Mikla:Wow, that E63 is fast!
Yes, the E63 is fast but from what I heard from various sources (incl. car journalists), the E63, the new M5 and the Panamera Turbo S have basically the same performance in real life environments.
BMW will introduce a Performance version at some point and Mercedes the facelift (spring 2019?), so the race is continuing. I am still curious what kind of impact that particulate filter will have on these cars and their performance.
It is also no secret that the E63 engine delivers way over 650 hp (incl. customer cars), I know that some here don't believe it but talk to tuners like Renntech or Lorinser and they can confirm it. This makes tuning a bit more of a challenge because the base power they start off is not 612 hp (E63) but usually 650-670 hp. A guy at Renntech apparently claimed, that they once had a customer car with around 690 hp... A guy on a German car forum claimed the same for his E63 (maybe the same person?). With the rush to installing a particulate filter, I doubt that the engine will keep it's power, especially for first cars of the new MY. So I specifically requested to get a car before the new model year starts. Let's hope it works out as planned (currently, it looks that way, new engines with particulate filter will be installed starting sometimes in June but my car is supposed to exit the factory end of mid/end of May).
It seems that an AMG engineer, who is involved directly with engine development, told a customer once that the running in period of the 4.0 l V8 Biturbo M177 engine is essential to the car's power output. They were made aware of this during extensive testing during development. This claim is actually on the AMG Owner's Forum (German) as far as I remember. So if you want your E63 to run fast, you need to run it in properly (strict limitation under 4000-4500 rpm and never more than 3/4 throttle).

That's correct the running in seems very important and there are strict guidelines from Mercedes. Even a big sticker on the front screen to remind you. I am always very careful running in the engine's as result of this all my cars have no (or very limited) oil consumption. Even the 911 Turbo uses only 0,5 l per 10.000 km. What surprises me is that in these modern engines there are performance differences. In my first R8 (V8) the engine was replaced under warranty. The second engine was much faster. So Christian you have to control yourself in the first weeks with the E63. I can tell you from the experience with my AMG GT-C this is sometimes not easy!

Won't be easy, will probably take some boring trips to Italy, Switzerland and Austria to put kilometers on the car. Actually even planned to do a weekend trip Munich to Cannes and back, would add some nice 1600 km to the car.

Update on my ordered E63 S AMG Edition 1:
Car already has a production number assigned, it should exit production on May 5th.
Pickup at dealer should be between May 21st and June 1st. Can't wait.

Conny997:This is really a cool information system. I'm not sure, but I think at this point Mercedes is ahead of the competition. The best thing: it also increases the anticipation...
The information system may look cool...if it works. According to German internet forums, the system isn't really always accurate. Sometimes the car is ready earlier (the system shows a precise date but the car is already at the dealer two weeks earlier) or later (system shows delivery today but car isn't even in production yet ).
Thank god I am in touch with my sales guy, he replies to my emails very fast (within half an hour...my Porsche guy within two days...if he replies at all ) and keeps me updated with information from his dealer system (dealer is factory owned dealership "Niederlassung", so information is pretty accurate and up-to-date).
I would love to pick up the car myself at the factory, I would get it two weeks earlier if I'd do that but unfortunately my girl finishes high school (Abitur), so not possible.

Update on my E63 S AMG order status:
Pickup at dealership is planned for May 18th 2018 now, a week earlier than anticipated.
Car is still planned for a May 5th production exit but of course sometimes sh.t happens, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Sales guy offered a factory pickup (Sindelfingen) incl. a private small group (only us) production tour on May 16th and kids were excited but wife kind of spoiled it, she doesn't agree to take our boy out of school for a day because it is close to a school vacation and it is very likely they are going to write a test on that particular day. Bummer.
I was lucky: AMG starts MY 2019 production on June 1st. Starting with that date, all engines are Euro 6d TEMP certified, meaning they have a particulate filter and some changes in hardware/software.
Also, no more Edition 1 models for MY 2019, so I got one of the last (sales guy seriously claims last one but I think this is just him trying to make me feel good ).
Since there are rumors that the 6d TEMP certification process was (and still is) a bit chaotic, resulting in not a single non-AMG E class petrol model available for the first couple of months (only Diesels...funny), I am really happy I still got an "old" engine without particulate filter. These engines are already legendary for the power output, so let's hope that mine delivers as well.
I will run it in properly (as officially recommended by an AMG engineer who claimed that these engines are highly run-in sensitive) but 3000 km (I think) are a lot...it will be difficult.
Speaking of the new E class MY 2019: There is an E400 Diesel 4matic with 340 hp available now, 0-100 kph in 4.9 seconds, pretty fast for a Diesel. Car is Euro 6d TEMP. Maybe interesting for some people here who are interested in a fast Diesel as a business car.
Delivery date is shown in the Mercedes Me App as May 15th but this is only an estimate...not sure I am going to get the car before May 18th.

the-missile:Christian,
make a factory delivery on saturday morning or wednesday and the kid will be good including happy wife
Not possible, May 16th was the only day for a factory delivery with production tour. The next available date would have been end of May, too late (I need the car before the school vacation, so I can run it in properly during the school vacation, my son loves long drives).
you said he has petrol in the blood, make him live the dream.
His dream would be watching the Lamborghini or R8 production (he watched it on TV already)...maybe one day.
What is done is done, the factory delivery has been canceled, so May 18th it is...

the-missile:is it on time?
No, it isn't. That Mercedes Me App is crap.
Yesterday (Saturday) at around 12 pm, my car was, according to the app, still in the production process, not even entering final quality control. So I called my sales guy because I was worried and he told me that my car is sitting, as of 10:41 am, in the Stuttgart transportation train station, ready to be shipped to the dealership.
Today, the app still doesn't show final quality control or the car finishing production but in reality, my car is probably already on the train. LOL
Delivery is planned for the 20th week (starting May 14th...but I probably don't have the time to pick it up before May 18th, so...not sure...maybe May 16th).
Can't wait... 😎

Don't forget your white belt and white shoes when you pick it up. You need to be in character for the car.
Seriously, it's an exciting time for your family. I can feel your anticipation. Hopefully it meets all your expectations.
As far as your car reviews, I think their great so long as you keep them relatively short and relevant to the car performance and feel.
Where the willingness is great, the difficulties cannot be great.

For me and my kids, my wife couldn't care less...which always surprises me again and again. Funny enough, she won't let us pick up the car alone, she always wants to be there.
