Yep, it's farcical how they treated Pierce Brosnan.
He has a 5 movie contract. This is his fifth movie. The moment he started saying that he didn't want to become typecast etc, they dumped him. They spent months in casting sessions with hundreds of actors. Eventually, without any pomp & ceremony, they go back knocking on Pierce Brosnan's door.
He just looks perfect for the part.

Casino Royale? Was Fleming taking narcotics when he wrote it? The book is pretty wierd and kinky.
Bond crashing his supercharged Bentley roadster while chasing the evil Le Chiffre's Citroen.
Bond taking amphetamines to gamble all night!
Bond captured and spanked (!) by the kinky bad guy, then after freeing himself and escaping with the girl, demanding
that she give him "slave" time. Whoooa Ian!
Peter Sellers made a Casino Royale movie. It was a swingin sixties shagadelic psychedelic bimbo laden romp filmed at someones French country house between breaks for hashish and champagne. Find it, watch it, see if you can understand it!

Let's not forget the Burt Bacharach score for Casino Royale! I agree that nobody takes Bond films seriously, but the films take themselves seriously (they really have to) which is what made Casino Royale different. One other tidbit, if I remember, David Niven who is in Casino Royale was initially sought to be 007 before they decided he wasn't what they were looking for and got Connery instead. I always suspected, however, that Niven would have cost too much and Connery (at least in 1961) was cheaper. Didn't know that Brosnan was back, interesting.

Connery was perfect for the role, but it was Terence Young's directing, and, more important, elegance and style, that set the standard for the series, especially in From Russia with Love. Thunderball was fun to watch, and I did have a chance to dine at Cafe Martinique on Paradise Island off of Nassau, The Bahamas, a restaurant that in the early 1960's was a private home rented out to EON Productions to shoot part of the movie (Remember the scene from Thunderball in which 007 arrives via boat in the evening to a dinner dance at a glass-walled, harborside residence where he gambled and schmoozed?). We went there in 1997 and dined inside, but the next year, I understand it was torn down to make way for an enormous hotel expansion. . . . 
Wonderful memories, though.

Gadget Wish List from the films' producers...
#1 Talent that will work for below scale, ask for no perks or per diem and not demand to be paid for any overtime.
#2 A real Aston that will actually start up for every take.
#3 A real Aston that will keep running during every take.
If they cant get #2 and #3 to happen, they will have to resort to fake Astons using Ford Mustang V8s as they did in the last Astonized Bond film. That should be a warning to any potential Aston buyers.
