    BMW XM

Excited to share that since October 2023, I've been the proud owner of a BMW XM! Here are a few snaps to give you a glimpse. Loving every moment behind the wheel!c23b3824-f030-4ac6-9465-889f04431ec0.jpeg

Are the black BMW wheel centers standard?  That’s quite the change from the usual white and blue spinner motif.

    Re: BMW XM

I think that is only for the XM model.

The XM is sort of minimalist when it comes to badging, it's an interesting move.

Congrats Aldo, this should look very good parked next to the upcoming Roma Smiley

    Re: BMW XM

    Thanks!

The XM is quite a sizable vehicle, tipping the scales at 2,800 kg, yet its heft is hardly noticeable. The V8 engine is simply sublime.

Its hybrid setup, bolstered by a 190 hp electric motor, delivers acceleration on par with that of a sports car.

If there's one aspect I'd tweak, it would be the suspension. It feels a bit too rigid for my taste. I'd lean towards an air suspension for a more refined ride.

    Congrats, very nice toy.

Also congrats for getting the Roma convertible, this is really a very nice choice. Smiley

Indeed, we're all on the same journey of getting older.

And about the ride, absolutely, there's no point in a 3-ton SUV pretending to be a sports car with an unnecessarily stiff suspension. Comfort over pretense, always.

    Great to hear from you!

Actually, I prefer taking the TGV from Karlsruhe to Paris and then rely on the metro, taxis, or simply walking around the city.

Congratulations. I must admit I am not mad about it s outside look, but it is an impressive car. The inside looks like a high end luxury sedan. The roof insulation / deco a sculpture .
How do you define this car ?

Besides behemoth?  The XM is even large on U.S. roads, which is amazing, considering the size of many domestic SUVs and pickup trucks. Besides being able to tout, “Mine is bigger than yours” I fail to comprehend why so many of these beasts are owned by households. However, I can appreciate the interior of this vehicle because it is unique and in some ways harkens back to the days of earlier motoring with separate compartments for the chauffeur and the driven. There is something Edwardian about it as well Brutalist as well as futuristic in a Mad Max dystopian image.

The XM is an awe-inspiring vehicle. The combination of the V8 engine with the electric motor is sheer brilliance. I'm not certain if there are many V8 hybrid SUVs out there. Initially, I had to get used to accelerating from traffic lights without causing my passenger to jerk back abruptly.

There's always room for debate over design, but I personally see this car as a sculpture. Its angular exterior design combined with the leather and carbon fiber interior is stunning. The leather is a vintage brown, which beautifully complements the lighter shades of leather.

The second-row seating is styled like a lounge, offering a comfortable nook to relax and easily communicate with your seatmate.

The trunk is quite spacious, albeit a bit high, likely to accommodate the 30kWh battery.

I was somewhat apprehensive about negative reactions in the city but have been pleasantly surprised by the numerous thumbs-up and curious inquiries about the car, with many even wanting to take photos of it.

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied and happy with the vehicle. As mentioned before, I'd prefer air suspension. The current stiff setup seems unnecessary to me.

But kudos to BMW for daring to launch such a car in 2023.

    Re: BMW XM

Outside of the Z4 and the new 5 series, there isn't a pretty BMW right now in their current lineup, every car seems like the designer was trying way to hard to put in 'design cues'. Or they took a sneeze when drawing a line and forgot to correct those lines.

The XM looks good on paper for the spec, the interior is top notch also, it just need a completely new front end, a heavily reworked back end, and a different side profile and it will be fine.

It is a different product. I understand it better with your comments.  BMW does sometimes dare to try something different. They outside will need time to get used to, the inside is an instant ''woaw'' .

You think?  Here’s an article on the new M5 and its near 1,000 pound weight gain over the outgoing F90 variant.  https://www.motor1.com/news/709142/2025-bmw-m5-weight/  Currently, news in the States has focused on the highway safety barriers and how the new vehicles weigh too much for these safety systems to remain effective.  Instead of focusing on reducing vehicle weight and material usage, save the planet, they are fixated on making larger and larger barriers, again consuming more materials.  What ever happened to resource conservation and efforts to fight weight?

    Exactly.

    Re: BMW XM

I looked up the weight of the original M5, not sure if the weight I found was dry or with fluids, but it was a positively dainty 3,200 pounds or 1,454 kilograms! I know that safety systems and luxury features have added weight but this is beyond ridiculous.  I recall 20 years ago when many in the Audi community were upset that Audi sedans were around a bloated 2,000 kilograms.
