997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

I recently purchased a 2006 C2S and would now like to add the X51 kit. Does it really exist... yet? Has anyone ordered one and had it installed (in the US)?

I have found one Porsche dealer that lists the price and part number (997-044-100-00 )
on their site but when I called to order they back-tracked and said it wouldn't be available until sometime in 2006.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

Re: 997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

It exist for sure. But I don't know about availibility sorry.
AFAIK, all X51 owners got theirs straight from factory.
Don't know about after market installation. But it must be possible.

Re: 997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

For the cost of the kit, plus labor, you may as well just trade the car in for a Turbo next year. It's ugly, something around or north of $13K for the kit alone, and then you've got to trust your dealer to install the sucker.... For a relatively small h.p. increase.

My opinion, is that if you didn't order it from the factory, you missed the boat..., it's not worth the money to retrofit it.

Re: 997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

Porsche has said that MY2006 Carrera Ss can have the kit dealer installed. They list it in Tequipment brochures.

Re: 997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

I don't disagree. But the SAF (Spousal Acceptance Factor) is less than zero on any new cars for a while...perhaps a long while. I like to tinker (mod) and would like to stay close to home (Porsche warranty) thus the interest in the X51. These points plus I have heard rumor that the X51 output is underrated by Porsche. Who knows for sure?

So, it's probably the X51 or a trip to Texas to visit the fine folks at RUF. But alas, the SAF looks grim and it's pretty hard to hide a quick trip to Texas!

Re: 997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

I feel your pain. I could use more power myself. But I've resigned myself to just enjoy the car for the fun machine it already is, and maybe a few years from now there will be a N/A 2WD evolved 997 offering with factory power that makes the X51 seem weak, and I'll just trade up for the new "hot ticket" at that time. It's hard to keep up with the Jones's these days, as class-standard horsepower keeps rising and rising at an astronomical rate. At some point, you've just gotta be happy with what you've got, and wait to step up the next time you NEED a new car. Then again, if I had a good tune shop close to me, I'd be inquiring about what they could do for me on a fair budget!!

Re: 997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

In all honesty if you are that power hungery, the X51 will not do the job, maybe for a short time. The short time will even get shorter when you get your butt whiped a few time by the TT's. So wait and get the new 997TT

I agree. My thought at this time is to wait until the warranty is up and take my cabS to evolution motorsports and strap on a supercharger they say 500HP and 400torque. Good reputable company. The boost is only .3 bar so likely will not kill the engine too early-hopefully. Anybody else with me?

Well, surely nobody with some brains left.
The M96/97 engine isn't really "strong" enough for any kind of charging system, no matter if turbo or super charger.
Also think about the gearbox, drivetrain parts, the PSM system incl. the PASM and so on. Only advice I can give: save your money, get a 997 Turbo instead. Otherwise you'll regret it sooner or later.

    But is it available yet?

Cost in Germany is around 10300 Euro incl. 16% VAT, without install. I'd say that you need to add another 2000-3000 Euro for the install job since the engine has to be removed completely as far as I heard.
Performance gain is around 1.2-1.5 seconds from 0-125 mph. This may not sound much but if the 14.9 seconds factory claim is true, this is almost 996 Turbo terrain (14.6 seconds). Top speed goes up to 300 kph. In my opinion, the powerkit makes only sense if you really are able to run your car at higher speeds. For speed limited countries like the US, it may be not really worth the money since the performance gain is mostly in the upper 100 mph range.
But of course no woman can be beautiful enough, no car can be powerful enough...bla bla bla...I suppose you heard about this.

Caution: the retrofit kit is NOT suitable for cars built before August 2005!!!

Re: 997 X51 Power Kit- Fact or Fiction?

Kev: Be very careful with those superchargers, they can be alot of headache. Sooner or later something will go wrong as that engine is not designed for that kind of output. When something happens to the engine no one can touch it without screwing up the Supercharger so you will have to take back to EVO again. That will be a cool $14K also but it will probably dust the 996TT, and keep up with the GT2??

Its very tempting to spend the same amount as our X51 brothers and give the GT2 boys a run for their money. Hopefully RC can convince me to put this idea to rest...tempting very tempting indeed.

OK RC save me from myself. Convince me that this engine is not strong enough for a few pounds of boost. These engines and drivetrains obviously have some extra capacity for strain. I've seen some guys pump up their older porsches and have lived to tell about it. Heck my buddy has a blown ford that runs great with minimal mods did I mention it was a FORD ! Save me RC save me.

Don't do it I went down that road and ended-up with a blown engine

Why not? is there a difference between cars built before 8/2005 and after?

PS: Sorry guys, I tried to remove the italic and bold writing but I failed miserably.
