    Re: Cayenne...which one?

I have to revise my impressions with the test car a little bit, after an even longer test drive today.

    - Fuel (Diesel) consumption dropped further (I did a reset, so I had completely fresh values), around 10 liters / 100 km in the city and during slower driving (up to 150 kph) and never more than 12 Liters / 100 km on the Autobahn, driving at full throttle and speeds up to 240 kph (winter tires, there was a lot left...). Quite impressive for such a heavy truck and probably the reason why Diesel cars are so popular in Germany. So basically, you get a 800-900 km range with one fuel tank (100 l), which is amazing.

    - Chassis is top notch, amazing. At higher speeds (I did 230-240 kph in narrow Autobahn curves on the winter tires), the truck feels rock solid, barely side roll, very calm and in my opinion better planted than the Macan Turbo at those speeds. Amazing ride, a true Porsche.

    - Most pleasant cruising(!) speed is around 210 kph. No kidding. Truck feels perfectly planted, calm, very low noise from engine and/or tires/wind and it is just relaxing. Very nice vehicle for longer rides.

    - Brake System shows no weakness, feels very firm. It also lacks that "soft" feel the Macan has in specific situations.

    - Acceleration from standstill(!) is a disappointment. While the Macan Turbo jumps forward like a rocket when you fully press the throttle from standstill, the S Diesel takes a second of inactivity (and I really mean ONE SECOND) before it picks up acceleration. You won't win any drag races or red light races with this truck I'm afraid. I tried Sport, Sport Plus and even that trick where I don't fully press the throttle but use more of a linear fast paddle usage approach. No success, that second is there if the car starts from standstill and there is nothing you can do about it. Maybe Porsche wants to protect the drivetrain from too much torque stress but it is a very very annoying setup and it would be one reason why personally, I would not get the S Diesel if I had a choice. This setup actually ruins a bit the S Diesel driving experience in my opinion  but my wife says she can live with it, especially after she realized how much less the S Diesel consumes in comparison to her Macan Turbo.

Overall, I envy Whoopsy that he has a Turbo S, it is so much better and faster than the S Diesel. However, everything else, is really fantastic. The Cayenne has reached a quality and driving experience level which is unique in this segment. I wonder how Porsche will make the next generation better because the current generation is already impressive.

Smiley I never bothered to take a longer testdrive because I never cared about this particular Cayenne model.

I still think though that your Turbo S is much better... Smiley Smiley

    Re: Cayenne...which one?

Right now, my wife will decide between these two cars (I think).

She hates the black/black (which I personally favor...) and wants to go either for the saphirblue one (her Macan Turbo is the same Color) with Sport Classic wheels (the ones in the photo are winter wheels) or the black with Espresso leather inside and black rims (wheels would be exchanged). I'm not a fan of the silver applications on this car though.

Maybe I can convince her to go for the black/black car but right now, it doesn't seem that way.

My wife says the same but I think that black/black suits the Cayenne very well, especially with those black LED headlights and black LED taillights. Wife wants at least a different color in the interior, so I guess the blue and the black one I just posted photos of are the cars of her choice. Tomorrow we are going to know more...

I agree, a different color in the interior would be nice but hey, this is a car for 18 months, not for life and my wife will drive the Cab in spring and summer time most of the time anyway, so... Smiley

Get the blue it's much more rare and gives a certain uniqueness to the package.

    crayphile:

My wife...I would have probably chosen the GTS (only S Diesel and GTS are included in this 18 month lease offer). It is her car, not mine, so I am trying to assist her the best way I can, especially since I have to drive this truck from time to time as well.

Black with Espresso looks nice but the car has silver applications (roof rail, window frames, etc.), also stainless steel skid plates front and rear and my wife hates this stuff. Unfortunately it would cost a substantial amount of money to change this stuff to black and to remove the stainless steel skid plates, so she is going for the all black car.

Right now we have a different issue though: Insurance cost for the Cayenne is substantially higher than for the Macan, so this is kind of a small (I hope) obstacle. My wife doesn't want to spend a cent more for the new car and the higher insurance cost could put a dent in this plan. Let's see what she decides.

    Re: Cayenne...which one?

My wife has decided...black on black with Sport Classic wheels (looks the same as this one on the photo but my wife's also has a black roof rail).

Fully loaded, only Burmester is missing. Even has the pre-heater system, trailer hitch, Sport Design package, Connect Plus and whatnot. Kids are happy about the heated rear seats.

Car will be delivered with winter wheels (photo shows summer wheels), Sport Classic 19" in Platinum.

Dealer really wanted the deal, so he got it. indecision

If everything works out as planned, the car will be ready by next Wednesday.

    Re: Cayenne...which one?

Let's see how long before she regrets the Macan turbo. At least she wont be stuck with that one too long and it is a good deal.

    Re: Cayenne...which one?

Congrats. Black is the best, maybe even the only color for a Cayenne

    Re: Cayenne...which one?

    SciFrog:

Let's see how long before she regrets the Macan turbo. At least she wont be stuck with that one too long and it is a good deal.

She loved the Macan for it's size and drive feel (it definitely feels smaller and more nimble) and of course because she thought that the Macan is the "younger" car for younger people (women... Smiley).

However, the advantages from this deal are quite interesting and she couldn't resist:

    1. She doesn't have to worry about the lease return anymore (she already has 8000 km over the established limit of 15000 km per year and it would have been at least 12000 km more if she would have returned the Macan a year later), not even talking about the minor damages like small stone chips, dents and other stuff (this was never a problem though with our Porsche dealer).

    2. She pays the same money she pays for her Macan lease because dealer took over a huge chunk of the initial payment for the Macan to the Cayenne. Dealer says he can sell the Macan for a good price instantly, so I guess he already has a client. Only the insurance is 300 EUR more per year. Unfortunately.

    3. Her Macan Turbo consumed around 14 liters / 100 km in the city (she drives mostly in the city), the Cayenne S Diesel only 10 liters / 100 km. Also, Diesel is around 15-20 Eurocents cheaper than fuel, so she saves at least 70 EUR or so per month. Minimum.

    4. No need for an Approved Warranty anymore, which would have costed her around 1100 EUR for the next year of the lease.

    5. After the 18 months lease, she returns the Cayenne, no questions asked. She can then decide what she wants next and right now, it seems she will take over my 991.1 C4 GTS Cab lease because she is amazingly in love with my 911. For me, this is fantastic because I still can drive the 911 and I can choose another car for myself...or none (which probably makes more sense but the next gen Cayenne Turbo may be interesting as well).

    6. We urgently need a bigger car for a couple of trips next year, incl. maybe a trip to Eastern Europe to visit some old friends (the Jeep is going soon back to the dealer...).

Unfortunately, I have to pay 2800 EUR out of my pocket for the new winter wheels (dealer takes in the old ones for 3000 EUR) because I promised her she wouldn't have to pay any additional money for the Cayenne and I forgot about the winter wheels she needs. Smiley I can easily get 2000 EUR for these winter wheels (19" Sport Classic Platinum) on eBay after 18 months, so no big deal.

Dealer really wanted to make this deal, I think he gets some sort of bonus (sales person) or they need to move these cars, don't have a clue. The offer for the GTS was a bit worse (lease cost, not period...same 18 months lease offer available), around 250 EUR more per month.

I think it's a good choice RC, I really love V8 diesels, especially in this type of car. The torque suits the character of the car, and it sounds pretty good (imo better than the unnaturally loud V6 GTS).

Smiley I agree but their reputation right now is not the best (probably the reason why they don't sell well, I cannot see another reason for this 18 month special lease offer) because of that VW emissions scandal and the heightened awareness in people of what NOx can do. The car looks like a Cayenne S, no indication for the S Diesel though, so we're good.

Yes, the V8 Diesel (especially in the facelifted S Diesel Cayenne), sounds very nice, basically like a petrol V8 but a bit less loud. I heard a brand new X6 M50d recently and it sounded like a...Diesel.
