Do you have any intentions to get one of these cars?
The Performance Package for the 55 is something between 10k and 20k Euros, don't remember the exact price. It was presented quite a while ago and is deriven from the F1 pacecar two seasons ago!
Do you know the reason why the Maybachs are parked in France, not delivered directly from Germany? Just curious...

I especially like the ones of the SLR. I'm not a big fan of the Maybach or S Class but I have to admit it's pretty impressive seeing a whole row of limousines in line like that...that King Abdullah has way too much oil money!

Not interested in a Merc sports car no, well, it doesn't exist anyway right?
Only SLR but right now wouldn't make any sense, I travel too much.
Late King Fad of Saudi Arabia bought 10 maybachs 62 when he visited the Paris auto show and bought them on the spot. Hence the reason why they have been delivered in France.
It was impressive, they had to evacuate all the hostesses from the Merc stand because they were not tolerated!
Oh well, no big deal, for 10 Maybachs!
BTW don't know if I'm supposed to say that but now, the royal family doesn't want to take delivery bc the cars are not bulletproof, Merc fights back saying it wasn't mentionned when ordered, but now they are stuck with 10 Maybachs and they're unpaid for of course.
They're looking at a bulletproof solution but it costs a fortune!!!

I was also lucky enough see a Maybach last weekend. One of the older models ..... 1930's.
I preferred it to the current iteration.
It looked like it was meant to be driven, instead of just being a symbol of over-conspicuous consumption.

I was also lucky enough see a Maybach last weekend. One of the older models ..... 1930's.

Careful, Ferdie, you are running the risk of confirming those rumors about the German sense of humor. I wish the Maybach did belong in my garage. It'll be worth several times as much as the contents of my garage, despite one of my cars being a 996!
The driver of the Maybach (yes, it was on the road and rolling!) looked like he could almost have been the original owner.
I wouldn't qualify for that description, in case that was what you were suggesting.

Francois, I hate to rain on your parade but the SL 65 is actually a SL 55 PP with a different engine.
I almost bought a SL 55 PP when I had enough of my E55 because my dealer had one in the showroom ready to go. Sticker price: 165000 Euro. OUCH. Price for good "friends": 140000 Euro. OUCH again.
Happy me, I went with the Cayenne Turbo since I would have sold the SL55PP sooner or later.
The SL 65 AMG feels a bit "heavier" due to the heavier engine but performance is pretty similar to the SL55PP on the track. But still...no real sportscar but more of a sporty grand tourer.
The perfect car for enjoying warm weather and a nice V8/V12 growling sound but not really something you would enjoy driving around twists and turns.
It is a pitty that Mercedes AMG never built a fixed roof, 200 kg lighter SL "light" with the 65 engine.
