You may already know this but here goes.
You want a plug put in from the inside and a patch over that. You want the hole to be clean on the inside. If it's ragged looking or has steel belt wire sticking out, it may be a problem.
The plug keeps the tread and belts happy. The patch keeps air from leaking out. The inner-most layer of the tire is the only layer which keeps air inside over the long term; hence the airproof patch.

Don't wanna start a big debate; just chatting here but, I don't achieve sustained speeds anywhere near what's expected for our Autobahn-designed cars. I mean I hit 100+ now and then just for fun and it's never on a curve so I don't think my properly repaired and repairable tire is gonna fail me. I figure the chances of it blowing at 80 mph (usual highway speeds around here) are small. Why small? because there's lots of patched tires on other cars out there you don't see blowouts everyday. Also, I'm guessing here, the forces on a tire at 135mph are some huge multiple greater than the forces ona tire at 75-or 80.

SOrry to hear that from your dealer, mine as I say was very good sorting this all out. Have had many hi performance cars over the years and never had an issue patching these types of tires. Response from Porsche has varied by dealer from my experience. I did make the mistake in the past of using generic tire firm chains (Sears and Firestone) for flat repairs, and on both occasions they did the fix ok but scratched the wheel. Was on my M3 (e46), and after a little discussion both times they paid for a new wheel (Im do not like to see vehicles with scratched rims, mine are always dent and ding free). My advice though would be to find a high performance tire place as opposed to the generic chains from my experience.

You are correct sir. Porsche refuses to admit proper repairs to tires on their cars in the non-Autobahn USA are feasible.
Officially Porsche doesn't want their dealers to repair tires. Nice that my Porsche dealer (and most Porsche dealers) also selland service other cars like Volvo and BMW.

Is that photo before or after you used the can of goo?
Good point though, I guess they are very easily damaged; turned into trash alot quicker than normal tires? Huh, maybe there IS an issue with not being able to SEE or otherwise detect significant damage once the tire has gone flat while rolling even for a short while... .

I didn't know this tyre had been repaired until I checked the inside and discovered the patch. It came to me almost new and mounted on a set of rims I bought used in the USA. I transported them to Europe and used them there for a while before this one blew at about 200 km/h (I felt it start to go and slowed to this speed before it did actually blew).
Later, the car was in Stuttgart being worked on by Porsche and they discovered a front tyre had also been patched. I guess they had removed it from the rim to check it. They refused to return the car with the patched tyre and replaced it with a partially used tyre (I guess one of their tyres that had been removed when they switched their fleet to winter tyres).
I had one more rear tyre which developed a leak. I ran on it low for a short while. The sidewalls are so stiff on these tyres that you cannot feel it just rolling down the road. Actually this is quite scary because it means you wouldn't know you had a flat until you tried to take a corner.
In any case, when I re-inflated the tyre in an attempt to limp home, I could hear the popping noises as the inside of the carcass separated from the plies and air got inside. That really brought home to me how careful you must be with these tyres. I hypothesise that exactly the same thing had happened to the blown tyre above.
So now I am really, really cautions with these types of tyres. I don't think it is a good idea to use one that has been dismounted from a rim as the machines rip the tyres about quite a bit in an attempt to protect the rims. And I will not use one that has in any way been repaired unless I am absolutely sure that it has never been run flat.
But I think the actual patching of the tyre itself is no big deal at all.

Holy Sheeet! Good point again. WOW
yeah, the mount-dismount process. Ripping the tire sidewalls without knowing it. Good reason to go ONLY to Porsche service and make sure they have the BEST machine to do that. Wow, good points in your post, more to pay attention to. Thanks Stephen.

Or one of the tyre places that has the best equipment and is serious about what they are doing. But be ware. The best equipment is really expensive and many claim they have it but do not. You really need to know. You cannot just trust them at their word.
