Washing my side mirror away

Today I took my 997S Cab after a month and 3,500km for the first time through a carwash (I know, I know...). My car was centered almost perfectly (maybe 1-2cm too close to the left side). At first pass of the roll I heard a crack and my right mirror was ripped from the anchorage. My dealer has ordered and will paint a new one.
The gas station's insurance will pay for it but it's a hassle. Neither they nor my Porsche dealer have heard anything like that before. Very strange.

So.... lesson learned?

Go to www.griotsgarage.com and spend $300 like the rest of us did... baby your baby! Ok enough scolding, seriously, check out the washing info in the thread "wash 997s" , don't know how to direct you to it, but there is great info from Stradale and Boss69. Good luck

that's why i will NEVER EVER take my car through an automated wash, leaves swirl marks in your paint too

Strange indeed, I tend to avoid automatic garage wash personally, I've heard the brushes actually scratches the paint.
What I use when in a hurry is the high pressure spray available at petrol stations in the UK, you pay Pounds5 and you get like a mini program where it starts with soap warm water, then just water etc etc etc...
It's fast and does the job rather well.
Most of the time, I'll be driving the car anyway!

not washing it.
It's strange but I kinda like a dirty looking high end sports car, means it's been used!!!

I agree, going through a wash tunnel is the worse thing to do for any car. One time is enough to damage the painting and it is too risky for some parts of the car. The last time I did so was a few years ago with my little Audi A2. Two weeks after delivery, I went through a tunnel and not only I found little marks on the black metal painting but also my rear bumper was completely destroyed. Around CHF 2000.- to pay for repair

I noticed that many dealers have a wash tunnel they are using to clean their customer cars here. On my side, I clearly asked my dealer to never do so as far as my own car is concerned.

Same thing happened to my 987, although I wasnt daft enough to put it through a car wash

. Just folding it back when it was parked on the road and the anchorage just came apart! Fixed by dealer and all fine now though
