    New Porsche watch ....

    New Porsche watch

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

we're lucky it comes with a "second" hand...or else it'd prolly be a $600 option

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

only a one year wait ...

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

Wow - that watch costs as much as a GT3RS!

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

100,000 EUR for a watch!!???? That is disgusting. If it were some historic Rolex or soemthing I would understand but it looks like Porsche is raping the consumer yet again.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

100k for a watch? WHAT? Who's smoking crack?

obviously the people at porsche! i was also at the price! thought i had to get my eyes checked. no ways in hell I'll pay 100k for a damn watch!

ps. it doesn't even look expensive!

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

The fact that it has a digital output but a mechanical movement is kind of cool, but not 100K cool. I'd rather a Patek Phillipe World Timer, that's a cool watch. And the 80K in change would be nice too.

No it would be a $6,000 option

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

LOL... the sad thing is many folk on this board are loyal enough to Porsche to think this is a good deal.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

What a bargain, I'll take two please!

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

Christmas is right around the corner- stock up now, they'll make great stocking stuffers.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

Guys, this watch does not cost $100k, it costs 100k Euros, so closer to $125k, for those of you who thought it was too cheap to warrant your attention

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

lol, when I first saw the picture I was thinking "maybe, I'll pick one of those up, looks like a cool casual watch", then I saw the price and had a heart attack.

Are all the Porsche Design watches in this price range? Or is this like a limited edition CGT?

You would be surprised how much you can spend on watches

However, I agree that Euro 100.000 for THIS watch is too much...

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

Rolex Daytona is still king .

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

I know someone who is going to be happy .... Nick.

50 pieces per year at Euro 100k a piece this is what you can call "exclusivity"

I'm wondering how much Porsche Design (that has nothing to do with Porsche AG) is making per unit....

Euro 100k (incl VAT) that is more or less Euro 80k excl VAT less retailer margin of let's say 25% that is Euro 64k. I can easily imagine 50% margin that would mean Euro 32k per watch !!!!! not bad at all.

Last fiscal year (03/04) Porsche AG made a pre-tax profit of Euro 14k per unit sold .... which is not much in comparison !!!

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

I thought Porsche Design is majority owned by PAG

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

To the best of my knowledge, NO.

Porsche Design was created by "Butzi" Porsche who designed our beloved 911 ... when he left Porsche AG.

Actually Porsche Design isn't listed a Porsche AG subsidiary.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

    My sincere apologies .....

I just checked on the web at www.porsche-design.com and they say, they are owned by Porsche AG.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

    Yes Eric,

Porsche Design Austria has been taken over by Porsche Stuttgart a short time ago - so no harm for quoting something different at first.
F.A. Porsche is or will retire and wanted a realiable situation for his office. That's why they teamed up with the automotive branch. They are still separated reg. products, Austria doing a lot of consumer goods for Porsche AND outside customers, Porsche Stuttgart doing some transportation design apart from their own car range.

Nonetheless technically this watch is pretty unique from what I know - there seem to be some famous people to get in line for that watch. Besides that I don't think that the customers aquiring the first production runs are morons for paying that much for a watch - I guess they know what they are getting!

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

    Ferdie,

    Thanks for your precious input.

I was not saying that Porsche Watches buyers were morons ... I was just saying, I'm 100% sure it's a very juicy business where margins are extremely high because it's highly emotional.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

    Bon ami,

it is always good to read your comments. It wasn't at all intended to be directed at you, actually to noone personal.

I would resist as well to dig out that much money for a watch but judging by the waiting list there must be some reason for it. As far as I'm informed W. Röhrl is pretty fond of that product.
Reason I am fairly informed about Porsche Styling's business position is since I am roughly affected by it.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

The reason is because it's the "most complicated wristwatch ever made in production series" according to the add. I also suspect because of the very limited output (50 per year ie 1 per week) that makes it even more desirable .... I can understand W Rhorl want one ... I really like the design.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

No doubt that it is a masterpiece of miniature mechanical engineering. I am sure that the craftsmanship is superb and such exclusive luxury trinkets never come at a Timex price.

The comments about here about it were very revealing. Some complain about a 100K watch that will appreciate in value, but gladly pay 100K for a 180mph car that will sink in value and never use the left side of its speedometer anyway.

    Interesting to say the least.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

    100K for a 7750, I don't think so. Surely 10K???
It's not even an inhouse movement WTF???

Trust me, no way is a Porsche Design watch EVER gonna appreciate in value. Hardly any such modern watches appreciate in value these days.

Sean. The Porsche Design Titanium watches of the early 90's
that used IWC movements sell for more in 90% used condition now than they did when brand brand new.

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

On Antiquorum, an "International Watch Co., Schaffhausen, Porsche Design, "Ocean", 1990's.Fine, large, self-winding, water-resistant, titanium gentleman's wristwatch with revolving bezel, date, center-seconds, matching link bracelet, and deployant type clasp." was sold including buyers premium for 2,415 USD.

The original msrp was definitely more than 2,145USD if I recall in the 1990's.
    90% more now, than then??

    Re: New Porsche watch ....

I meant in 90% condition versus in "as new" condition.

The "Ocean" was their "cheap" watch. Even the German Navy bought them for their Divers and Minesweeper crews.

Porsche had the Ocean, two sizes of other Chronographs and two sizes of a watch with a compass underneath.

All of them now sell for more than when they did new.

    Girard-Perregaux pour Ferrari Enzo Ferrari

"Is it a surprise that there's an Enzo watch to compete against the Porsche watch? Like the Enzo, the GP Enzo is a lot more expensive than the equivalent Porsche (it's priced at upwards of $150,000)."
