Draws attention to the cheesy Hyundai/VW foglights. Plenty of Boxster owners would kill for the Cayman's body-colored side intakes and now this. Finally, the aluminum accents on a SY background is probably not the best sample - clashes a bit. Might be different with a blue or grey but I'll pass.

If the factory called it the "Silver Plastic" option instead of "Aluminum Look" trim option who would buy it?
Notice the Silver Plastic steering wheel trim. Thats certainly "form follows function" isnt it? Has Porsche gone off their nut or just identified a unique mental segment of their new car buyers?
So many Porsche factory options are just pure dork bait and Porsche doesnt mind stooping to grab at dork money.
In a lot of ways Porsche is getting cheesier than GM, and thats pretty stinkin low.

I agree with Jim, hard to understand why would anyone pay for it but its about giving people options. we should create the non-marketing-correct option list, here are some ideas:
Exterior Silver Plastic look (just in case there was not enough platic in your car
)
Loud-sports-engine-sound (soon to be provided by BOSE loud speaker attached to aluminum look grill - only possible if platic-look selected for exterior
) 3 settings, Ferrari-sound like, lambo-sound and VW Golf GTI-sound as standard) Modification required if you want loud-engine sound all the time - kindly provided at Rennteam for no additional cost.
