Friend lived in the US. He did the training in the US. I don't know if he uses a US license or if it is a international license (missing knowhow). He once told me to spend my summer holiday in the US, do the training and receive a license because that is much cheaper than to do all the training here. (Didn't do the 9/11 killers it that way?)

He is paying a 2-digit amount per hour

US license is around 6000 USD...I think. Not sure however how many flight hours your friend needed and how many landings are a mandatory requirement for the US license or whatever license he got.

I cannot afford (time-wise) to spend my time in the US, making my pilot's license.

Yes (high 2-digit amount). And all of the members of the club have to do some maintenace work (I don't know how many hours/days per year)

Many years ago I was looking to do my helicopter license . I did one hour to try. Costs in Switzerland were 75k for the private license and 120k for the professional .

And then it cost per flying hour in the helicopter are 1k !!!

I had , at the time, also looked into doing it in the US . Much cheaper and faster . The license could partially be converted to a Swiss one, but I would of had to do more more exams to fully convert it ( I can't remember exactly which ones, think it was Radio + night + maybe mountains ?? )

CR (here from Rennteam) has a helicopter pilot license, maybe he can tell me how much it was. Smiley

Celebrating 11,500 flight hours...

… with a photo taken fresh this morning with my 6S ;-)

My first flight in a B2 Ecureuil helicopter took place near St. Moritz, Switzerland on a June day with perfect flying weather. Little did I know that this one flight would change my life forever and lead to a career that now spans several decades. All I had at the time was a crazy dream and my beautiful wife :)

Over the years flying has become a love affair, one that I will continue as long as I possibly can! Now it is time to take out the RS...

Enmanuel, thank you for your food recommendations! I will check them out at my next opportunity ;-)

We celebrated our wedding anniversary this weekend!

Prowling the dark city streets in a GT3 never gets old. Add in the love of your life and you never look back... which is futile anyway in an RS. smiley

Downtown LA early morning is so empty and beautiful. Just the perfect setting for a fun photo shoot...

...where we had coffee and fresh waffles at Blue Bottle Coffee to warm up. A blanket of fog still covered the area but we had fun with the photos anyways...I love the reflections on the RS and the curvy lines ;-)

The Los Angeles City Hall is like the "icing" on the cake and served well as a perfect backdrop for what we wanted to do! Like vantagesc said, the historic parts of LA are finding new life and getting revived.

@Gnil: We got up very early to catch the sunrise and it was well worth it driving through patches of fog on empty highways ;-). Later we celebrated at the Ritz and finished with a fine Sushi dinner. Afterwards we saw the new movie with Tom Hanks, "Inferno," which we enjoyed a lot.

@Joost: Mrs. Pilot says thank you! We had a blast that day and were so tired when we got home just before midnight.

Ah...Inferno...my wife tries to get me into this movie for over two weeks now. I watched the first two parts with her and enjoyed them a lot but I've been with the kids to Dr. Strange and Suicide Squad lately and now I just don't find the time (or energy) to go to the cinema again. We always watch our cinema movies in English in Munich, so we have to drive quite a lot to get there. Local cinemas in the region I live in are too small to offer movies in English (most foreign movies in Germany are dubbed) and that cinema in Munich also offers a wonderful Dolby Atmos sound. The popcorn there is also the best in Bavaria. indecision

I remember going to the movies in LA once, that particular movie was at a cinema around 20 mi from our hotel and I thought we can do it in half an hour or so. LA rush hour...didn't count that in...took us over 3(!) hours to get there and we had to watch a different movie. mail
