We thought about visiting the show. But after the Franschhoek Motor Museum (http://www.fmm.co.za) last month we decided not to go. Maybe we were wrong ...
apias:These cars possess a beauty and elegance that is so completely absent from almost all cars today.
Yup, chrome bumpers that are not well integrated with the overall design and tiny wheel-to-body proportion and disfunctional interior design and etc.
Thanks for great pictures
I know Arthur Bechtle for many years. His cars are immaculate and for sure top notch restored. BUT - those cars have features the original car never heard. In example he paints the inside of the bumpers to protect them from rust. Makes sense, but it is not original. He uses colors which haven't been available. The leather interior and the amount of wrapped parts is going far above what Mercedes ever built.
I know that most cars are restored for the foreign market, especially for China (hence it is legal now to import cars). They are asking for this kind of quality. And yes - it might not be a huge effort to go the extra mile, but it is just not original anymore. So I'm against this kind of heritage prevention.
I got a free ticket as part of Pistonheads Sunday Service .. it was busy but not crowded. And you could get right close to the cars.
I agree AB car is 'over' restored, as is the Ferrari convertible .. but at least they have the classic look and are completely usable
the 'original' OEM everything car is a different market completely.
