Yes, Im getting that info as well. It a real shame, and if that is the case, I doubt they will be competitive.

Well, you have got to believe that they know what they are doing...
They had the rare (and well-funded??) opportunity to completeley re-design the RSR to make it competitive again in GTE/GTLM for the next few years, amid very strong turbo-charged opposition (Ferrari, Ford) and in the absence of a new mid-engine car. If they decided to stick with NA after all, it will interesting to find out more about their rationale.
In the recent video showing the RSR undergoing testing in Sebring, it certainly seemed to have pretty good, torquey punch out of corners.

They will have to rely on BOP to keep the Turbo's from stomping all over them. One wrong calculation (not unheard of - see Le Mans 2016) by the regulators, and they will be bringing up the back of the field. From a racing perspective, I just don't get it. From a commercial/marketing perspective, I can see their point. I just dont agree with it. Far too risky.

I don't know if it will be that disappointing. There were rumors at some point that the GT2 RS is using some of the next generation tech, incl. maybe the engine. Could be interesting enough to go for it.

Agreed. Walliser said as much, stressing that thanks to BoP N/A engines are made to perform eqally relative to turbos...plus he emphasisef that now road car would feature the engine-gearbox combo...what is the point of it all, really, silhouette car racing?

Well, there's no BoP in the real world. Porsche wants to sell cars at the end of the day and a 510hp GT2 RS isn't even remotely competitive anymore.

Back to topic in a rather circuitous way...to me, that makes they GT2 RS a souped-up aka turbo-charged and very likely absurdly overpriced version of the look-alike GT3 RS, related to exactly nothing used in motorsports, soon to be superseded by 992 hybrid and other tech it will not yet have, at best apart from some pieces of the next 992 turbo engine generation...my interest in it has cooled off considerably.

Well, the Ferrari 488 has 670 hp in the real world, only in the crazy BoP dominated world of GTE Pro is is limited to the power level you mention, at least for now, as future increases cannot be ruled out...so the GT2 RS road car, were it related to the RSR, could easily be more powerful that its potential, artificially stifled racing sibling!

What did you expect? The GT2 RS will be fast as hell but no professional race car.

Why would you expect otherwise? The performance of the race cars is not from their engines, it's from everything else, and the everything else is what makes them unusable on normal roads.
A mere motorsport engine in the GT2 RS would not make it competitive or much faster than the GT3 RS. These are road cars and once they reach the limits of just how hell-ish it would be to drive on a normal road, they have to turn to engine power.
Unless you're going to make the car undriveable on a normal road, the motorsport engine most likely would not be sufficient.

Since the RSR makes 25hp more than the Cup, maybe this is the main difference?

RSR:
One-off silhouette racer unrelated to 911 line-up with underdog engine. Extreme case of BoP junkie.
GT2 RS:
Antithesis of RSR. Cheep and cheerful turbo boost to engine performance to unprecedented level, otherwise nothing special. Not related to anything (engine wise) nor needed for anthing (homologation) in motorsport. High-margin cash cow kissing good-bye to 991 era.

Got yesterday info from a reliable source that the GT2 RS will come only in 2018.
in 2017, there will be only the 991.2 GT3 as far as GT models are concerned.

I have the same information. GT2 RS details released in mid 2017, 2018 for deliveries. I've not heard if this will be a limited numbers car like the 911R yet, I hope not. I have a feeling this car will be instead of a 991.2 GT3RS.

Porsche are also planning to launch the next 99x for all kind of coupe, cabrio, GT, etc. models. First Mk I, then Mk II. Remember, you read it here on RT first
