    Stalling in traffic

I reckon this is just me getting used to electronic throttle, but have stalled car in traffic when moving from a standstill at least a dozen times, embarrasing, just different way of throttle & clutch I guess? = a bit more throttle blip, once moving even slightly (2/4kms) when clutch just engages revs go up automatically & smoothly moves on using accelerator. Not as seamless as other cars.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

You are not the only one....

    Re: Stalling in traffic

I stall it when trying to reverse slowly.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

Glad to hear it's not just me. I've been driving manuals all my life but find this clutch is taking a lot of getting used to. My first drive too was through San Francisco (major hills) Imagine how embarassing that was, and the top down to boot!!!

    Re: Stalling in traffic

yea, really embarrasing bad enough all the looks I am already getting. Realized I did not want to blip throtttle to much and sound like a boy racer but now don't think their is an alternative except to stay out of town. Lol, wil get used to it, things we have to put with

    Re: Stalling in traffic

Blame it on the engine still bedding in.
I stalled it in traffic a few times in the first 1000 miles, particularly on hill-starts. I think it's a bit 50/50 between that, and getting used to the car. I found I didn't want to over-rev when pulling away (people would stare) and the result was often that the car stalled. The embarrassing thing is that it won't start again immediately. Takes about 10-15 seconds before the electronic ignition even wants to turn the engine again. Doh!

Incidentally, I once stalled it at a busy roundabout, trying to pull away too promptly. On restarting, the management system flashed an oil temp warning 'Stop immediately!'- the needle on was minimum. I reasoned that it was a glitch, and took it easy for 1/2 mile, whereupon the needle suddenly jumped back to the 'normal' position and the error cleared. Phew! Hasn't happend since.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

I discoved that when it stalls, quickly switch off, pull the key out then in again & start otherwise as you say you have to wait about 15 secs.

Aaaah. I'll try that...if I manage to stall again! The engine now 'complains' rather than quickly dying - I guess now that it's got a few miles under it's belt.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

Yep, poor us, gives me another excuse to drive around aimlessly....I need the practice!
Where in Ireland are you, I'm from Dublin.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

I stall it occasionally when driving with the sports chrono active, mostly in city traffic and heat.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

I do the same in my 986. Needs a lot of revs when you start. Sounds like an old man taking off in a Skoda.
Clutchpoint is still hard to find after 8 months of ownership.
Guess I really need to take that drivers license someday

    Re: Stalling in traffic

    way to go tiptronic!

    Re: Stalling in traffic

Did it when I first picked it up!! And the other day....

    Re: Stalling in traffic

Amazing, must have got used to it, managed to drive twice through Dublin rushour toady without stalling once, was going to see if sport setting made any difference. Based in Galway but used to live in Dublin 20 years ago now.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

The flywheel and pressure plate are just bedding in ...the stalling will disapear in time

    Re: Stalling in traffic

I am not looking forward to stalling in Midtown Manhattan --- the cabs may come by and just ram me over...<fingers crossed>

Mine has 80,000 km on the clock.
    When will it stop stalling..?

    Re: Stalling in traffic

This doesn't have to do anything with the electronic throttle, you just have to get used to the "Porsche" clutch. Many drivers have problems with the Porsche "style" setup of the clutch on the 911, Boxster and even the Carrera GT.
It takes some time but you get used to it.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

Never stall. The wife does tho but she can't drive a stick.

    Re: Stalling in traffic

At least you guys don't also have to get used to making a graceful exit in 4" heels and short skirt LOL.

No... I can't drive in heels!

    Re: Stalling in traffic

Hey, at least we're in good company, look at Fisichella on the last two races!

I got laughed at yesterday when the guys washing my car opened the trunk for cleaning and discovered my high heels in there. Can't help it.. need driving shoes for the Boxey. A colleague of mine has a 987S as well and she always drives barefoot.

Short skirts are no problem as long as they're elastic. If they're not, you better have someone bringing you food to the car because you ain't going nowhere once seated.

    Drive thru anyone?

Hey, you know someone else with a 987S? I'm assuming they're not in this country, as surely you would press-gang them to attend our little meet!?!

And all this talk of short skirts has put me right off work this afternoon. Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

Thats it exactly, was about to post, it is all about clutch, brought up not to abuse clutch (IE let out quickly) but with my baby it is all about feeling the clutch engage without blipping (boy racing) got it down to a fine art now now in all traffic, no stalls. Will post my first 1000K impreeions later with some pics. AMAZING CAR!

Honestly, I tried.. to no avail. She's one of those "always busy" folks.

Ok, I'll bite. How is one supposed to treat the Porsche clutch?

Take it out for some good food, fine wine, complement it, and buy it flowers occasionally.
