Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

    Love the 996 Turbo R

I'd still take a stock 996 Turbo over a M6 anyday quicker then a heartbeat...I absolutely love the 996 Turbo!

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

This is a good advertisement for a RUF 550HP conversion. I'm still mulling over doing that this winter to my 2005 996TSCab while I await the 997TT. Only problem is I'd lose the new Porsche warranty.

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

I'm surprised to hear about the warranty, Al!

I was under the impression that one of the aspects that complemented Ruf's greatness was the fact that Porsche approved their work, therefore warranty would not be voided. Have you inquired with the Ruf Autocenter in Texas?

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

LOL, wait untill RC gets going abou RUF!

I'm curious what RC has to say as i've always been under the impression that Ruf does high quality work.

    Well, here is a video of a M6 beating a standard 996TT...

I was very surprised the first time I watched that video. The M6 got away extremely easily, making the Turbo look slow!

The Ruf video is different, however. The R Turbo keeps pulling on the M6 until they hit the brakes. It's a shame the video was removed.

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

As a side note, I don't think a lot of people at the M6board were happy to see the mighty M6 being beaten at its specialty, drag racing.

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

yes, the Turbo looks a bit too slow. i thought it would keep up with the M6, well, actually i thought it would beat the M6. haven't checked the numbers on the specs, but somehow it does not feel right...

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

I cant open the video, but i just happened to meet an m6 with my 996tt in italy last weekend. we were at a traffic light together and both accelerated as best as we could and til right into 3rd gear the acceleration was exactly the same. no way the m6 pulled away.unfortunately i had to hit the brakes in 3rd. so m6 is fast, but not faster in this specific situation.

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

its still amusing that people are comparing a brand new design to one than is around 5 years old :P All those M drivers will be whistling a different tune with the 997TT is released

Compared to a 996TTS the M6 has the same acceleration up to around 240kph. Above that speed level the 996TTS is faster.

    We did a comparison recently.

The vid was removed by google administrator because he claims that that vid was made on public road and they don't encourage street racing.

I'm not defending BMW, but one bad thing that all the magazines tests said about the car is that it is not easy to put the car in the most powerfull mod (P500S) because it needs to enable and disable several things. In the wildest mod the M6 is a bullet and in the vid below you can see a M6 only without the speed limiter (stock power - 507 hp) and it can do easily 340km/h. In no way a stock 996TT can do that, even with X50. In the last vid it made more than 340.

Google are a bunch of puritan pricks.

Regarding the M6 Sport mode, I would think an owner would know how to switch modes. It isn't THAT hard. Also, the 996TT is rev-limited at its top speed. Change the top gear or the redline and you'll see top speed increase dramatically.
Regarding the 340 km/h - unless you show me a GPS readout, I'm not buying it. Speedos are way too optimistic.

Since RUF is an independent manufacturer I thought they offered their own warranty?? Though possibly only on a complete RUF car....

Only on a new car do the offer full warranty. Although they do warrant their work, so if you proved that it was their work that caused the malfunction, they'd honor the warranty.

I agree. It's something that may take some time to get used to but it certainly isn't as difficult as everyone seems to think.
I didn't even think the i-drive was THAT complicated afer playing with it for a while.

Re: BMW M6 vs Ruf 996 Turbo R

Its a Mk 2 GT3 and belongs to Fran Staedler who's member of Club Pasion Porsche from Spain... I think "Carlos from Spain" knows this fotos... (Hope Fran doesn't mind)

You mean to tell me it's faster than the M6?
I think this just proves the inaccuracy of the speedometers. The Gallardo for example, tested by Automobilismo, did 309 km/h at an indicated 331 km/h.

A standard BMW M6 (i.e. with max speed of 305kph) is slower (at speeds above 240hph) than a standard 996TTS. As I said: We did the test ourselves recently. It is no speculation but fact.

Is the GT3 MKII faster than a 996TTS??? Or a GT2??? I believe not. That car is on a dyno run or the GT3 has a huge speedo error. If you provide me the GT3 gears/diff ratio and rear tire size, i will prove you that something is wrong with that pic/car? The only stock P-car that is capable of beating a unlimited M6 is probably the GT2 MKII and the mighty CGT.

BMW has one of the best speedo accuracy. In the vid with the bikes you can see the speedo reading more than 330kph, the driver is saying 335kph and if you look at the rpm the car is probably at 7800rpm. The gears/rpm calculator showed me that at 7750rpm the M6 goes at 319kph real speed (same that GT2 MkII - Porsche statements) and at 8000rpm it goes at 329kph (the redline is at 8250rpm - 340kph).
