    OFFICIAL: Taycan 2024 Facelift

    Porsche has given the Taycan a particularly extensive update. The new versions have more power, more range, accelerate quicker and charge faster with greater stability. Style Porsche has also sharpened the design and more strongly differentiated the Turbo models. All Taycan versions feature an even more extensive standard equipment list and come with the latest generation of the Porsche Driver Experience with an improved display and control concept.

    All three body variants will feature the numerous modifications from the date of launch – the Taycan sports sedan, the versatile Taycan Cross Turismo, which is available with an off-road package, and the sporting-yet-practical Taycan Sport Turismo. In each case, four powertrain options are available, with rear- and all-wheel drive variants. The revised versions will arrive at Porsche Centres from the spring of 2024.

    On the path to series production, development engineers and test drivers in camouflaged test cars have covered more than 3.6 million kilometres around the world to keep improving the first all-electric sports car from Porsche. The sports car manufacturer has produced almost 150,000 examples of the Taycan. The most important individual markets for the Taycan are currently the US, the UK, Germany and China.

    “We ushered in the new era of e-mobility with the Taycan at the end of 2019. It immediately proved to be a game changer and innovative pioneer in the e-vehicle segment,” says head of the model line, Kevin Giek. “We are now continuing this success story with the extensively updated Taycan. The model line has reached new heights in terms of performance, with exceptional driving dynamics and driving pleasure. At the same time, we were able to significantly improve efficiency, range, day-to-day usability and comfort.”

    Even higher performance
    All updated models accelerate much faster than their predecessors. Two examples from both ends of the portfolio: as sports sedans, the Taycan and Taycan Turbo S reach the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in just 4.8 and 2.4 seconds respectively. This makes them 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors.

    With the new push-to-pass function in the Sport Chrono package, a boost of up to 70 kW, depending on the model, can be called upon for 10 seconds at the touch of a button. The increased acceleration rates are generally the result of higher system output. For example, the base Taycan delivers 60 kW more than before. In the Taycan Turbo S, it’s an additional 140 kW with Launch Control. This increases the system output of the top model to 700 kW/952 PS.

    More than 35 per cent more range compared to the predecessor
    Depending on the body variant and engine, the WLTP range has increased to up to 678 km, an increase of 175 km or 35 per cent. The updated Taycan not only requires fewer charging stops on long trips than its predecessor, but it also recharges faster: at 800-volt DC charging stations, for example, it can be charged at up to 320 kW. That’s 50 kW more than before. The fast-charging window of the new performance battery has been significantly expanded. This means that charging capacities of more than 300 kW can be sustained for up to five minutes, and very high charging capacities can be achieved more quickly, even at low temperatures.

    Depending on an individual’s driving style, among other variables, this can halve the time required to go from a 10 to an 80 per cent charge compared to the predecessor car. In the first-generation Taycan, the charging time from 10 to 80 per cent SOC at 15 degrees Celsius is 37 minutes. Under the same conditions, the updated Taycan takes just 18 minutes despite its larger battery capacity. The Performance Battery Plus now has a gross capacity of 105 kWh, increased from 93 kWh.

    New active chassis
    All updated Taycan models come with adaptive air suspension as standard. The new Porsche Active Ride suspension can be ordered as an option for the all-wheel drive versions. This system offers an unprecedented bandwidth between driving comfort and driving dynamics.

    The suspension keeps the body of the Taycan level at all times, even during dynamic braking, steering and acceleration manoeuvres. With a smooth ride, the system absorbs bumps almost completely. In dynamic driving situations, the Porsche Active Ride suspension ensures an almost perfect connection to the road thanks to a balanced distribution of wheel loads. If the appropriate mode is activated, the suspension can compensate for pitching and rolling motions in order to reduce the acceleration forces acting on the occupants.

    Extensive efficiency measures
    The simultaneous improvement of performance and efficiency is down to a number of factors: an advanced powertrain with a new rear-axle motor with up to 80 kW more power than its predecessor on all models, a modified pulse inverter with optimised software, more powerful batteries, revised thermal management, a next-generation heat pump and a modified recuperation and all-wheel-drive strategy.

    The maximum recuperation capacity during deceleration from high speeds has increased by more than 30 per cent from 290 to up to 400 kW. All variants now come as standard with aerodynamically optimised wheels and reduced-rolling-resistance tyres. New 21-inch wheels and tyres were specially developed for this purpose.

    Significantly improved equipment with less weight
    Although the models weigh up to 15 kilograms less, the standard equipment is even more extensive than before. Ambient lighting, ParkAssist with reversing camera, electrically folding exterior mirrors with mirror surround lighting, heated front seats, Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), heat pump with a new cooling system, smartphone tray for wireless charging, electric charging ports on the driver and front passenger sides, Drive Mode switch and Power Steering Plus are all now standard features.

    The Taycan base models are now also equipped with adaptive air suspension and aluminium door sill protectors as standard. In addition to the upgraded equipment, the improved product specification includes a battery with increased capacity but with a reduced weight.

    Even more attractive design
    With new front- and rear-end styling with new headlights and tail lights, the experts at Style Porsche have further honed the clean, purist design of the Taycan. The new front wings and the flatter headlights give even greater emphasis to the width of the Taycan.

    The new headlights feature high-resolution HD matrix technology with detailed optics and now display the brand’s characteristic four-point graphics at night. The Porsche logo in the rear light strip features a three-dimensional, glass-look design. An illuminated version of this is available for the first time, featuring welcome/leaving animations.

    Among other notable features, the accent colour Turbonite makes the Turbo and Turbo S models stand out more distinctively from the other versions in both the exterior and interior.

    Updated control and display concept
    The instrument cluster, central display and optional passenger display feature an optimised user interface with additional functions. The mode switch on the steering wheel now comes as standard. For Taycan models equipped with the Sport Chrono package and the Performance Battery Plus, there is a special push-to-pass button on the mode switch.

    Using the new control lever on the left behind the steering wheel, control of the driver assistance systems is even more intuitive. Apple CarPlay has been more deeply integrated into the vehicle displays and functions. The new In-Car Video function enables video streaming on the central display and the passenger display.

    If you only look at the acceleration figures, it is not worth the price.  However, when looking at the entire package versus the Model S Plaid, the answer is a definitive yes.

    Taycan quality is years ahead of the (current) Model S, no doubt and the new chassis tech is also impressive but over 100k EUR more? I don't know. I guess the typical Turbo S customer won't mind but for ME, the Taycan Turbo S is out of reach and I really like this car. Smiley

    That is actually the wrong question to ask.

    It should be is the Taycan turbo S worth 80k euro more than the Taycan 4S.

    What you did was like comparing a Ghost vs a Camry V6. They offered similar performance but a big price gap, completely different segment. 

    When consumers are considering a Porsche Taycan turbo S, they are shopping in that price bracket. They aren't going down to the bottom of the ladder to check 'comparables'. 

    Tesla isn't a luxury brand, it's a mass market brand, targeting mass market customers. 

    For potential buyers of a Model S Plaid, they would be like cool, the Plaid is amazing at 0-60 for a couple times in a row, but err, the fit and finish, the materials used, aren't worthy of a 100k price tag, it's more akin to a 50-60k car. 100k and I don't even get air suspension? No stitching? No boutique leather? Where is my wood veneers? Where is my real carbon fibre trims? Where is my alcantara? Where is my bespoke-ness? Where did my money go? Tesla is saving money by using cheap low quality plastic and other cost cutting measures, so where is my savings? Why is the car still so expensive when Tesla didn't put na extra cent into making one?

    I like to compare performance as well and I do not like it to have to pay a substantial premium just for a better interior and maybe a few seconds improvement on the track. I get it, it is a very nice car (Taycan) but I do not see the 100k EUR premium justified anywhere. Yes, the difference between the 4 S (which is already a fast car) and the Turbo S is huge but I think that when you compare the performance, the difference could be justifyable. 

    Btw: I am pretty sure that with a facelift (or maybe next gen?), the Model S will narrow the (quality) gap between the Plaid and the Turbo S. Look what Tesla has done with the facelifted Model 3. My son always hated Tesla for the poor quality impression but he looked closely at the new Model 3 and he was very surprised how refined the new one is. 

    Yes, I wish Tesla would offer more individualization options but for now, it is a very good offer for the price, especially the Long Range model.

    Also, to be honest...I like the headlight design of the "old" Taycan more.

    Used Taycan Turbo S have a huge depreciation here in Germany, so I guess it isn't the best idea to buy one. Leases will be expensive though.

    If we want to bring performance into the price discussion, I think the better value would be a BMW M5. Slightly slower from stop lights but it corners so much harder, plus everyone sits in comfort inside the car and the quality are light years ahead, for basically the same price. About the same size too, so pretty much in the same bracket no matter how one wants to divide. 

    Suspension wise, the Germans have no peers. Doesn't matter the brand. American car makers think stiff springs means sporty, and neglect the rest of the category. Going over one speed bump and the difference is night and day. Any American car will osicilate to no end after the bump, while any German cars going over the same bump will mean one thud, then the body basically settle down and no more oscillation after, doesn't matter if it's a super stiff GT2RS or the luxury cruiser Panamera, the result is the same. Mercedes are especially good on the comfort side, even their AMG models. 

    I get it, some people gets their socks off going from stoplight to stoplight, that's their attraction to Teslas, especially the Plaid.

    For basically the last 10 years, the 918 is pretty much the king of 0-60. And 911 turbo Ss are not far behind. Among all my cars, I can count with both hands the total number of time I went for it from a stoplight, or a drag strip in all of them. But I lost count on how many times I take a corner at 0.8g and above on the street, as that's where the real fun is. That last point is something no Tesla can do safely. It takes real skills to go around corners fast, but any monkey can mindlessly mash the throttle on a stoplight, zero skill involved, the cars' computer take cared of everything needed. 

    You live in Germany, with easy access to the Autobahn, so that top end is super important. Any Tesla will drain their batteries in no time cruising at top speed, so that means if you actually want to go somewhere, you be putting along at 100-120km/hr while everyone else fly by at 200km/hr+. I just don't see you being that disciplined to not go fast.

    The Plaid does have an air suspension. It also has tons of features and functions the Porsche will never even be able to offer. Like everything from dog mode to a charging network. Their manufacturing is on another level at this point with th into of the new model3.  
    The ability to go fast in a straight line has always been the most import and expensive asset people looked for. Kinda nuts to argue amongst us the now going around corners is the most important thing. Especially once you realize that a little model3 can run circles around an M3 or 911 in the corners. Perfect weight distribution and low mass can’t be beat. But the fact is you can use the straight line dead silent acceleration all the time and never attract attention. Its t is also super useful. Going around corners fast is not only reckless and more dangerous, especially in the context of getting 100% out of a Taycan but it will get you arrested right away. I’m not into that. 
    I passed on the plaid because it is using old battery tech. Next one will be perfect. My old model 3 now has 70k miles and still no repairs, or and rattles. Runs as fast as the first day. Quicker actually since I have had two free performance updates. 
    Will order the new model3 performance when it is for sale in a few weeks. Unlike a gt3, it is not vapor ware. 
    Also, Cybertruck is on order.

    in case you haven't noticed, Police do their speed checks on straights, not corners, going fast in a straight line is an easy ticket to get ticketed or arrested. That's more reckless than going around corner fast. It take skills to do that and most Tesla drivers aren't skilled enough so they won't even attempt. 

    Btw, last night I drove from the city up to Whistler, was in my Wrangler. A Model 3 was annoyed that I wasn't going fast in the straights, I was doing maybe 10 over, jsut a nice easy drive. He blew by me on the straights, made nothing of it but I then noticed he goes really slow around corners, like 10-20 under. What do I do? I passed him in one of the corners, in the Wrangler, and then with a few more corners up ahead I pulled out a sizeable gap, all that without basically speeding. Of course he then got on my tail again in no time in the up coming straight, and passed me again but of course corners appeared again and he was gone the other way. This happened once more and he finally gave up, stayed behind me in the lowly Jeep that out cornered him without trying and I keep losing him in the corners the rest of the way. Funny thing is, I never raised my speed to try and stay ahead, I was just, driving normally, actually slightly slower than normal as we have our dog with us and it's her first time on a long road trip. 

    You are one of the lucky few that's able to install charger at your own garage and be able to charge at home, you are not the norm, you are the exception, millions others don't have such luxury, they depend on public charging if they are to get a EV. Don't take your one own wonderful experience and apply that to everyone. There are plenty of disgruntled Tesla owners also. You may think a Tesla is your perfect car, we don't disagree with you on that, we can see a Tesla fits your situation, but a Tesla may not be THAT car for everyone.

    I stopped driving fast in a straight line in the city for a while now, will only do it on the track.

    but when I hit a corner, that's where the fun begins!

    yesterday, I went to Richmond center (a local big mall).  There was a line of Tesla chargers outside of the Bay, fully occupied.  Then there were other Tesla lining up, waiting to be charged.  I thought to myself - what a total waste of time.  I then fill up my car in the gas station, took less than 5 minutes.  

    I do not think electric cars are our future.  I don't have one, don't plan to get one.  Maybe a hybrid later just for fun.  Gas price never bother me. 

    if people think they are so environmentally friendly by driving EV, they should stop flying and cruising.

    when EVs get old, they will create a lot of garbage for the world.  None of my friends paid to own them, all just lease, as we all know they are worthless when old.

    There are 20 'fast' chargers there. And yes, it is a waste of time. And money. For the time it takes to charge up 1 car, you can see a couple patients, so that's your time cost for charging, not even counting the waiting time, which could mean another couple billable patients more, the money adds up. 

    I do not think electric cars are our future.  I don't have one, don't plan to get one.  Maybe a hybrid later just for fun.  Gas price never bother me. 

    You lucky your kids are grown up and you don't have to drive them to school. I do and I NEED that HOV sticker to get past traffic to not waste time. Again, time cost. 15-20 mins a time do add up.

    None of my concern. All I care is the governmental benefits. If that stop, I will stop also. I PAID my taxes, I needed to get my money's worth of benefits. 

    Even if you don't WANT to buy a EV, still buy one for trade in for your next car, the tax credit is too big to ignore. You only pay 5% sales tax for a used EV that's only good for trade in, but that same EV is good for 26% the other way, well 21% in reality as the GST can't be skipped. AND you can buy multiple EVs to trade to make up the whole purchase price. Can't skip the Federal luxury tax however.

    More like complete shortsightedness of governmental bureaucrats. Or stupid governmental legislation.

    We have a new federal luxury tax, not just on cars above $100,000 but also on planes above $250,000, but not of boats, because, well, politicians buy and own boats and certainly they don't want that tax to apply to them. It's the lesser of 10% of the total price or 20% of the amount over $100k.

    There is 5% GST (Goods and Services Tax) also at the federal level, which applies to provinces that don't pay HST (Harmonized Sales Tax, for provinces that don't mine combining their local tax with the federal one and submit everything to the federal government and then get rebated back at a later date).

    For provinces that don't do HST, they have a local Provincial Sales Tax, PST. In our province, 7% under $55,000, 8% for under $56,000, 9% for under $57,000, and 10% for under $125,000, 15% for under $150,000 and 20% for over. These are compounded with GST, hence the top rate is 26% not 25%.

    So for our province there are 3 taxes, federal luxury+GST+PST.

    New EVs under $55,000 gets $4,000 tax rebate, EV SUV up to $70,000 at the provincial level, with another $5,000 for cars under $55,000 at the federal level. 

    For used EVs, the province waived the PST, so one only pay the 5% GST. To 'encourage' EV purchases. 

    Now you see why us wanted to take advantage of government policies.

    Sorry but I often have a hard time understanding Harry and his car choices/opinions.
    Why would I get a slow and boring Diesel when I can get a fantastic V8 instead? Makes no sense to me.
    I mean c'mon, a Range Rover with a low powered Diesel engine? This is no fun. Yes, it may be cheap on the fuel pump but otherwise, absolutely boring.

    Why would I get a slow and boring Diesel when I can get a fantastic V8 instead? Makes no sense to me.
    I mean c'mon, a Range Rover with a low powered Diesel engine? This is no fun. Yes, it may be cheap on the fuel pump but otherwise, absolutely boring. 

    With his car collection, why does he need a more powerful vehicle for errands around the farm and town?  To him, and others, it is the rightsizing of the tool for the job.

    Going fast in a straight line is reckless because you might get a ticket? To me reckless means endangering others around me or myself.  
    lone Tesla driver goes slower in corners than your Jeep so you are certain your Jeep corners better. This kinds colors the rest of your options. I suspect you might be bias. lol.

    You get your socks off going fast in a straight line, cool. A good portion of the population thinks the Earth is flat also.

    All these years driving that road, I have yet to see a Tesla driver take those corner at decent speed, so could it be that all Tesla drivers are shitty drivers? Or it's just a shitty car that can't do corners?

    The highway is 80km/hr speed limit, all the corners can be taken at 80km/hr in anything, sports cars, pickups and even delivery lorry, it's only Teslas that can't take those corners at 80km/hr.

    There are speed cameras everywhere here now including many motorways. As an example the journey to my nearest Ferrari dealer, who is just over an hour away, involves me travelling through well over 40 speed cameras. It is just insane.

    The area around where Harry lives has 50 MPH (80 KMPH)  limits on many roads and is congested in the summer with tourists. There is just very little chance to use the power of a V8 petrol in a daily car like this and it gets very tiring constantly filling it up with fuel due to the low MPG when you aren't able to utilise that performance daily. The diesel is by far the better real world option for his intended usage. When you factor in the much lower finance costs on top it is not exactly a difficult choice. He gets to drive so many other performance cars each year carrying out his reviews and he usually has the use of them for a week or more at a time so he is not exactly short changing himself in the fun driving department.

    There are speed cameras everywhere here now including many motorways. As an example the journey to my nearest Ferrari dealer, who is just over an hour away, involves me travelling through well over 40 speed cameras. It is just insane.

    The area around where Harry lives has 50 MPH (80 KMPH)  limits on many roads and is congested in the summer with tourists. There is just very little chance to use the power of a V8 petrol in a daily car like this and it gets very tiring constantly filling it up with fuel due to the low MPG when you aren't able to utilise that performance daily. The diesel is by far the better real world option for his intended usage. When you factor in the much lower finance costs on top it is not exactly a difficult choice. He gets to drive so many other performance cars each year carrying out his reviews and he usually has the use of them for a week or more at a time so he is not exactly short changing himself in the fun driving department.

    Other than the Autobahn, which I seldom use, our speed limit is between 30 kph and 100 kph. Smiley

    Is the new Taycan GT now faster than all other ICE Porsche GT cars ??

    Not sure this strategy makes sense for Porsche.
