However, 550hp is nearly impossible: A 997TT with 550hp would be quicker to 300 km/h than the Carrera GT. Porsche would never do that.

Logical line of thought except that the CGT is a deadend production, and there's plenty of opportunity for lots of profit with a stock/production supercar (997TTS) that beats everything else out there. Still, I'm betting 525HP.

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

As in regards to orders....It's the same over here as in Germany.... no deposit, but a pre contract between the client and the dealer ( not Porsche) that puts you 'on the list'... This is only done with good clients, or if one insists enough.. Otherwise they tell you to come back when official ordering beginns

When a car has 480 HP, would one even feel the 35 extra HP? I'd hope it's more. Or maybe just a cheaper price.

It would likely depend on what they did with the extra ponies (different impeller/turbo geometry like K16's vs. K24's, more efficient intercooler, bigger intakes, tweaks to the ECU to produce more torque at certain engine revs. . . .). Plus I don't know much about the variable geometry turbo device. But even with the 996TT, Porsche could get 600HP out of that car without major engine mods.-RUF and EVO do this in the US-but it would mean a tighter profit margin due to the slight increase in production costs and the slight increase in malfunction (especially with the challenge of maintaining proper cooling) with consequent increase in warranty claims-so the "safer" route is to keep the engine power/torque/turbo induction psi #'s well below those limits.

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

    phenomenal.

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

Latest rumor indicated 520 HP. 525 HP could be possible too. Top speed should be in the 325 kph range due to a possible shorter 6th gear compared to the 997 Turbo.
997 Turbo (480 HP) top speed is rumored to be 320 kph.
Although the top speed of the 997 Turbo S isn't much higher, the acceleration should be phenomenal.

    3700lbs.

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

Forgive me if this is already public information, but is the new 997 turbo going to use the GT1 crankcase or the "flat" bottom crankcase from the 997 N/A engines?

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

where does the extra 195 lbs come from ???

    Stradale,

I'm even more out in the deep end than all you guys: I've got a deposit with my dealer-#3 in line for any 997TT they assemble in Zuffenhausen (TCoupe, TSCoupe, TCab, TSCab, GT2. . .), and I'm still trying to hold out for the TSCab. Thank God I have a 996TSCab to pacify me. Doesn't make the wait any shorter, though. . . .

You put down 5 deposits ?
I'm #1 on my dealers list for both the Turbo Cab and Turbo S cab. I put down $1000 deposits on each. Don't want a coupe.

It looks like more than 5 as he said (...GT2...). I think it means ..., GT2 Cab, GT2S, GT2S Cab.

    You've heard rumours of a GT2SCab?!?!?!?

I heard rumour of GT3 S Cab, but not your interest anyway...

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

I was hoping they would look a little different like the 996tt

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

Someone asked if you'd notice the extra 35hp on top of 480. I don't know the answer but I guess it's the same as adding an X50 pkg or going from a 996TT to a 996TS . Is that noticeable? Someone else said a 525hp TTS would be faster than a CGT. A CGT has over 600hp and weighs much less than a TTS. Sure wish Porsche would drop the 4wd on the TTS to save a couple hundred pounds.

Unfortunately, the CGT is an underperformer at higher speeds. The car is slower than one would expect (for whatever reason). Tuned 996TT with around 550hp are about 5-6 seconds faster than the CGT...

It has to do with aerodynamics. The CGT has enormous amounts of downforce, which is why it takes it about 8-10 seconds more to reach 300 km/h than one would assume. It is however a superior performer when it comes to high speed turns. Where the Enzo and the Murc would hit the railing and crash, the CGT stays on its tracks and keeps on going.

    Regarding the 997TTS:

If it really gets 525 HP it will be awesome. My next car hopefully...

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

I have some issues with my 997S Cab and was talking with someone in the know....He said the Turbo will come out at 525hp and the S will be out the next year with more.
We are a year and a half away from the 997S TT.

Guys, the first time the 480 HP figure has been published, it was HERE on Rennteam.com by one of our moderators.
Since then, I didn't find ONE official Porsche source to deny this figure and I'm not talking about saying "maybe" or whatever. Oh, most of these sources had a big grin on their face. 525 HP for the base Turbo version would be great...and a VERY STUPID thing to do. A 480 HP Turbo can easily keep up with the F430, no need to give too much power away for free I'm afraid.
So yes, there will be a Turbo S and there will be a GT2.
It is not a matter of "IF" but a matter of "WHEN".
And to make sure I'm not too late, I ordered a Turbo S now.
If it comes one year later than I think it is coming, I don't care. But I want it.

    Re: 997 Turbo S ordered

The question is not how much Turbo S will beat the F430... but if it will smash the Carrera GT too

I am gonna order one too RC - once I see the spec and options

He was probably alluding to the RUF models. (Actually, the RUF "997TT" is available now as three model variants):
Rt 12 Turbo 05 with the following power/torque specs.:
    1. 530bhp/750Nm
    2. 560bhp/790Nm
    3. 650bhp/870Nm
I know Excellence mag reviewed it in their latest issue. Has anyone had a chance to drive one?

And you're basing your claim on...? Porsche WILL release the Turbo S. The question now is only how many HP it will have.

I don't trust him either. This is pure conjecture, but perhaps it's a dealer who wants him to get the base turbo rather than hold out for the "S"?

Nonsense! The CGT's downforce isn't much more than an Enzo or a Ford Gt for that matter. http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0410_lemansintro/index4.html

It has to do with Porsche's over emphasis on the cooling system.

Btw, how can a 20 yrs. old like you afford a Turbo S?

I don't know, RC. A lot of people make their decision based on numbers... HP being one of the most important. It would be really smart for Porsche to at least match the 430 in terms of HP. That would sway a certain number of potential buyers. More HP than the 430 would sell even better.
