MMD, you need a vacation, bro....

Check out St. Barth's in the Carribean, it's near paradise on earth.

To have a 997 Turbo Cab or 997 C4S Cab with factory hardtop for year-round romps would be the ultimate! I'm feeling a slippery slope under my feet tilting in that direction.

    Cool, Damian,

Just make sure it's specifically in the direction of the 997 Turbo Cab.

Some of you people it's amazing you don't walk around with survey cards and permission slips asking for everyone's approval before taking a chit ! Damn. People are too busy thinking about themselves to be worrying about if you're driving a Porsche coupe or convertible and who you're with. ?? . I can't imagine someone spending time judging me. And if they do and judge me poorly, then F em. Who cares.

We used to live in Wellesley, MA. If you want to "live" there you DO start caring. You naturally want to conform and not stick out; do your networking with all the nice people. If you want to be a rebel, that's fine, in sixty seconds you're labelled a rebel: game over. Sad but true.

    MMD,

The problem with Wellesley is it's in the Peoples' Republic of Massachusetts, which means to "fit in," you might as well ride a bike. So listen to Stradale and stop fretting about what others think about your car.

MMD is correct in that lots of cities/office cultures have a socialist/country club element to them to varying degrees (socialist/country club jealousy coefficient prob is directly correlated w/concentration of Harv/Stanf/Prince/Wharton grads)....even in allegedly jaded, materialistic places like Greenwich/SF/LA....just try routinely commuting via 430/612/65, esp on a rainy day, and see how many wealthy eyebrows are raised....smart guys simply "price in" the risks/costs of driving what they want and make their choices.....

Geez Amen. I wouldn't have thought there would be coupe guys that were so ready to bash your car. It makes you look bad too. Instead of focusing soooo much on negatives that you can dream up post about the positives of having a coupe. It's the better way to do it. I love the 997 coupe. Just like the more interesting and fun parts about having the cabriolet BETTER.

My point is - I don't care. Didn't care that I was driving a old, loud muscle car in high school when most kids used daddy's old bimmer. Didn't care when I used a motorcycle to get around to classes in a yuppy college because freshman weren't allowed cars so people probably saw me as a hoodlum.

But I've never been the type to be jealous of people for having really nice cars. I've always been the type instead of being jealous or resentful I would walk up and talk to the person in genuine excitement, not hateful they have something I don't. I honestly never noticed any lifted "eyebrows". It's like the saying - 'it takes one to know one.' I think the people that worry about what other people think of them are the same people that judged other people in the same way and were/are resentful. They believe other people are seeing them the way they view others. I've never been like that (thank God) so it's not something I ever worry about.

What do you guys think of my license plate on the Porsche ?
(it's okay it's not reg. where I keep it)

    Re: Downsides of Cab ownership?

Gorgeous cars, gry choices. I think Porsche cabs are awsome. Yes they have their own problems but so does everything else in life. I had a Turbo Can and I loved it. The only problem is that the seals go bad after a while and the wind noise and occasional leaks can be bothersome. But when you put that top down you feel like you own the world. Enjoy my friend don't listen to anyone do what makes you happy.

Awesome plate I tried to get the same plate in california but it was taken. I am thinking of getting 997(picture of a heart)it. What do you mean it's not reg where you keep it?

By the way Stadale thanx for the info on the silver hood crest it looks incredible with the seal grey. I can't tell you how many people have complimented me on it

This cracked me up. If you get a cab, put top up when you park for more than a minute. About 10 years ago I had a Saab convertible that I loved (slow as molasses, but I still loved it). Anyways, I always put the top up when parked, one night almost didn't while at a friend's house, but thought better of it and did. When I came out, sprinkler was broken and was flooding all over my car. If the top had been down, the interior would have been a wreck.

At my office, across from a duck pond, I ALWAYS keep my 996TSCab parked with the top up, because the mallards that frequent the pond seem to love oogling over my car, but unfortunately they act like squads of F16's on bombing missions as they jettison excrement (whose shades of brown and white "clash" with the black top ) all over the top. Thanks to Stradale, I have learnt how to counteract the contamination with the car soft top cleaner, du jour.

    Re: Downsides of Cab ownership?

Here is my coupe for winter and cab for summer.

    cab

Differences with soft top or hard top up?

Is there a big difference in noise or heat/cold levels between the soft top and the hard top?

    Re: Downsides of Cab ownership?

Personally, I like cabs - just not for myself anymore. I've had too much sun exposure - I don't want to look any more like a dried prune than I already do. Thats why I got a coupe.

Speaking of Bumperplugs, here is my 996TSCab after switch of the side markers from stock orange to clears-purchased from B-plugs, 30-second easy self-install:

    Yes a Boxster for me

The great thing about democracy is the majority aren't necessarily right. But the minority which aren't necessarily wrong are still entitled to voice their opinions. After all this IS the 997 Board, you might get a different viewpoint on the Boxster Board. Could be we Boxster owners are just jealous of course. But not this one. I'd be envious of a 997 S coupe, however.
