    SL65 Traction?

Considering ordering an SL65 for daily commuter use, in both urban settings and high-speed suburban fwy driving...and occasional wkend mtn roads; have seen couple Euro mags claim SL65 trac can come unglued w/stabbing throttle at 30MPHish on dry pavement(even w/all trac/stab ctrls active).

Have a few pals w/65s who say trac has been fine. Test drove a new S65 (w/35 mis and "green" tires) briefly today and couldn't unglue trac despite a few attempts.

Anyone w/65 expce w/comments re: its trac in general...and in wet conditions? Thx.

    Re: SL65 Traction?

the car takes a while to get traction before it gets going, but it's not that noticable. you're going to be filling up the car every second day if you use it as a daily commuter it's DAMN heavy on fuel, especially when one can't resist driving it flat out the whole time

IMO, get the car, it's a lovely vehicle, i'm sure as hell enjoying mine

    Thx for feedback, Mike.

Ironically, one of my few complaints re: the otherwise brilliant 996TTS for commuter duty is its small fuel tank and some 13MPG...requiring frequent fill-ups...

A guy who also owns a tuned 996 Turbo in my town, owns a SL65. He loves it as a daily commuter, he loves to drive it on the Autobahn but thats it. Traction is horrible, the ESP jumps in immediately and if you turn it off, you get some very nice smell and smoke from burning your rear tires.
In the wet, it is even more horrible to drive but again like I said, only when it comes to sporty driving, especially from standstill or in curves. As a daily commuter in some sunny regions with mostly straight streets and/or an Autobahn, the SL65 rocks.

    Re: SL65 Traction?

    RC, appreciate your insights.

The SL65 will be part of a diverse trio, incl 996TTS and 430, for next few mths..until new & improved toys launch from P/F/M...

Now the question is when next available 65 build spot is.....Merc colossally screwed-up launch of 65's in US as they heavily shipped cars w/no options and made finding a near-term build spot annoyingly difficult (gotta get blk/blk w/blk ash wood, optional blk Nappa leather, panorama roof and parktronic)....we shall see if they've sorted out the game yet....

    Re: SL65 Traction?

Decided not to get a 65....new 65's (w/poor color and/or option choices) are sitting on dealer lots in US and selling at disct; SF dealers have no waitlist for new orders, yet getting a build spot from MBNA is a hassle; and Merc won't allow any bespoke touches (like the deviated stitching, etc that $150K P's and $200K F's customarily offer).....

Merc has failed Marketing 101 in trying to sell late-model-cycle $200K cars that depreciate $60K once one drives them out of the dealer.....

it's different here, there's a 2 year waiting list for a 65 here, if you want want now you'd have to pay a premium like i did. merc is only shipping 15 per year to SA or something, very limited numbers

What's the used 65 mkt in SA (for cars w/>3-4K mis)? Do you guys ship used high-end cars up to London to get better prices in a deeper mkt?

    Re: SL65 Traction?

mine has got 1k miles on now and i could still sell it for the exact same price i bought it for, black is a hard colour to get, not many black 65's going around. I'm not sure about shipping cars to the UK though
