When the M6 came out, they gunned for my poor pal the Carrera s, same with the V8 Vantage, M5, Chevy Corvette. Hell, Ive even seen comparo's with the new F430.

Anyone know the 0-60 specs of the M6?
Personally, I find the new gen of Bangalized BM's horrific. Having owned 2 bm's, I also cannot see myself heading back into the dealership to even contemplate any of the current models.
Mercedes seem to be killing BM on design over the last generation - however, what's intriguing is that BM are still increasing sales....

Ironically, Bangle's move upstairs - that job has been given to Dutchman Adrian van Hooydonk - comes at a time when many BMW owners who initially opposed his challenging styling admit that the new look is growing on them. Van Hooydonk, who since 2001 has been president of Designworks USA, BMW's California design studio, was the lead designer for the exterior of the current 7 Series and the 6 series coupe. Ultimately, the sales of the various models is the real measure of BMW's success. IMO the new BMW M6 with F1 technology onboard looks great - would love to handle the launch control/power button

Mercedes - their quality had taken a hit over the past couple of years, especially after buying Chrysler a few year back.

Here's one reason to compare. It's like many guys come to a crossroads with only two cars left to consider buying. In the past it typically has been to decide between the Carrera or the M3. If you need seats you get the M3. M6 and M5 same deal?

As I understand it, the 997s is no match for the hp excessive m6/m5.
Handling and sheer pleasure of driving the 997s is a different story all together.
There's a reason the BMW needs all that hp to begin with...hp alone doesn't measure acceleration...
But if the Bimmer needs all that hp to make up for the extra 600 lbs (as compared to a 997 S) then so be it.... I would never buy a BMW over a Porsche, ever....

You are wrong my friend, M6 will not crush the 997S. Considering the size and the horsepower of the BMW, the 997S does a hell of job against it. If you bought an M6 don't underestimate the 997S and cut it any slacks as it will punch you in the face. Faster or slower, BMW is not a match for Porsche and in 5 years you won't get anyone to pay anything for the M6 while the P car will be still highly sought after

BTW its actually 7.8lbs/hp. Whatever the case here is.. the point i'm trying to make is that an M6 is directed to a totally different market than a 997. I don't see anyone in dilema on whether to buy a 997s or an M6 (more likely an M3). Two totally different cars.

You know the car with the Chevron happy face and style lines from the 60's. 
The 997 is one of the ugliest cars on the road. This is not a subjective point of view. Most magazines in their review of the 997 comment on its lack of styling but rave over its performance. Pretty it is not.

Could you please get examples of such quotes from magazines? I have read countless articles about the 997 and I don't remember negative comments about its appearance from "most" magazines. I believe that most articles liked the 997 styling better than the 996. Please furnish some quotes to back up your statement.

I think our 997 would be hard pressed to keep up with such a powerful fugly looking beast of a car.
I love my 997s, and would never trade it for any bmw. Without a doubt, the 997 is one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
I doubt many would say the same of the M6 or any other bmw for that matter.
