Anyone happens to have the November issue of TopGear? I would appreciate if someone would scan the article on AMV8 and 997.

Ehhh....ummmm....yeah, well what I meant was that after reading this informative article I will rather buy a 911 than a Vantage, and thus saving about Pounds15 000

    Thanks for posting!

    Re: Here you go....

Hmmmm, looks like I'll end up getting both. 997 for the daily drive and the wife, and the v8 for selfish moments.

    Re: Here you go....

    Thanks Rich C

    Ditto to what easy_rider911 said

    Re: Here you go....

    Thanks for the scan.

The truth is: you just need a Cayman S to beat the vantage at the Nordschleife. (Cayman S 8.11m, Vantage 8.13m)both on normal street tires. In Hockenheim it's not close. The Vantage on PZero Corsa can't beat the 997S on normal tires.(997S 1.14.3m Vantage 1.14,8m) The Vantage on street tires is slower than a BMW M5 (Vantage 1.16.7m M5 1.16.5m)

I really like this Aston Martin, but i thougt it would be better on the track.

    Re: Here you go....

.....what will happen if you put those tires on the Porsche??? Aston is bragging but they arent even takin into account that the Vantage needed special tyres to beat the Carrera S?
If you put tires on the P that could potentially improve its laptime by 10sec it would probably beat a Stradale

    Re: Here you go....

    it beat the 997?!?!

    Re: Here you go....

    any free stuff tiis time?

sorry i only buy autocar of evo mag unless they got some good gift!? top gear suxx!!

it said aston will offer those tires as an option, so I wouldn't say it needs "special" tires to beat the 997. For that matter, you could say that the 997 needs "special" brakes (PCCM) to achieve the time that it did. So what would happen if you put carbon ceramic brakes on the aston?

    Re: Here you go....

I find this 'ring stuff really interesting - when the times are that close with or without PCCB/special tyres etc. over a full lap what are the real differences you & I would see?

Great for bragging rights down the bar/pub though

The Aston is $110k and a 997 is $70k. Why not compare the Aston to a $110k Porsche.

    Re: Here you go....

Just add the X51 package to the Carrera and it would still cost lower than the Aston and you'll see a great difference!

    Re: Here you go....

You could compare the Dbr9 to an equivalently priced porsche though......

    Re: Here you go....

Other than financial consideration, how anyone could choose the 997S over the AMV8 is mind-boggling. Performance, beauty, sound, lush interior and exclusivity is hands down in favor of the AM.

My god; the 997 is an old shoe. Porsche replaces the sole, laces, heal and numeric designation and sell it as a totally new car. Wake up!

My father has an early spot for the AMV8, and it should be a blast, but I doubt it will feel as fun as the 997S or even my Elise down a twisty road. Out to dinner though...

in talking about the car that set the time on the Ring, it had PCCM's...now you try buying a 997S with PCCM for 70k & see what happens

Nick - I agree that I'd rather have an AM if they cost the same, except that everything I've seen indicates that the 997 wins on performance (and all reviews say the subjective driving experience of the 997 is better too). Why do you think the AM wins there? I do find AM much prettier though, but still too expensive for me...

Well you can't buy it for $70k but you can buy it for a chunk less than the AM and I'm not sure how much you need PCCB's for one lap. The AM is a GT and the 997 is a sports car. I don't really think you can say one is "better".

Yep, and the Mitsubishi Evo I'm going to buy will cost a third as much, seat 3 more people, have ONLY 286 hp and still lap 2 seconds faster around the ring than the Aston.

oh, im not really saying that the AM is "better" i was just responding to other peoples posts about how its using "special" tires & such, when in reality, its just an option. Just like PCCM is an option on the Porsche...thats all

    Re: Here you go....

It's very simple....the AMV8 is a "grand tourer" and the Porsche 997S is a "sports car", they both have their place.

How could anyone choose the 911? Well Hamster explained how he picked it in the article if you read it. It drives better, both subjectively and objectively, and for a class of people that's what matters most. How is that hard to understand?
