    Lotus Exige

Here are a few pics of my brothers' Lotus Exige

It has a modified engine ( added a compressor) .
Super light rims ( ordered in Japan where they are specialy built for racing)
    Carbon console
    Removable steering wheel
    900 kg
    265 HP
    0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 s
    Max speed 240 km/h

You get a real sports car with amazing performance for less than half the price of a Gt3.

    Re: Lotus Exige

It looks cool (albeit a bit plasticky IMO) and I know first-hand that it handles beautifully on a track, but I wouldnt pick one for everyday use.
    It's a true made-for-the-track driver's car and I'm sure a total joy to drive.

I hope he enjoys it! Thanks for the pics, Gnil!
What kinda tires is he running on, and does he track it?

    Re: Lotus Exige

Great pix! Thanks for posting them Gnil. That really sounds like a lot of fun. Definitely a giant killer.

    Re: Lotus Exige

    Very very cool!

    Re: Lotus Exige

    nice car!!

    Re: Lotus Exige

Yes, the orange color seems to work better on the Lotus than it does on the 996TSCab posted on the 996TT Board. The 996TSCab is too genteel for orange, but on an Exige it fits.

    Re: Lotus Exige

I agree, orange definitely suits the Exige better than the 996TT!

That Exige is beautiful in a very raw, minimalistic kind of way. I especially like the interior, where driving is obviously the main focus.

    Re: Lotus Exige

    I like the colour!!!

    enjoy !!!!!!

    Re: Lotus Exige

Yes it's really a great and funny car but not for every day use. For the tire i use the Yokohama A048, perfect on the track. Yes i do some tracks with the exige. Lately i was in Spa Francorchamps(Belgium), sorry for the porsche, ferrari and Chrysler viper but they were behind me and could only . To the owner of these cars, please don't take it personnaly, because i do have a great respect for these kind of cars, maybe one day my exige will go away and one of these car will replace it.

    Re: Lotus Exige

Driver is always the biggest factor at track days!

What kind of supercharger/kompressor has been fitted to the car? In the U.S., a company called Ragnorak Racing is doing 250hp and 280hp supercharger kits, the former having the same unit as found in the 240R.

Here in Switzerland we have a company called Bemani and he does he's own compressors. Been tasted before since 2 years now and just lately been aproved for the lotus and also others cars. Like the toyota corolla etc.. The exige with the bemani compressor is more powerful then the 240 R

    Re: Lotus Exige

    Here is the link http://www.bemani.ch/english/home_en.htm
...and actually the Exige does 0 to 100km/h in 4.2 s ( same time as a TT 996) ( not 4.5 like I wrote before)

    Re: Lotus Exige

Exige looks great but OE Toyota engine is not my idea of a performance car engine. I've driven one like that and the lack of torque is soooooooo frustrating. When it pulls, it's in the few last 100 rpm's left when the engine's already yelling the guts out of it. I have not tried turbocharged versions but I imagine this car with a Boxster S engine to be a really fantastic device for track-days. In this respect, my experience of trackdays at Spa (rather high speed track) is not really that Porsche's get eaten up by Exige's, to the contrary. Except in the slower corners, the average Exige drivers don't come close to 911's.

I'll be running my TT at Spa next saturday

    Re: Lotus Exige

I too wish that Lotus had more resources to pick or design an engine. A Boxster engine may be too large and heavy for an Exige. You can get very reliable horsepower out of a Honda four cylinder. 200-300 hp is possible, both in N/A and turbo form. Honda is very good at making these little motors. I suppose a small six cylinder could go in as well, but there are tradeoffs.

I would expect the Exige to be very slow at Spa due to the power defecit. Track tests seem to indicate that apex speeeds are pretty good.

    Re: Lotus Exige

Before Lotus choose the toy engine, i prayed for the Audi 1.8Turbo :more Torque, very reliable in stock 225bhp, easily pushed to 280bhp, and a very acceptable sound with the 5valves per cylinder...

The Exige would be too short for a Boxster engine. Its package is laid out for a "transverse" engine/transmission unit like those used in most FWD cars. The Boxster's "longitudinal" engine / tranny would be much longer.

Maybe down the road, now that VW is investing in Proton?

I do have to praise Lotus for getting the best engine they could. No way Honda is going to give Lotus a motor and they just barely got the Toyota. The high revving concept does suit the car's personality, but a bit more torque would be nice.

The 240R engine is fantastic and Toyota has a nice little upgrade It's like a Porsche powerkit:
