux
    Porsche has ???

Just don't say Rolex for God sake!

I vote for IWC or Vacheron Constantin

My clock issue was fixed when I installed the Navi.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

    Porsche Design uses IWC.

Re: slow clock... drive me crazy!!!

Exactly. I don't remember paying attention to time in this car enough to notice that there's a clock (or two).
