    Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

I have sport seats (non-adaptive and non-electric) fitted in my car and when I flip the seats forward, the headrest hits the sun visors? I have to lower the seats in order to avoid hitting the sun visors. Has anyone noticed the same problem?

Another observation is the material used for the front and rear bumbers. I was washing my car the other day and found them VERY soft! You can actually create a dent without much effort with your index finger..... very unlike my previous car (993)

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

Front and rear bumpers are made of plastic materials, like all bumpers on modern cars.

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

I've noticed the seat problem. Only just hits in my case, wouldn't be a problem for taller drivers!!

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

Steering wheel. Although I have not taken delivery of mine (yet), I have not found 1 that I like. About the only one I have not tried is the chunckier sports steering wheel, and of course this one is a)ugly due to the airbag b)no buttons on it. BMW does this well!

    JAG

    ANOTHER SEAT ISSUE IS

I have the regular sport seats and when I grab my seat belt to put it on about 90% of the time the actual buckle get's hung up on the little 'wing' on the top of the sport seat. There are already marks on the door and the seat beccause there isn't enough rooom to pull the seatbelt buckle through.....

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

Bumper is probably the "latest" material produced to provide the most minor damage resistance. Just a guess.

I mean how are we supposed to deal with all these crappy bumpers these days. One bump and we've got at least scratch. Maybe they've been figuring that issue out?

The Seat problem design flaw you observe is "nothing." Did you know on the 986 (pre 2005 Boxster) you can smash your head on the roll bar in an accident if you adjust the seat "wrongly."

    CRAZY!!!!

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

I have to agree with MMD. The bumper now a days are too weak. I own a Cayenne and one day, i backed up into a pole down in Ihop and found an amazing dent in the back and it cost me over 1000 US to repair. Not to mention that i didn't even step on the gas when this happen. On the other hand, BMW does a much better job than porsche in this case, I had driven a friend's X5 and had backed up into a pole (YES !!! AGAIN~! ) and it suprised me that it the bumper is perfectly fine!
I don't know exactly why Porsche manufacture these bumper this way but maybe it is a way to lose weight for the car, just a guess.

thanks goodness my cayenne is coming with the reversing camera sounds like you should get it too!

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

The bumper designs must match the latest EU directives for pedestrian safety. The permissible damage to a pedestrian during an impact is becoming less and less each year - hence the design revisions.

A friend of mine who works for BMW in Munich was telling me that they're now looking at active body panels which move/retract during an impact to minimise damage to anyone unfortunate enough to have got in the way. The panels move when an impact is detected.

It seems that the bumpers are no longer there solely to protect the car.

BINGO! Thanks for the post Gaz.

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

My car was delivered with a a slight dent on the rear bumper Discovered it only 2 weeks after delivery. Therefore must live with it or buy a new bumper. By the way: Look at the front bumpers. They are dented at each car in the area between headlights and front hood. Could not believe it - but my sales man showed me the brand new cars - they were all dented. Easy to see when dark color but also to see when car is silver etc.

Maybe your local DentWizard (paintless dent repair) can remove it. You know they can remove dents and dings in doors and such... . $40 or $50 and most dents/dings are gone. check it out.

I don't think they can remove dents in the plastic bumpers.

Yes, that's right. I noticed that on my cobalt blue 997S, too. Oddly enough, I didn't notice it at delivery. Although I spent a long time there checking the paint of the car. Now that I have a clear bra installed it's no longer visible I guess that the hardly visible dent in the plastic bumber is right at the place where the bumper is connected to the chassis. Because actually there are two dents that are symmetrically arranged to the left and right of the bumper. But that's pure speculation of me not having a clue how a bumper is installed

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S

Unfortunately they cannot remove any dents out of plastics...

Re: Observation (design flaw??) on 997S
