    480 hp ?

AMS pontificates 480 HP in the latest mag....

    I have one on order...

Is this the mag with the real info ???

    Thanks,

    Fass

    Re: 480 hp ?

AMS is probably right. I spoke yesterday with my Porsche dealer and he said the same thing 480HP and around 600Nm of torque. VTG-of course but, it look like without DI...
Intro Geneva 2006, first Euro delivery late May 2006.
If I buy one it will be late 2006, after first production run.

    Re: 480 hp ?

    they couldnt beat the Vette?!

I could care less if the HP number is less... I care about the overall performance figures as well as the weight. If it is fat then it will be a huge disappointment.

The 480 HP were mentioned on Rennteam.com for the first time many months ago. At that time, AMS and other car magazines were operating with power figures around 440-460 HP. Another german car magazine with pretty good contacts to Porsche, Auto Zeitung, claimed 500 HP a few weeks ago.

I still think that 480 HP are accurate but I also hope that Porsche reconsiders, offering at least 500 HP. In my opinion, 508 HP or even 520 HP would be even better for marketing (100 HP more than the first bi-turbo, the 993 Turbo or 100 HP more than the 996 Turbo, both because of the 100 year celebration of the turbo charger) but I'm afraid Porsche was always a little bit conservative regarding power figures on paper. Still...I didn't loose my faith that they might reconsider.

The 997 Turbo press release is rumored to be available soon, we actually heard something about end of Nov., early Dec. 2005 (for the press release). Right now this is all we have, Porsche doesn't provide any further OFFICIAL information.

We already did better than we thought: we were the first to publish the rumor that the 997 Turbo gets the VTG technology and we were the first with the power rumor. Not that it really matters but if you want to stay in touch with development at Porsche, you should stick with us.

And NO, we're not an unofficial official Porsche site (like somebody accused us a few months ago), we're 100% independent. And this is our advantage: we don't have to play by the rules, although we would never ever endanger one of our sources just to publish something new or even a sensation. But I can assure you guys that you are feeded with the latest stuff all the time, even if you may not realize it. Just keep reading and...THINKING. Sometimes the whole truth is hidden between the lines...and smileys.

I can live with 480 hp. I'm sure later versions will go beyond the 500 hp that "evreyone" seems to want.

I think you mean "I could not care less if...".

I agree with you, as long as the overall performance exceeds that of the competitors in this class (and lower, meaning corvette). But if the difference between exceeding and demolishing the competition is more HP (and it always is), I'm all for more HP!

    Re: 480 hp ?

480 will be just fine. Keep in mind before the H.P. gets increased Porsche will boost the GT2 1st and then back to the 997TT again.

RC, I hope is today since Ferdinand Alexander Porsche celebrates his 70th birthday today .

    Re: 480 hp ?

I heard 508 HP 2 days ago from Revvv at Champion Porsche.
Come on Larry, spill the beans!

    Thanks Ron!

    Re: 480 hp ?

Latest info from my dealer(rumor?)-There will two versions(!!) for the first time in turbo history at the same time.
Porsche will release 997t(480hp) and 997tS(508hp)-I really hope this is the truth!!

Does it make sense that there would only be 28 HP difference between the turbo and turbo S? Then again, the difference between the Carrera and Carrera S is 30 HP so maybe you are right.

The delta between 996TT and 996TTS is also 30hp...

    Re: 480 hp ?

Think about it this way: 997t-480hp, 997tS-508hp and probably X50 kit for 997tS-540hp(but, probably model year 2007)! That is what I want!

    Re: 480 hp ?

    Sounds good. Sign me up!

    Re: 480 hp ?

i am almost sure that its 480hp....500 would have been better but 480 is ok...

Doesn't make sense. The Turbo "S" models usually have the same power like the powerkit.
If the 997 Turbo gets 480 HP "only", you will never see 540 HP, maybe on the 998 Turbo. The Turbo S should be around 30-40 HP more, resulting in around 510-520 HP (if the base model has 480 HP).

    Re: 480 hp ?

I don't understand the purpose of having a Turbo and a Turbo S. If they make a Turbo S, why would anyone want a plain Turbo?

Unless they change their model policy and apply the same strategy to the Turbo as the 997.
    A base Turbo.
    A Turbo S.
    A powerkit for the S.
    like the 997. We'll see...

Just like the Carrera and Carrera S.
Different power for different needs. Like any other car manufacturers actually (Example: SL350, SL500, SL600, SL55, SL65 and so on.)

    Re: 480 hp ?

    fanch,

What happened to the report on your car?

    Re: 480 hp ?

This is only a rumor. Source is one German car journalist. According to him Porsche will repeat 997 Carrera and Carrera S scenario(997c-325hp,997cS-355hp and 997cS with X51 381hp)... Maybe he is right and maybe he is wrong??
    We will see...

For the 996TT, the powerkit (X50) made the TTS HP go from 415 to 444 (official US specs. with I think 420 to 450 also "reported"), so ADDING an X50 to the TTS is redundant, if the 997TT/TTS are marketed similar to he 996TT/TTS, different from the 997(NA)non-S/S.

Last summer, a northeast US dealer also speculated that the 997TT/TTS would come out together (or at least the powerkit would be available with 997TT launch). Could that be one of P's additional surprises? My local dealer as recently as last week said he knows of NO plan to have an S or X50 available at launch of the 997TT-at least not that he would divulge.

    Wish list (realistic):
    997TT with minimum peak HP 480-508 with cab available for order by end of 2006/early 2007;
    S or X50 available at TT launch with peak HP increased to 508-525;
VTG plus DI at launch-I don't need (want ) DSG.

    Re: 480 hp ?

Now that we're all speaking of rumorville, I heard the for the first time 997TT will be available in Coupe and Cab at the same time. Horsepower wise I still bet on 480.

Al, I agree VTG & DI would be the ideal wish list for me too.

Last year, the Turbo was only around 7% cheaper than a Turbo S. The price differences on those MB models is much greater. If you want more power than the SL500 offers, there's a big price jump to an SL55. There's an even bigger price jump from an SL55 to an SL65. If an SL55 was only 7% less than an SL65, they'd never sell any SL55's.

    Re: 480 hp ?

But there's a huge horsepower increase between the SL500 and the SL55. If I recall theres about 180 horsepower difference and not 30-40 HP.

I would think that people who buy a Turbo, are interested in power. People who buy an SL500 are not. If you want to step up to a Turbo, it seems like a small a price step to go all the way and get a Turbo S. Oh well, Porsche is far more profitable than my company so what do I know?
