Re: 991 GTS Review LONG-TERM UPDATE (after 12 months...)

As usual, terrific report. Your comments about the 991.2 sport exhaust have me concerned. An important aspect to driving a sport car is the exhaust. If my Targa sounds wimpy, I can't live with that. I want use ability but not at the price of losing sensory feedback. surprise

Re: 991 GTS Review LONG-TERM UPDATE (after 12 months...)

Just thought I'd post a quick update. Two weeks ago I reached 30,000Km with the GTS and took it in to the dealer for the first scheduled maintenance. Happy to report that the car has been flawless so far.

I also took the opportunity to throw away the Pirelli PZeros N0 and replace them with the N1's. Also happy to report that so far I've had no problems with these and they are more confidence inspiring. Seems they have fixed the issues with the horrible unpredictable wet handling of the N0, fingers crossed.

One thing though I noticed after the maintenance, I could swear that the GTS has gotten even louder for some reason after I picked it up, not only in sport mode but overall in general. I may very well be just in my mind since these things are subjective and not quantifiable, so don't quote me on this. I'm not complaining though, it sounds amazing and more of it is not a bad thing. Maybe other members can chime in about this after they get their 30k maintenance.

Overall, this daily driver still puts a smile on my face every time I crank the key kiss

My car is still flawless as well but I only have 12k km or so in it.

Regarding tires: For you in Spain, the N1 makes a lot of sense. It has been highly improved for dry surfaces and is also a bit better in the wet. Just be careful with lower temperatures (under 10°C or so...), the new N1 seems to have a weakness (compared to the N0) under those conditions. Not that it will happen often than you have under 10°C in Spain. Smiley

Not that Carlos is in Madrid but winters in Madrid are cold compared to other parts of Spain with average temperatures of about 6-8 °C (43-46 °F) and the coldest month is January 6 °C (43 °F). There are parts of Spain that are quite cold.

Re: 991 GTS Review LONG-TERM UPDATE (after 12 months...)

Of course Spain sees under 10°C from time to time but we basically have these temperatures permanently from November until March and sometimes even during spring or autumn, especially in the evenings.

Since I'm on the coast, even though its the northern Atlantic coast the climate is tempered by the ocean in spite being so north, we never get any snow except maybe once in a decade, and the only time it gets bellow 10ºC is some of the colder early mornings, but always above 0ºC.

Specifically the local area I'm in has a micro-climate and its one of the places in Spain with most sunshine per year, which is not normal this far north, all the rest of the north-west has worse weather.

We do get rain though in winters, which is good because the lack of freezing and good rainfall gives great forests and vegetation. A 2 hour drive inland and you have plenty of snow in the mountains though.

So I should be good with the N1's Smiley

So happy things are going well with the GTS!  That Carmine color gets me everytime I see it.  I miss my Carmine GT4 (sold to a broker who sold to a dealership), but the new private owner just contacted me and brought it by for a reunion.

I may have to order my 991.2 GT3 in Carmine, even though my natural inclination would be to do something new (it's just so striking) Smiley

Wow. after one year 30,000km!kiss The exhaust really does add to the driving enjoyment especially with all the speed monitoring.

I have had my Targa for four months and I have 800 miles. surprise

I need to use it more but I plan to turn it in next summer when I order the .2GT3.

Very true, the sound really is an important part of the driving enjoyment, other aspects also add to the experience of course, but none of them can be a substitute for sound, it just doesn't work that way. The GTS is the complete package for my particular personal needs, each person has different needs and tastes, but the aspect I'm most appreciative and grateful for is the sound it has, after all its still a Carrera engine yet the sound it makes is among the best I have heard from a 911.

The .2GT3 has all the making of an outstanding 911, I'm sure it will give you the mojo back. The Targa is so beautiful and so elegant in its lines, but seems you need something that will stimulate you a bit more?

Re: 991 GTS Review LONG-TERM UPDATE (after 12 months...)

Carlos, I made the mistake of going from a high powered racing NA engine to a medium powered turbo engine. The difference is dramatic. I need the rawness, the sound, PDK-S and racing engine to make things right again for me.

The other mistake I made was not waiting for the .2 Targa GTS which would have provided me with more of what I wanted.surprise

Re: 991 GTS Review LONG-TERM UPDATE (after 12 months...)

But the 0.2 GTS will almost certainly use the 3.0L turbocharged engine so I don't think that would have changed things much for you don't you think  hmm.gif , even with the sport exhaust its not the same, nor is the engine even close to the perky fast reving N/A GT3 engine you were used to.

I now have two  little problems : Exhaust valves stucked ( but that might come from using the Cronvall device for too long )

The other problem being my PCM who jumps randomly ( radio stations, music on the iPod or CD  change by themselves and reprogram themselves !!! )  It does not happen always, I seems it happens more when cold outside Smiley

PCM on 911 works perfectly but on Cayenne which is the new version it doesn´t. The problem is sometimes it memories the radios stations and sometimes it doesn´t.. Apart from this, all other functions works fine.

I´ve also the Carnewal device ever since 2010 on PSE and has been working fine. I use each time I drive the car switching between the two functions so this may help to keep it working correctly.
