    Swapping 997 C2 for 360 Modena

I'm loooking at trading my 6 month old 997 C2 for a 3 year old 360M that's got 10k miles on the clock. It's just had a full belt service and is a 1 owner car in metallic black. It has a tan leather interior with tan leather headliner, door sills and rear wall behind seats, black carpets, winged race seats, Bekker nav, cd changer, fire extinguisher, manual box, Scuderia shields, Challenge grilles, and xenons. The car is in virtually as new condition.

For the Ferrari owners out there is there anything I should check out in particular before pressing the button? This will be my first Ferrari and I'm a bit nervous about servicing costs etc but there are a number of recognised independents here in the UK who offer much better pricing than main dealers. I'll only do a max of 2k miles a year in the car. Any advice you could give will be gratefully received.

    Re: Swapping 997 C2 for 360 Modena

    Hi
R U buying from dealer or private sale? Reason is that dealer cars will have warranty. It is well worth having car checked out by the indie for peace of mind....One costs that I found substantially higher was insurance compared to 997. If interested I can give u pointers unless u have good quote already

I took the plunge last month and really it is a much emotive experience owning a ferrari than the 997. The experience is hard to describe but it is well worth the plunge. It will always give a smile.....U won't regret it..

The 360 series is very trouble-free. The only problem areas I know of are the cam variators in the earlier cars, I believe through 2001. Ferrari covered the repairs when the belt service was done in most cars. Other than that, they are remarkably reliable, and absolutely thrilling to own and drive. Enjoy!

Sounds like a beautiful car. I am not sure of the model year. Ferrari in late 2001 changed the clutch plate because they were having problems with the clutch wear. It often was evidenced by a initial jerking of the car when going into gears.

I would also get entire service records.

You will love the car. Enjoy!

Gary what is the status of your 430? The last I read they had fixed the short. Have you taken delivery?

    Re: Swapping 997 C2 for 360 Modena

Thanks for the response guys. The car is a 2002 model with a full Ferrari service history. It was registered in September that year so I guess that would make it the equivalent of a 2003 model year in the US? I'm dealing with an independent dealer who is going to provide a warranty which can be upgraded to a Ferrari warranty if I wish. Doc, from your recommendation it sounds like the thing to do. I've enjoyed the 997 but I'll still have my Cayenne to drive everyday so I'm not deserting Porsche entirely if I go ahead with the switch. Thanks for the pointer about insurance but I've already got that covered. My broker has got my insurer to cover the car for the same premium as the 997 - I do do a lot of business with this company though as I have a lot of vehicles through my business with them.

Picking it up today. I had too much going on earlier in the week. Finally! I'll post photos when I can.

Typical of MANY, but not all Ferrari owners

    Re: Swapping 997 C2 for 360 Modena

    JP,

I understand your sentiment but the UK market is very different to the US. Depreciation is a major issue here and high mileages kill values. With servicing costs running at $2500 US for a routine service to somewhere around $5000 US for a belt change service, running costs also have to be considered. This is going to be a weekend fun car for me and is something I have dreamt of owning for many years. I'm not as wealthy as some of the lucky guys on the board so I have to balance how much I can afford to lose against the fun of owning one of these great cars. Hopefully that will not stand in the way of me enjoying the whole experience.

To give you an idea of the UK market I enquired about an 01 model year car at a main dealer that was registered in September 2000. It had covered 13,500 miles but had had six - yes six! - previous owners. The highest mileage car I've seen was a 1999 with 26,000 miles on the clock. That's an average of only 4,300 or so miles a year.

That does seem to be the case ... here in the US you see people with 911's with 50 to 100K miles and the original owners who have taken many road trips all over the country . This is somthing you do not see with Ferrari owners .

    Re: Swapping 997 C2 for 360 Modena

All the more reason to buy 360 ISUK... it is a weekend car for me 2 and I intend to drive at 4-5K miles.... that is why it feels more special when u drive the car.. more of an occasion than the 997....I too share ur same views on issues of high miles on the car, as the current UK market dictates no one wants a high miler...

shame you must restrict the freedom of what you want to do with the car for the next owner . As I look back I really missed a lot of fun with cars always worring about things like how many miles I put on them .

    Re: Swapping 997 C2 for 360 Modena

this situation on high milers does not affect Porsche nearly as much as F cars in the UK, therefore it is preferable to have one for everyday use and another for weekend.... Is this not the same in the US?

    Re: Swapping 997 C2 for 360 Modena

I think it is the same in the US .. but too bad as there are so many great places to drive to . I have been doing long road trips for years in new Porsches and as long as you do not keep the car for more than a year or two you do not loose much . After having 911's for almost 20 years you get the urge for something different but not sure if the Ferrari is as good a car for very long road trips as the 911 ....... just started a thread about it . As far as reliability and maintenance the car is worry free for the first 50K miles a few oil changes but other than that you just drive it and forget about it .
