Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

    Not the prettiest of things.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Any clues as to what is underneath...or when it will be revealed officially?

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Officially launched at the LA Motor show.  First race will be 24 hours of Daytona.

No idea if turbo or not, but will be very surprised and disappointed if it is not.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Just watched the video clip...sounds very different from GT3 R NA engine...

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

The rear wing design with its dinghy davit looking struts will inspire another generation of Honda owners. indecision

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

It could be easily argued that what you see in the rear tail opening is one or two intercoolers. Right int he middle there is three lines which look like an intercooler core...

Certainly looks mid-engined if nothing else!

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

The rear diffusers certainly took up the room previously occupied by the rear mounted engine.

I wonder if Porsche also reverse the intake and exhaust too when they moved the engine, like mount the exhaust and turbos on top, and the intake on the bottom, the air flow underneath will certainly help cool the charge even more.

Would be interesting to see the packaging.

Also looks like the rear wing is attached below the body (goes through cut-outs).

Exhaust pipe location seems too low for that.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Just watched the video. Interesting how the car bounces when it hits bumps. I dont' see much pitching, so it looks like the weight distribution is much more even now. Vindication for us mid-engine fans :)

I wonder if the wing acts directly on the suspension instead of the body???

That's what I thought as well but that's been illegal almost everywhere since Chaparral 2E in 1966?

It even looks to me as if the rear axle has moved backward, the wheelbase seems to be longer.

Which you would expect with the engine in front of the rear axle.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Exactly. It does look remarkably different from a regular 911. because of that though. Maybe even better, but less "genuine"... ...

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

By the way, it has just been announced that Audi will withdraw from LPM1 with effect from the end of the 2016 season!

Could well be a shot in the arm for the focus on GTE, with BMW joining in 2018 as well. May be it is time for the FIA-ACO governing body to learn from the IMSA organizers in the US in terms of how to get BoP right.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Don't look at this year for a standard for BoP at FIA, they rigged the game so Ford can win.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

The new RSR came 5th in qualifying practice at the 24h Daytona race, 0.8 sec off the pace, Ford GT first, second and third, 488 was fourth.

Is this the usual sandbagging or does the car lack pace right out of the gates...? The race will hopefully give us a conclusive answer.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

For a 24hr race, it's not just speed that counts, reliability also plays a big part. See no farther than last year's Le Mans, the leading fastest Toyota didn't last the whole 24hrs.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

I really got disappointed on toyota last year. intact, reliability and strategy is very important

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Pace, consistency of pace and reliability are all key factors, plus pit stop strategy ect.

Re: Porsche RSR caught testing at Sebring

Number 911 Rsr  is leading now with 17s ahead of second place holder.

They are close, but obviously lacking speed at the long straight...

Less than 11 seconds spread between the top 6 cars after 22 hours.

I think the new RSR can be considered competitive, especially compared to last year's car. This is the first race for the new car and perhaps some tweaks can be done to close the gap even further before Le Mans.
