Anyone seen one of these messages before?

    Hello Everyone,

I am a new member and new car as well
I just picked up my 997s cab on July 23rd.
For the last few days everything has been functioning very well.
Navigation Cd arrived today, soon after I stuck the DVD in, my entire PCM has been acting up. It only stay up for a minute or two and shuts down.
As I re-start the audio or any function following error message come up

I ejected the DVD back a fourth few times, no help.
    Any suggestions or solutions?

    Thanks
    Steve

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

    never seen that before....

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

    Never saw that one.
Seems that the PCM gets too hot and disables itself. This should not happen. Even not in deathvalley. Therefore, you might just return it to the dealer and demand a replacement of the unit. The car is new, so you are in the good position to just lay back, relax and let them solve the problem...

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

Where did you stuck the DVD in ?
In the trunk or in the dashboard ?

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

Has it been particularly hot where you are?
There is a fan that can be installed in the front trunk to better cool the DVD unit, but I guess this would be for REALLY hot places.

Quote from tequipment part of the website:

"If the temperature in the luggage compartment is likely to exceed 85 *C, the functioning of the DVD drive - and thus the navigation system - may be temporarily impaired. To eliminate this risk, the luggage compartment can be fitted with a dedicated cooling system.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

I had the SAME message when I picked up my cab in June. My radio would come on only for 10 seconds or so and then the message would pop up and everything would shut down. Mine started when I put a CD in the single CD slot and it wouldn't eject. I took it to the dealer and they ended up ordering an entirely new PCM unit and all is well after the transplant. Just make sure they don't switch it with an older version of the PCM that doesn't play the MP3.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

That happens when you put the wrong DVD in the Nav-Reader.
Make sure you use the DVD which came with the car from the
factory and not NAV-Tech in the US.
Now you Nav has to be re-set from the Porsche dealer with the service computer.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

Have not seen the message but you need to use the Nav DVD from the factory. Picked up my car on 7/22 and the dealer remarked how much better it was that the DVD was shipped with the car because it insured the correct software for the correct car.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

Thank you for all your replies.
The car is parked in enclosed garage, and the temperature is normal.
Yesterday the DVD arrived form Nav-Tech, according to the Porsche dealer this is normal procedure.
I suppose there is no quick fix for my problem, it will have to go back to factory service and get re-set or replaced.
    I'll keep you guys updated.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

Did you order your car? If it was aunit the dealer had had around for a while the NavTech disc may be teh correct one. If you ordered your car, then the dealer messed up by not providing you with the disc that should have come with the car from the factory. That message is consistant with a NavTech disc being loaded into a newer Nav unit.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

Welcome oneofew! Hope you get it fixed!

just thank the all mighty that the message did not read

"Cutoff P-nis Temperature Rising in pants" it does happen when you hear the p-car growl!

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

My car was ordered with navigation.
It is a 6/05 built car.
I assume it does have the new version of PCM.
This morning I called up the factory service, the rep was very nice, He promised that he needs to research more and get back to me with a resolution.
Soon after I got a call back, and explained that he needs to order a brand new NAV unit.
The part is out of stock, however he will have it expedited form Germany and will arrive on Aug 3rd.
I got to admit they are handling this situation allot better than Audi.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

I have the Nav option installed after the fact, and it does not come with a DVD. Ordered one from Nav Tech and to date have had no issues. I think the temp in the front truck got too high and the unit shut down. You may have to have the a/c somehow adapted to cool the trunk using the part number described above by wtsnet. If your car was ordered with Nav option the DVD should already be in car or sent to your home . I did provide my dealer with all the parts including the DVD prior to installation as it has to be programed first before it will operate properly.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

You have the wrong Nav DVD in your car. You need version 04.2005. If that is the version you have in your car and if it still acts up like that, your DVD drive needs to be replaced.
I had a similar issue with a car that I delivered to a customer of mine. Call me at 610-886-1000 if you have questions. I work at Brandywine Porsche in PA.
    Ask for Erik in sales.

Re: Anyone seen one of these messages before?

    Erik,

    Thank you for your advice.
Next week on Aug 4th the dealer will change the navigation system.
I am pretty confident that should take car of my problem
I hope no one else faces this annoying problem, however if anyone comes across this situation I found a temporary resolution to keep the entire PCM form shutting down. Your Audio and phone may still work
NAV DVD has to be ejected
Turn on MAIN within 10 sec the PCM will turn off on its own.
Once more Power it back up, quickly go to NAV, PCM monitor will show the disclaimer, accept it, and should ask to insert navigation DVD, at this point need to hit the SET button and form the menu re-set the factory setting. Somehow this stops PCM form shutting down.
At least you can listen the radio or play your cds

    That'll be any fix then.
Your dealer will just have top fit an old PCM on 4th August which'll be campatible with your DVD.

Following Disclaimer is official on the Porsche 911 Accessories (Navigation module) website:
