    Finally bought it....

After many good comments from this forum and a few friends I decided to buy the black boxster with sand beige leather - see my previous post - http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=128478&an=0&page=0#128478

I will go to pick it up on Sunday - yes in Taiwan this is 7 /7 open and I even managed to get a license plate with a nice 987 number in it...

The car is new and of course once I pick it up I will check it carefully, mileage, stonechips, etc..but is there something I should pay special attention to ?

Note that here we have 4 years Warranty and they come to pick up the car at your place for repairs, so at least I will be in good hands in case of problems... and my insurance covers typhoons, and earthquakes..unfortunately things which happen quite often here too.

Last but not least I negotiated to get a free access to the next Porsche event...Will be in november and 7 guys will come from Porsche HQ to introduce us the new models and give us a few driving lessons...curious to see how it will be...
Am I the only one here in Taiwan ? Hopefully not and I can meet some other Rennteam member there...

Will post updated pictures once I get it...and I am done driving...

    Re: Finally bought it....

    Congrats on your new car.
I just have mine for almost 2 months. You will be very impressed when you drive it and own it.
How come we need to pay few thousands bucks to attend the driving lessons and drop off our cars to service all the time?

    Re: Finally bought it....

    CS,

In fact in Taiwan service is key...Sales people will do all your paper work, negotiate the insurance contract, get your license plate, etc...Service is everything in Asia. You pay the car and everything comes automatically...

Now of course the negative are the import and sales tax, which makes the Boxster S MSRP at around 120kUS$. Even Taiwan is now part of the WTO this is still a totally protected market...Hopefully income tax is low...

For sure I am very excited, and counting the hours until Sunday...

    Re: Finally bought it....

Taiwan's price is more expensive than in Hong Kong. In HK, it is around 100K.
For $120K, we can get a GT2? or the Turbo 997
Here we get a loaner car when you drop it off. (Free gas, no millege limited) Planing to go to Las Vegas next time I drop off the car.

    Re: Finally bought it....

Yeah I know, it is really really bad. We get 25% import tax, and 35% tax on cars over 2.0 liters. Then add another 5% sales tax... and of course higher margins for the local dealers.
Hopefully the resale value is quite good, so when I leave the island in 2,3 years I will be able to get something decent for it...I am Swiss, and compared to the swiss price it is almost 70% higher...

but of course...driving a Boxster in Taiwan many mountain roads...is priceless...

I cant sleep and keep watching Porsche forums and websites...is that a normal PPO syndrome ? (Porsche Pre Ownership Syndrome ? )

Yes absolutley & once you get your car you will still come back with more questions & comments, I waited six months for my black x 3 car & in last month almost posted questions like I already had the dream ,sorry car. Today after filling up in local service station came out to find a bunch of kids/teenagers taking pictures of my car with their mobile phone cameras & a mother comment how lucky I am!! All you can do is smile give a blip (what a sound) & resist the temptation to scream off.

    Re: Finally bought it....

You do not know what you are in for.

I got all black also, you've probably seen the pics of the car, but put up pics of yours when you get it!!

    Re: Finally bought it....

Congrats I look forward to the pics.

    Re: Finally bought it....

    Congratulations!

Done driving??? I'm not holding my breath then.

    Re: Finally bought it....

    Yes, just done driving and...

The noise of the engine is fantastic, just keep slowing down and reaccelerating to hear it...
Then some reactions of just a few hours driving, and 30 mins of traffic jams on the Taiwanese highways...
Need to say that my daily drive is an Alfa 156 2.0 Selespeed (Sequential gear box) with 160 hp...not much but the twin spark Alfa engine is quite nervous...

Noise...who says you need a radio ? Kept turning the volume down to hear the engine.
Maniability is really great, direction is very accurate, ride is hard but ok. For sure on TWN roads time to time you get quite shaken.
Power is more than enough and for sure a big step up from the Alfa.
Maybe the only little let down compared to the Alfa is that I feel less in contact with the road. With Alfa you really feel how the car is doing, when you are going to loose contact..Here with the Box at times I felt like I was on rails.. I think I just need to know the car more and get used to it.
Brakes are really nice...softer than the Alfa at first, but once you press you get really an amazing stopping power.

My only other gripe is of course the Tip...but ok no choice as in TWN we have traffic jams and no one knows how to drive a stick here, so no way to resell it with manual. Compared with a sequential gear box it is really giving you the feeling you are on some "jelly"...I feel it is also a little slow but I did not try the sport mode yet, so maybe it will improve things.
For sure I advise people to take the Tip only if they have no choice like in my case. And I hope one day Porsche will make us a good sequential 6 speed gear box.

So in conclusion it is fantastic and as soon as I have less job pressure, I will go south drive it in the mountains and
    coastal roads...will be awesome.

    Happy new Porsche owner here...

And In november we have 7 guys coming from Germany to demonstate the Cayman and give us some training lessons..looking forward to it.

Pictures coming once I am done driving...be patient...it is already 2 AM here...

    Maxime

    Re: Finally bought it....

Congrats! I think you made the right choice. I'd still probably be driving it, even at 2AM. I can't wait for the pics.

    Re: Finally bought it....

Congratulations! 6 months and 6,000 miles on I still get a thrill every time I get in my car. I wish you many happy safe miles in your new baby.

    Re: Finally bought it....

First picture...took it Tuesday just before the Typhoon arrived in Taiwan...since then the Box has been safely kept in the garage...even I have the typhoon insurance it is too early to use it now..

Also first little problem. The rear left brake light already stopped working. No big deal, but the info system warns you about it every time you start the car, a little annoying. Hopefully this is covered under warranty, just need to go back to Taipei to get it fixed...

    Maxime

    Re: Finally bought it....

Take that picture again with a higher resolution camera!

    Re: Finally bought it....

    Nice license plate
I would assume the break light is covered under warranty.

I doubt it if it is only a bulb failure as that is normally excluded, but haven't checked the T's and C's on that one. I would still expect a freebie from the dealer as goodwill, though.

    Re: Finally bought it....

    Uh.. brake light, that is.

    Re: Finally bought it....

Yes it is covered under warranty here. In Taiwan we have 4 years warranty, car pick up, etc...service is great but we pay our car around 70% more than in Europe so at the end it is not really a good deal.

Still no time to take better pictures, we had typhoon and lot of rain so was not ideal...hopefully this week...

Car getting better everyday I drive it, very addictive...
