    Is this the dreaded RMS leak?

    I own a Porsche 911 Turbo S, with Tiptronic transmission, October 2004 delivery, and have already clocked 60,000 klm.
    I have noticed a small leak (two drops a day) from two rubber caps that are located at the bottom of the bell housing, between the main engine and the Tiptronic gearbox.
    Is this what you keep referring to as the RMS leak?
    I was told in another forum that this problem does not affect the Turbo because the engine block is different, is this valid?
    Finally, is it serious and should it be fixed? I mean, other that the small mess it creates on the garage floor, can any harm be caused by it?

    Can you tell if the fluid is oil or transmission fluid?
    You are right, the crankcase for the GT2, GT3 and TT is completely different and is not know for the "RMS" problem, though a rear main seal could leak on any engine, regardless of manufacturer.

    No, I am afraid I cannot tell whether it is engine oil or transmission oil.

    Leaking Rear Main Seal on the crankshaft. It has afflicted 986/996's, and to a lesser degree the 987/997. In most cases Porsche fixes it under warranty, or even outside of warranty as "good will".

    So it's kinda like Porsche's weakpoint...
    I never even heard about it before RennTeam.

    For anyone interested in this subject, it turned out that the leak was from the Tiptronic gearbox, not the RMS after all.

    Hehe... It depends on what we find once the engine and gerabox come down for the repair. Btw, this is another shortcoming of the Tiptronic: both gearbox and angine have to come down, they do not come down separately, at least according to my repair shop.
