    993 pedals question

I noticed that there are quite a few people on this forum that have owned or currently own 993 porsches.

I am just wondering how they feel about the floor mounting of the 993 pedals? I have only driven a 912 that had floor mounted pedals, and it felt really strange? But i guess it is something you get used to?

I know Porsche changed the mounting of the pedals on the 996. What was the reason behind this?

    Thanks Guys

I don't remember now if the 993's floor-mounted pedals were much different in feel to those of previous 911s. But the ergonomics were something you had to get used to.

I'm guessing that part of the reason for the change to underhung pedals was so that buyers wouldn't have to commit to lousy ergonomics any more.

Another part may have been the need to move along with the "state of the art" to allow more freedom in sourcing related parts (e.g. hydraulic master cylinders, power assisted brake boosters).

    Re: 993 pedals question

The floor-hinged pedals don't have to be un-ergonomical. In fact the Carrera GT has them as well. It much more resembles the movement of your foot when pressing the pedals.

The main reason should be safety-related. In case of a collision the pedals intrude in the interior and would cause the driver's ankles to suffer.

Pedals that are hinged above also protrude but swing up. I assume that the chassis on the CGT is that stiff that this isn't an isue at all.

    Re: 993 pedals question

Most purpose built race cars have floor mounted pedals. Porsche had them for decades. They feel better to use for me. The hanging pedals offer no safety advantage and are just cheaper to spec into the car. CGT has floor mounted pedals for a reason, you can get a better feel with them,
but they are more expensive to build.

I still want to know why they moved the gas filler to the passenger side on the 996. And why it also has the most oversized fuel filler door for a small car.

    Re: 993 pedals question

I love them, althought the gas pedal is too low for heel-toe. I use an oversized pedal that fits over the original one that has height adjustment (Wings Engineering 3rd Foot - no longer made)

    Re: 993 pedals question

    Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

I'm gonna have a test drive soon. I'm tossing up b/w a '94 993 or a 2002 boxster. I know they are very different cars, but i like elements of both....and i have a strict budget as well.

I use floor mounted pedals in the Formula Ford, but you are practiacally lying down in that car. So its a very different feeling.

    Thanks Again!

    Re: 993 pedals question

    Get a 95 and a half 993, they have more power, or a 93-94
964 RS America. In fact just get a RS America! They are more fun. FWIW, the 1994 RS Americas have rear seats while all 93's RS do not. They are much more lively and involving than a 993. IMHO, I think they look better as well. Either one will just devastate any Boxster except for a MY06 987S maybe.

    Re: 993 pedals question

    WoW thanks JimFlat6!

    Those RS America's look awsome!

I'm assuming they all were produced for the US market......thus none in Right Hand Drive? I live in Austalia where we drive on the Left side of the road.

I didn't find anything useful on google? Does anybody know if they were procuded in RHD?

For a RHD version what you want to look for is a 964 RS.
The UK got some, OZ might have got some but I am not sure.

Yes, and a ROW 964RS will destroy an RS America (much lighter and a bit more power) - most uncompromised track car for the street. Very punishing as a daily driver though...

    I'd still rather have a 993RS though...
