    997 turbo: VTG confirmed!

as previewed a long time ago on rennteam, it's now confirmed that the 997 turbo will be the first petrol car with VTG. the result is more power combined with better elasicity.

    RC,

Don't you think it's time for a 'Porsche 997 Turbo Board'?

So we can list all the relative info in it.

    Re: 997 turbo: VTG confirmed!

Great scoop again! Congrats RC and Turbolite!

I can understand how the VTG turbo will make the engine make more power quicker. It may allow it to rev up to its redline in substantially less time than the 996TT, and that will produce diabolical performance!

But the stated 1000 degree centigrade exhaust temperature is very interesting! It might also be a emissions breakthrough for a gasolene engine?

With that exhaust temp will the engine incinerate 100% of its own emissions? Will it even need catalytic converters?
    Could it even use them?

Will this be a engine with pre emissions era throttle response!?

Did Borg Warner USA develop a ceramic exhaust system for it? What about heat effect on the cylinder heads and engine shut down heat soak on ancillory systems?

Anyone here with a degree in Thermal Engineering to explain about this?

Im really excited and hope this is the big breakthrough! The near instantaneous power it makes, throttle response and emissions control could lead to a special new government
classification for the 997TT - "SFSULEV" : Super Fast Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle!

It may make a Toyota Prius look like a BIG Polluter!

    Re: 997 turbo: VTG confirmed!

Here another RUMOR which goes with this message.
I received this from a 3rd person source, this isn't confirmed and all somehow "valid" power figures so far have been in the 480-500 HP range.

Here it is: to celebrate the 911 Turbo, Porsche not only decided to introduce a new technology as a world premiere but also decided to add 100 horses to the power of the 993 Turbo, meaning 508 HP power for the next 997 Turbo.
For those who don't know, the 993 Turbo had 408 HP in Germany.

Again: this is just a rumor and may have been "fabricated" along with the TRUE and ACCURATE VTG press release we received today but I would really like it if it would be true. I still believe in the 480 HP figure but who knows?!...

I wouldn't be surprised if Nick's on the waiting list for a 997TT. Of course, he's not going to tell us that.

    Re: 997 turbo: VTG confirmed!

RC, even if it only has ONE hp more than a 993 Turbo had, the VTG will allow the engine to REV and make power so much quicker, that it would crush a 993TT in any race.

If the 997TT does have 500hp, a F430 would need 600plus hp to just stay near a 997TT in my amateur opinion.

I hope it does have 500hp to re-establish itself as the leader in the super car class. Confidence is a good thing!

    993TT 408HP (US specs.)
    993TTS 424HP (US specs.)

    997TT: ?408+100=508HP
997TTS: ?424+100=524HP (Predicted here on rennteam months ago, 525HP).
I'd love to see some HP and torque dyno graphs with those VTG's.

This would be a nice touch, if they decide to do so .

    Just a rumor...a RUMOR...R U M O R.

    Re: 997 turbo: VTG confirmed!

I forgot the reason for the 100 HP power gain: to celebrate the 100 years anniversary of the turbo charger.
I know this sounds a little bit like BS, I wasn't sure if I should post it but I think that right now, we 997 Turbo lovers are looking for everything to keep us on the boat until the final press release will be launched.
But again: this whole 100 HP thing incl. the reason (100 years turbo charger) is just a RUMOR.

    Re: 997 turbo: VTG confirmed!

Izkalee, you might want to name that candle "Etna"

The stated 997 TT VGT 1000 degrees Centigrade exhaust gas temperature is the temperature of molten lava.

Some other interesting melting points in Centigrade:

    Magnesium: 650 *C
    Aluminum: 660.32 *C
    Silver: 961.78 *C
    Copper: 1084.62 *C

Owners may get to have thier own mobile metalwerkes. Need to cast a new aluminum part at the track? No problem!

I cant wait to see some details of its heat insulation and
exhaust gas temperature at the outlets. It may be able to melt the exhaust probes some emissions testing stations use.

Its a radical solution to get more power from a gasolene engine and that only Porsche would dare to perfect for a street car.

    Re: 997 turbo: VTG confirmed!

I have strictly no infos about the 997 Turbo, but i would just say that Porsche has to keep a coherent range of power for their models.

After the turbo, they will have to fit the 997gt2 between the turbo and the CGT, so i wouldn't expect more than 480bhp for the standard turbo.

The 996 GT2(480bhp) was not very far from the cgt in acceleration and top speed, so what will happen with a 550bhp 997gt2.....?
