Just backed into my kids bike

Great. Was just backing out of my driveway after washing my 997s cab which is two months new, and backed into my boys bmx bike. It didn't feel like much, but then I looked at it. Crap! Now I've got a chip/scratch, right by my fuel door on front fender, such a prominent part of the car (what part isn't...) Sticks out like a sore thumb. So, first of all I needed to vent, and then wanted to see what you guys think. For deep scratches, are the body shops re-spraying? I am hoping they can do amazing things without re-spraying and make it look like new. then

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

    another

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

That's very unfortunate ...hopefully there will be a quick and easy fix.

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

OK I am starting to calm down a little and collect my thoughts.. I imagine a light rubbing compund might take some of it out.. then maybe just a dab of touch up paint. I may try that, hopefully I can get some more opinions from my fellow porschephiles... Why couldn't this have happened to my Suburban

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

No worries. I had a bad scratch on mine too. There are mobile services that come to your house/office and do it for you and BELIEVE me you can't tell the difference.

If you were in Houston I could refere U to a real good one.

Look under dent removal / paint and scratch Dr. or something like that. I'm sure you have plenty of them in N. Cal.

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

I would not touch it until you get the opinion of a top body shop , the good thing is that black is easy to match .

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

Ouch! Especially after just two months!
Best of luck getting it fixed.

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

    1. be happy you didn't back into one of your kids
    2. be happy you have a black car, a paint pro should be able to do wonders with his hands, paint and some special polisher (not possible on lighter colors)
    3. painting the whole fender could be a problem, even black sometimes is difficult to match, especially when viewed in sunlight

Sorry to hear about your "encounter" but worst things could have happened, so don't worry too much.

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

Good luck with the repair- I'm sure it'll look like new!

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

this is a great article ... being black this technique done right will have very good results .

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

Thanks for the optimistic view RC- I think it's so easy to get caught up in taking care of our cars.. parking out of the way, cleaning feverishly, etc..I think you guys would laugh if you saw how this happened, I was going so incredibly slow, I think I hit the handlebars just right, not even feeling them, temporarily locking them against the front fender.. I'll try one of those scratch repair places and keep my fingers crossed.. ahh, just what I needed, some sympathy for my pain

Agree! Don't fill a deep scratch w/ anything but matching paint. But let pro do it.

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

Really sorry to hear about the minor incident and the resultant scratch. I have a black 997S, and it is extremely suceptible to any mark whatsoever. I use a great detailer who is part of the "Confidents" franchise or chain, he has always been able to touch up any minor scratches or chips and Im sure someone in the trade will be able to repair yours. Good luck. To make you feel a little better, here is what your car will look like after the touch up.

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

Black (non-metallic) is the easiest color to match...

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

Relax : now your car is really unique, hallmarked by your own son... Why don't you keep it like that ?
    And call it scarface !
    Only problem : the rust.
    Call it rusty scarface...
I wouldn't appeal to surgery, even aesthetic, for a little scratch like that.

Re: Just backed into my kids bike

Well at least you didn't drop your hardtop onto your car (which I did once lol).

Well, I'm glad it's not just me... I did that too.
