No camouflage, just protective layer...car was fresh out of production. Maybe they just did the regular testdrive they do with new cars coming out of production or somebody was driving the car over to Weissach or LB.

There is black tape over the outside edges of the tailights and on either side of the license plate area. I don't know what the tape is covering or hiding, but there is definitely tape on the back of that car. I don't think they come out of production with random black tape on the cars. They must have put the tape on for a reason.

    Phil

Yes, this is very strange. If I recall, every spy photo of the 997TT had this black tape over the edge of the tailights. I wonder if it's just a little mis-direction.

    Good! A 911 Turbo with 997 headlights and interior, a 996 tail, but MORE POWER-than a 996 Turbo-just what the doctor ordered.

As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

Ok, I'm really slow today (or I have more time at work than I thought to look at this). I could see the fake rear panels covering the exhaust pipe on each side. So I wonder what's really behind there???

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

okay, so there are two places of interest in this picture which are hard to see if looked at quickly. First, the tape on the end of the tail light. I'm guessing it's to hide the fact that the turbo is a wide body (who didn't know that though?) remember on the new C4 and C4S it has C2 and C2S rear light assembly which means that the edge of the lights receed into tht flared body panel. The second camo area i noticed is the place to the right and left of the license plate. You can barely make out the outline of the camo. It's there to hide the unusual exhaust assembly (why is it so high, Carrear GT like?) and the new vents behind the rear tires. I attached a picture which i circled the camo.

    Exactly what I was seeing.

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

Awesome find! So far I like what I see ... perhaps they could have made the exhaust tips a bit bigger and thus more agressive.
Too bad we haven't got a picture of the side vents

Make them an option, keep the 993/996 turbo twisties standard. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. . . .

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

The left rear light more clearly shows the wide body that the tape is trying to hide. Look at the bottom of the light, notice who as you look from right to left, the light assembly sinks into the body panel, they are no longer flush. Also, someone mentioned that the exhaust tips are going to change. I don't think so. judging from what is visible around the exhaust outlet, i think that's the final exhaust shape. I personally like it. I'm not a fan of the four exhaust tips on the S models, it's just too busy looking.

    Sorry for posting two times.

I agree. The 997 greatly improved on everything that was lacking in the 996. The car will be as different from the 996TT as the base 997 to the 996.

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

I do not see any pictures ... What's going on?

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

OMG, you're missing out, man, these pictures are so awesome

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

I'm really undecided between the Gt3 and the Turbo..

this night i maked strange dreams..and can't sleep well...

The back of the turbo looks great..

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

    nice pics!

    thnx for the update!!!

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

I thinks the car will look perfect. Strong, sporty and aggressive, but not too flashy. Just like a P is supposed to be.

What do you think about the wide body? Is it the same one as the C4 or is it 'flatter' on the top?

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

.... There is one thing that looks ugly: it' s the middle brake light!!! Imagine the car without this red line in the middle of the spoiler.... It would look much better!

Don't think so. I guess it's just a protective layer from the factory.

EDIT: I've just seen, RC already mentioned that.

Standard turbo gets standard exhaust tips, turbo S gets quad tips from the S models. Could that be possible?

I don't think this is the final design for the exhaust. If you look where I circled in red, the cut-out goes much higher than the exhaust pipe does on the top. The green line the the muffler that you see through the cut-out. Why would they cut out such a big hole that shows the muffler behind otherwise? The shape reminds me of the 993 turbo exhaust pipe, just bigger.

Good point. Could be that the final version will have a different shaped exhaust tip.

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

    Very weird.
Why would they have the white protective film on the roof and door plus the blue foam bumper on the door ? This is how cars once completed get delivered from the factory to dealers. I've never seen this on a test mule before. Anyone ?
And the back is still camo'd. weird.

    Awesome pic btw. THANKS !

    Agree 100%.
From the larger pic you can see the holes aren't cut even either. I white outlined on the larger pic the rear bumper exhaust cut lines then shrunk the pic size down to fit on the page.

As RC said it is a production car of some sort .

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

Another thing. Why does it have two 3rd brake lights? Maybe it's normal with the speed ajusting tail, but still odd. One on the tail and one at the bottom of the rear window.

The tail would definatly look better without the 3rd light embedded in it.

Again: after a car exists production, it goes for a short testdrive out on the street. And this is how they look when driven during this short test drive. That simple.

The rear bumper holes (exhaust) are cut by hand because the final part isn't probably available yet. Why should Porsche start to order a huge number of rear bumpers if the "real" production didn't start yet. But the minimum camouflage shows to me one thing very clearly: the car is almost ready to go, good news.

RC, what about the black tape over the ends of the rear lights? What's up with that? Are they teasing us?

Re: 2 new 997 TT pics

Maybe the whole entire rear bumper cover is camo, and the black tape is covering up where the camo does not exactly cover everything up. and the two uneven holes around the exhaust pipes are a last minute cut to make it fit before the drive.

And what's up with the rear wiper....

Agreed. I've just noticed that the car has parking sensors too. So this has got to be pretty close to the final bumper design
