You're taking about a S right? Not that it matters (?). Mine took a few days shy of 6 weeks from build date to arrival in California (only took a week longer to get to dealer). This was in mid summer when demand was high. It only takes a few days to build (assemble) the car, the rest is customs and travel time. Your dealer KNOWS where the car is at every stage in it's getting to you.

I also had a car set for Sep. 5 production. It went ONVESL early on Sep. 2 and is scheduled to arrive in San Diego on Sep. 25 on the Lyra Leader. (see http://www.sdmis.org/schedule/) About a week or so more and then it will be at the dealer. It should be the same for you assuming you are on the left coast.

Oh, one thing which might mess things up? If you car just misses the boat and has to sit there while more cars accumulate to form another "batch" for shipping. Just something I heard... .
Again, AFAIK, your dealer knows EXACTLY where your car is at all times. While he's having his coffee and trying to look bizzy he's probably checking on it anyway. Don;t hesitate to call and bug him.

Mine, too, was "built" on Sep 5, and was "ONVESL" Sep 12. The ship's name is Seijin if your final port is San Diego. Seijin's first stop was Spain; it's due to arrive in the Port of San Diego at 8 pm on October 1. Unloading should be completed within a day, since the Seijin is scheduled to depart from San Diego on Oct. 2. I've heard, but so far have been unable to validate, that you can watch "your" ship go through the Panama Canal, if you can figure out when it's in the canal.
From port to dealer ranges from three to ten days (for Los Angeles), and whether there's any issues that arise with customs or PPI after the Porsche is off the boat.
